US Patriot Act Renewed by slipping it into a Medicare Physician Act?

Well.... I have to give props when props are due....

McBear for ONCE I have finally been impressed with you.

Quote from McBear-

Besides the furthering of the act itself, the way it slipped through is what is troubling.
"The vote, incredibly enough titled the Medicare Physician Payment Reform Act, passed 315-97. The bill was so named because Senate Democrats inserted the Patriot Acts extension into a Medicare reform bill."
That has to stop.

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/off-topic/1503970-epic-fail-congress-us-patriot-act-2.html

---- End Quote ---

I was wondering how the hell this Patriot Act slipped thru once again, and I fear without McBears eye, I may have never known.

It sickens me to think what the hell these people have slipped into the over 2000+ page bill they call healthcare reform. I am truly sickend by this administration! I have always felt they were bad news and this just seals it for me.

Thank you McBear.

Yeah, I agree this sucks. As a liberal I have been agaist the "Patriot" act forever. As a matter of political strategy it was determined that it may be best to have it extended utill at least after the next election cycle so the Dems can't be accused of being "soft on terror." Problem is the only way to get a big eough chunk of the Dem caucus to vote for it was to merge it with something they actually want - like raising reimbursement rates for Doctors.

I'm holding my nose on this one too.

I never felt it was right from the start, however in the wake of 911 and us going to war I felt it was nessisary to root out all the terrorist we had obviously let into the country. I kind of thought it would have been laid to rest after the mission in Iraq was complete (Catching Saddam).

They used the underwear/Detroit bomber as an excuse to extend the act, however I find that stupid considering the fact the act was in place when that attack took place. It obviously didnt help foil the attack on Detroit and I feel with the Democrats slipping the Patriot act into the Medicare Physician act it is proof they can not be trusted with such powers.

Can anyone say DITRY CHICAGO POLITICS?

What is next? Tax increases slipped into a bill to lower taxes?

This does not bode well for the Obama Administration.

I bet whoever said that ^^^ would be the first one to criticize the dems for being "soft on terror" if they had let the patriot act expire.

What does being soft on terror have anything to do with the deception that has played out here? I mean this kind of thing is beyond excusable. It should be chalked up as FRAUD!

What kind of message does this send to people? Lets forget for a moment the partisanship, lets look at how these people are doing business. It would be one thing if it was an error, but this was an outright deception.

The Democrats have a serious problem, and why the mainstream media is not giving this the proper attention it deserves is questionable! The media has all but backed off Washington in the past month, I wonder what kind of deal they were cut to do so?

I think Senate Democrats should be tried in a court of law to determine weather or not they are fit to fill their possition. What is Obama doing about this? Absolutly NOTHING! It's almost like he wants America to fail, and early on this is exactly what people were saying of him. Obama will not engage! He just sits there aimlessly acting like he hasnt a clue.

If Obama cant keep his own Administration on the straight and narrow then this whole country is fucked. Take for example this new stuff about Emanuel warning Obama about the many failures that have cost the Democrats.

I honestly am starting to think that Obama could really give a shit about anything. I feel he is stalling in an effort to give a good show for his next campaign. God forbid he get MORE done than he promised!

Obama isn't the one who is running for re-election this year. This is the brainchild of Congressional dems. Obama will probably sign it in to law because he wants the Medicare reimbursement rate to increase for doctors, so he too, will be holding his nose on this deal.

Dems have to worry about re-election just like the Republicans do, and historically anything the Republicans can use to paint the Dems as soft on terror has been used for political gain. The Dems are savy to this fact, and are circumventing the problem... this election cycle anyways. Unfortunately the electorate has been dumbed down enough for these things to be necessary.

If you can convince all of your Republican buddies not to accuse Dems of being soft on terror, then the Dems can spend less time trying to get re-elected, and more time changing Bush era bad policies.

Sorry PowerStroker, I am not a mouth-peice for anyone. Unlike other forums I dont ban and censor people for having an opinion, I just say how I feel and others can choose how they would like to feel.

I asked to put partisanship aside, however you cant seem to do that. It's proof that your head isnt in the right place.

I will say this... You "think" you have this all figured out but I am sure the Republicans cant wait until Obama signs it. It may be the underlying reason everyone is holding off on making a big stink about it because once he does sign it, he's no better than the people whom put it on his desk.

If Obama is holding his nose it's because his administration and party stinks.

Yup, I bet the Republicans can't wait to criticize him for extending Republican policies.

It wouldn't surpise me in the least.

Get a clue Scrot! It's not the Patriot Act that bothers me... It's the way they passed it. Total bullshit. Total deception.

If they wanted to extend the Patriot Act they should have went about it in a way that wasnt underhanded.

This Administrations time in power is going to be short lived. No one is moved by Obama's bullshit anymore. The entire nation is holding their nose for the next two and a half years. It's going to be AWSOME watching Obama get ripped to schreads when he tries to run for re-election. He wont be able to hide from all of these issues when that time comes for re-election. People are keeping track.

When Obama was first elected you couldnt shut him up. If you had a TV camera his face was in it.... NOW LOOK AT HIM! Complete reversal. He avoids the press!

Wonder what is in the healthcare bill that we don't know about? Oh that's right! We have to pass it to see it!

I am pretty sure it must be a WHOLE LOT WORSE THAN THAT if they are asking Americans to "Trust them" and asking to pass the bill before we can see whats in it! Lest we forget that they want to pass this bill without any accountability, meaning no one wants to go down as a supporter of this soon to be bait and switch deal. Funny part is, I have yet to see anything that looks like bait. Like going fishing with a wormless hook!

Yes but we both know what's in it is kick backs and a bunch of stuff that is going to be changed. I will take an extensive look at this link and report back, however if the bill was so great then why are they trying to ram it thru? Seems like they want to limit the accountability to me.

Let's also talk about the bill that was passed on Christmas eve, likley when many were filled with christmas cheer aka egg nog, and the ones with family's just wanted to get out of there to go home and put out the presents. I am willing to bet the Nay's were just tired of having their arms twisted and didnt want to be there on Chirstmas morning, so they just said screw it, let the house shoot it down. That's likley what happend. Furthermore to call a vote on such a big issue as this on Christmas eve is just like the Democrats sneeky underhanded tactics they are famous for.

Sunday night is the big night. We will see.
