National News

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - Two teenagers were arrested after attempting to carjack two vehicles in the Green Hills area Tuesday evening.

The suspects, ages 15 and 17, first tried to steal the car of a woman parked in the Hill Center parking garage on Hillsboro Pike around 6:20 p.m.

Metro police reported they ran up to her vehicle, one on each side, opened the doors and yelled for her to get out.

They then tried to pull her out of the car, but she screamed and held down her car horn, causing them to run off.

The victim sustained minor injuries in the struggle but did not need to be taken to a hospital.

An hour later, the teens approached a woman walking to her car in the Kroger parking lot on 21st Avenue South.

They grabbed her keys out of her hand, jumped in her vehicle but ran away after they were unable to drive a manual transmission, according to Metro police.

A short time later, officers spotted the teens in the area and took them into custody.

They were each charged in juvenile court with attempted robbery/carjacking, theft and attempted theft of a vehicle.

I'm going to have to buy a manual vehicle to make the kids learn how to drive them... My oldest can move them around in the yard but hasn't been turned loose in one on the streets yet.

Figure I'll start them out on something easy like a Semi, or 70's GMC/Chevy pickup 4X4 manual - LOL!

Manuals are a lot of fun and make for a spirited drive dipping into the power band as needed but in my old age I don't miss them when stuck in traffic.

I learned on manuals, more fun. That C4 an auto? My C5 the 6 speed manual. I would like to try one of the new ones with the paddle shifter though.

Yes I enjoy the C4 in auto trim, although all the 1996 models with a manual came with the LT4 engine rated at 330 HP which is some 30 more horsepower than the factory rating on the automatics. Still I enjoy the automatic as I do drive it quite long distances and to events that cause me to be in stop and go traffic. I don't enjoy driving a manual in traffic, sure it's cool when you're under 30 but from an enjoyment perspective I enjoy it more not having to shift while getting road head.

That being said, I am completely happy with the C4 and have no intentions on upgrading to a newer model as it's the one for me. I do however look forward to modifications that could see horsepower well over the new models of even today! Having to wait in line though, as I have another C3 that we are working with that also uses the G2 LT1/LT4 engine. For me, I like cast iron for the block since I love nitrous oxide, the newer engines and their aluminum construction just adds a level of expense that I just do not wish to spend - both in terms of machine shop cost and even the parts themselves. That's not to say they aren't better, they most certainly are more advanced! Just call me old fashioned, the C4 still captivates me.

I still enjoy the shifting. Got 405hp in the LS6. I'd be at a loss on a race though, just sit and spin 1st and 2nd!
