35X14.5 LT16 Super Swamper Bogger's on a stock F250 Super Duty?


Yes I finally caught a break on some new shoes for this big ole' girl. The Toyo AT 295/75/R16's had lost a good tire in our little "Mudding Mishap", and the back two were as bald as can be.

I figure with less than a 20 mile per week commute I would try on some bigger meats. The price was more than fair, the wear bars long since gone on my old Toyo's I sprung for some used 35X14.5 LT16 Super Swamper Boggers and installed them on my factory rims. Amazing that this huge tire only requires 30 lbs of pressure, then again its mostly an off road tire and that was the look that I was going for.

The guy who sold me them had a gasoline F150 with a 4 inch lift. Amazing how much 4 inches in when you see it in the flesh. Despite my worries about the sheer size of these monster tires I fell in love with the aggressive tread pattern. I must admit this is my very FIRST set of true "Mud Tires", and I just said "Fuck it".

To my surprise, with a little effort the tires mounted onto the 16X7 inch factory 8 hole aluminum rim. I started with the fronts and I was almost sure they werent going to clear, however they bolted up with no interference to the rotor or suspension, even the brake/ABS/Vacuum Hub lines cleared with nothing more than a zip tie "Just to be sure". I did notice there was slight interference under very hard turn with the bottom of the plastic wheel well. Id say that I have lost a 1/4 turn until such time as I lift it. The contact is only with the plastic wheel housing; however its important to remember many connections and such are mounted to the wheel well on the drivers side.

Rears went on with no problems as I suspected, but boy was I ever happy with the looks. While I dont off road much (Yet) I wanted that look. They are noisy as all hell on the road +40 MPH however the big diesel seems to manage them well and the sound makes me feel like I am driving a prop plane.

On the advice of the guy whom was nice enough to bless us with these tires I have decided that it needs to raise 4-6 inches in the front and 2-4 inches in the back. Guess the trick to making them look monster is leveling them out. most Fords sit higher in the back and lower in the front, in stock trim.

I am thinking about starting with a 4 inch lift in the front and a two inch lift in the back.
Anyone know of any links to the spacers and u-bolts for the leaf springs? I also wonder about suspension geometry however that can be adjusted, just how much work that will play out to be is another question.

I think maybe an 11-12 inch tire would clear no problems on the F250 Super Duty, however reaching into the realm of the 14.5 there is defiantly some lifting that needs to be done.

Just in case I needed to replace them, what do you think these tires would cost new? What do you think the tires were worth used as I purchased them? I am posting photos so you tell me.

Road noise isnt really too bad at all. Vibrations are not much of an issue with this truck because of the weight. I dont drive a lot of miles, and really the truck never gets warm before I am back home. Kinda sucks being a diesel and all, but hey.

I am willing to bet PowerStrokers POS would likley rattle your teeth out on all terrain tires. With all the money I save on dental insurance I can buy fancy tires.

Too bad you guys will never guess how much I paid for them. Lets just say it was a deal I could not pass up.

You should probably order a CHRA and Unison ring for that now, so you'll have it in stock when the turbo takes a poop.

 

You gotta get them hot or the turbo goes for a poop. Same with the EGR valve. Latest calibration helps with that somewhat, however it will still jam up the EGR as well as carbon the hell out of the VGT business in the turbo.

 

Condensation is a killer too (short trips).

 

You don't stop for coffee in the morning? Let it run and get hot!

 

Can you get a Bogger in a radial now? Or are you using the bias-ply's? Did you powder balance them?

Naw I dont stop for coffee in the morning because the shop is less than 1/4 mile from my house. It would actually be out of the way to stop for coffee, if I drank coffee. No for me its Cherry Coke, thats my crutch.

Every since I got into this new house I been doing a lot of these big nasty jobs here. Keeps the gravy flowing at the shop since I dont have major shit tie'n up the lifts.

The boggers are still Bias-Ply's, however I am not hauling any serious weight and I dont do much highway if any at all.

I thought about sand balancing them, however they are somewhat just for looks, like the rest of the truck considering how little I drive.

In the winter months I do let it sit for 10-15 mins prior to driving, but during the summer I have been guilty of just jumping in, starting it and going on my way.

I am pretty sure I am getting some build up of carbon, and really I would love to dig into the truck but the current work load keeps that somewhat of a pipe dream. I must admit that since taking the hit on the repairs for this truck, having to get a loan, and then this new place I got, its not looking good. I spent a lot of money to get this beast back in action, and the money I borrowed just paid off the bills in doing so. Right now I am behind on about 3 engines, and to be quite honest, if I died today, they would have to roll me in 6 months later! Its that bad.

FYI - I got all 4 of them tires for $125 the day before the 4th of July. I think I did rather well and I thanked the guy for letting me have them. Here is a most recent shot of my truck in the parking lot at the shop.

Hey thanks alot BAH, it means more to me than you know.

I should also add that they work AWSOME too! I got into some shit tonight that I swear I thought I would never ger out of, and some how these tires made all the diffrence in the world.

Im still grinning from ear to ear.
