Ford 6.0 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel Fuel Filter Regulator Kit - Secondary fuel bowl

This thread is to address the fuel regulator overhaul kit sold by Ford Motor Company for the 6.0 Liter Powerstroke Turbo Diesel truck.

When purchased from Ford this kit is really a re-badged International kit. The part number for this kit is as followed

International - "SERV KIT FUEL FILTER REG VALVE" # 1843065C95

Maybe some of the Powerstroke Mafia will chime in with the Ford part number as it seems to have escaped me.

This kit contains many small parts, o-rings, and is somewhat easy to do. Along with being gummed up real bad, the o-rings were very worn.

This regulator is not to be confused with the IPR (Injector Pressure Regulator) as the local self proclaimed pros would call it.

Well Rex, as a local self-proclaimed 6.0 Guru, I'll tell you that the Ford number you're looking for is 9T517...  That is the base number the Ford counterman will need.  There are a couple different ones identified by various prefix and suffix codes, but the Parts man can look that up by your specific application.

Note: This component will never cause a P2285 code to set

Somehow I think the number that was on this box was diffrent than the one you have given, however I dont consider myself a Guru so there may be some truth to what he is saying.

Usually this item will need to be serviced in instances of fuel contamination. Important to note that the seals we removed from a vehicle just 100K young were brittle and worn Esp. the small one that sits inside the brass colored plunger/valve.

Very good Powerstroker!

Now we are going to have to teach you the art of cropping and shrinking.

Would you be so kind Rex as to tell us why exactly you replaced this part.  Did you test fuel pressure and find it low?  How did you isolate this part as the source of your problem.  Maybe you could teach me something.  What was your fuel pressure before and after replacing it?

A long time ago in a land far, far away it was explained.

Somebody found out there were two "fuel pressure regulators" - someone on a public internet forum told this somebaody that he'd had a "fuel pressure regulator" replaced on his truck and that "fixed" it.

With the word "fixed" grasped tightly in his hot little hand, this somebody didn't bother with anything as mundane as acceptable diagnostic practices, nor did he refer to an accepted set of documents, nor did he decide that he should know how something works before he tries to "fix" it.....

With the word "fixed" firmly in his grasp, he found that one "fuel pressure regulator" was much cheaper than the other.... Human nature being what it is..... the cheap "fuel pressure regulator" was installed....

Not too long after this little fiasco, someone announced to the world that he didn't understand this high oil pressure crap but the gauge on the dash read about 3/4ers.

The really sad part about all of this is that most of the information required is contained in the "coffee table books" that are so freely accessible on the world wide web.... And let us not even consider that a professionally run shop should ever waste money on factory service publications.

Sadly, the thread that bears evidence to this was pulled from Powerstroke.org...

However, the legend lives on in that the powerstroke mafia has earned it's name from this peccadillo.

Maybe you could tell us more about that thread because it no longer exists.

I can tell you why it no longer exists. It was pulled off powerstroke.org because some sharp-eyed reader had the patience to read through the four pages of posts, and posted a reply with the simple question of, "I'd be interested in knowing how a truck brought in for repair ends up totalling $12,000". THAT thread caught MY attention, at which point I posted a thread here: http://autotrend.activeboard.com/index.spark?forumID=91042&p=3&topicID=25158835

Shortly after that, was when the original thread was removed from powerstroke.org.

I think its quite clear why the thread never got finished.

~BANNED~

A lot of people including myself lost out on some good photos. After that I just quit documenting it. It wasnt until I realized there was 4000+ hits that I decided to start picking back up with the photos. How the hell could we contenue the thread? We didnt even have a PSD forum here back then!

It was that thread on PS.ORG that sparked this forum.

SELLC,

I realize I am reviving a very old thread, but in your last picture, the secondary fuel bowl has a black, plastic insert that interfaces with the poppet in the fuel pressure regulator.  I have encircled it in red, below.

Secondary Fuel Bowl (Needs Insert) Unknown Year.jpg

I am trying to locate a secondary fuel bowl like the one above - the one that needs the black, plastic insert.  What model/year is it found in?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Evidently, there are some models/years that do not require this black insert because the secondary fuel bowl has that feature already cast into it, encircled in red, below.

Secondary Fuel Bowl Cutout (No Insert Needed).jpg

Another difference that I see is that the secondary fuel bowl in your last picture shows what looks like a cast-in structure underneath the white, plastic piece that serves as the air-bleed, boxed in red below.

Secondary Fuel Bowl (Structure Under White, Air-Bleed) Unknown Year.jpg

In the version for the model/years that do not require the black insert piece, it also looks like they do not have the cast-in structure under the air-bleed, area boxed in red below.

Secondary Fuel Bowl Cutout (No Structure Under White, Air-Bleed).jpg

Again, I am trying to locate the secondary fuel bowl that needs the black, plastic insert and looks like it has a cast-in structure underneath the white piece that serves as the air bleed.  What model/year is it found in?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow I used to be a real dick back in the day. It's as if I was hiding in the bushes just waiting for someone to step on their dick lol.

I agree though, It seems the earlier build 6.0's had the black plastic sleeve and they went away from it in the later ones I think around the 05 model year.

Either way - the latest and greatest Ford part number for that service kit is 3C3Z-9T517-AG and it contains the updated blue spring that has more tension to increase fuel pressure.

Injector failures are most often caused by low fuel pressure in these trucks btw, so if doing injectors, you will definitely want to do this too, with some new fuel filters.

LOL,

This is not true !!! It's just because Stoma has been banned, that you see yourself this way.

If only the administrators saw the light, & realized how dark this place has become without Stoma.

Stoma is the only person I know of that likes to hide in bushes, but instead of standing on their dicks, well, we know what Stoma does....

I formally want to report to the administrators, that the absence of Stoma is psychologically affecting other members here on this forum. And Mr.Trump will be notified of the Un-American way he's been treated. A shooting or hanging would have been minimum requirements under the new dictators policies.

Later,

Rastus

I'll be honest with you Rastus, this Stoma $hit is getting old and I'm tired of hearing about it.

You're welcome to start your own forum and invite Stoma or communicate with him via private email.

It wouldn't be the same though. Stoma isn't one who can reach his full potential in private emails. He needs a space to be creative for all to see. We should be honored that he has chosen this place to express himself.

Perhaps he will sign up with a very similar user name and continue a proud tradition?

I agree SELLC ! It's much better that we hear from Stoma ourselves.

I wouldn't know how to start up my own forum, & I wouldn't know what subject to name it.

PowerStroker summed it up perfectly, where just like a Public Toilet, or even the White House at the moment with its incumbent President,

qt." He needs a space to be creative for all to see...We should be honored that he has chosen this place to express himself "....

PowerStroker, we've thrown a lot of names out there already, & some are pretty good IMO.

Cheers,

Rastus

Needs a space to be creative for all to see eh?

May I suggest the Fukashima prefecture?

Everyone needs somewhere to pooh, & Stoma likes to pooh here !

The fact that he's sometimes creative is a bonus for us to enjoy. Such a unique perspective on matters...

Stoma is the classic result of the system that is the US-of-A.......There's so much to learn !!!
