Wire Harness woes F250 6.0 PowerStroke.

Got a good guy I been working with who is being told his wire harness is bad on his F250 Diesel PowerStroke 6.0.

The production date of the truck is 7/03. I have a unit from one produced in 5/03 but he is claiming that our harness has one more plug, and no provisions for the fuel heater.

The guy is really cool, I mean cowboy cool, so I want to ask if there are substantial harness diffrences between month 5 and month 7 with regards to the 6.0 diesel. Did they relocate the ICP or ICPR in the 7th month? Delete the feature for the fuel heater?

The powertrain harness number is 1843796 C92 and it is an International branded item. He claimed at the time that as long as the C92 matched it was the same, but he prolly read that somewhere on PowerStroke.org, so we can't fault him for that.

I may also be able to get the numbers from his harness if that is needed. He claims the last 3 of C92 match.

I'd like to see him get his issues resolved. He claimed to be driving down the road and all of a sudden it quit. Since then he has installed a new FICM, 3 injectors and several other things. All of this suggested by the dealer, who is now telling him it must be the harness. Had he lived closer I would have just went on down there and checked it out for myself, but as it stands I am tied up here and really can not leave.

Whadua think?

Main engine harness or injector harness???  Neither one has the plug for the fuel heater anyway... That one is on the frame harness (in Ford Super Duty applications), but the fuel heater was deleted sometime in 04 and on all replacement fuel pumps anyway, so I wouldn't worry about that.
To my knowledge the wiring harnesses changed 9/29/03 when they re-located the icp and went to a functional throttle plate instead of the empty housing to improve egr flow.

ICP was relocated to the right valve cover for the 04.25 engines starting with build date 9/29/03

That is an International Navistar part number and means nothing to me.  Unfortunately they didn't tag them with the Ford part number, but according to my notes, it appears the early build 6.0's all used the same harness...  In Ford applications anyway, The VT365 version used in International trucks may be a different story.  If you post a picture of the 2 harnesses and show me which connector is extra, I may be able to identify what it's supposed to plug in to.

I have seen harnesses cause this condition, I have also seen other things cause this condition.  I'm leary of a dealer who would sell him 3 injectors to resolve an intermittant sudden stalling concern.  I think he needs to try another dealership.

The harness we are talking about is the engine harness.

Thats one thing I hate about getting second hand information. I wished I could see it for myself but as it stands it's out of my hands.

Thanks for the insight PowerStroker. Pehaps he installed the injector harness and found that to fix the problem. Either way I am sure to hear something.

Thanks again, ill keep you posted.

There is a jumper harness that keeps codes from setting for the fuel heater.
