2007 Pontiac G6 GTP Shifter Stuck, Sticking, Hard to get out of park.

I ran into my first 2007 Pontiac G6 today. Darn thing had 90,000 miles on it! Some people can really tack on the miles.

Anyway I was suprised to see that a two year old vehicle already had its shifter cable go south. I had to remove the center console to replace it, however they are putting consoles together diffrently now days. I even had to (gasp) open the online book to ensure nothing was damaged. Only tricky part is the PRNDL where two clips hold it onto the console. You must lift the console up to see them. Also the e-brake boot just unclips and rolls off.

Not a bad job, but it might prove hard on the body for "Older" mechanics. LOL

All things considering I think they did a great job with the interior. Lots of room with the new design. I only hope the chrome on the instruments does not start flake'n 6 years from now.

My only bitch about the GTP model is that it does not have a supercharger like most all other GTP Pontiacs of the 90's and 2000's.

Today I took a close look at the cable to see where the problem was.

Seems the main problem was with the little tag that said "Made In Mexico". Apparently our Mexican friends crimped the clamp (that holds the firewall boot) too tight on the cable. Thus creating a condition that cause premature failer.

I did however notice that final assembily of the vehicle was near flawless. I guess thats because the door sticker on the pillar said "Final Assy. In Michigan USA".

Only problem was the new cable had the same little tag, and thus may have the same problem.
