Poor PowerStroker

I was reduced to Gasoline engine work recently.  Here are some pics of a 2005 5.4 3v Lincoln Navigator short block replacement I had to do.  It had over 100K on it, but Ford paid for it because it was the result of a stuck open injector which hydro locked cylinder 7 and caused it to throw a rod through the block.  Those injectors that year were a known problem so Ford has an extended coverage program for them and any related damage.  The body removal was more involved than the Diesel trucks I'm used to, but I'd do it again this way anyway because trying to work on this engine with the body on would really suck, enjoy the pictures.

That #7 piston is loose in the cylinder as the connecting rod completely broke.  The piston is washed from the raw fuel coming through that stuck injector.  There are marks in the top of the piston where it kissed the valves, but inspection and leakage test found no damage to the cylinder head so it was reused.

Notice the lack of Rolock scratches on the deck surface of a Ford reman engine.
FQR stands for Ford QUALITY Reman!!!

There are a lot of ways to screw yourself when setting up the timing components in this engine, but this one turned out great.

PowerStroker are you bragging because you can install a remaufactured short block? LOL Or are you bragging because you can unbolt a cab from the frame?

I wish I had it so easy as to just have to install the engines, however I go a little further than you in that I actually REBUILD THEM.

BEFORE

AFTER

While I think it's great you are sharing, I cant help but to feel like you are trying to imply something.

PowerStroker, do you need any help trying to figure out who the best Mechanic is?

I am not impressed with that engine, its a POS 5.4 Triton engine. As a matter of a fact FORD's STOLE the design from Mercedes whom had this set up back in the early 80's!

You think that single row timing chain is a big deal!? LOL Try setting it up on the original design that Ford copied where its a DUAL ROW double roller!

You are such a little baby PowerStroker!

Geez, I just try to participate on this site with a little show and tell and apparently I offended someone.

Sorry Rex.

You know, it doesn't appear that any of your engines have variable cam timing.  You must work on some really old stuff.

Oh come on PowerStroker, I seen your snide comment about Roloc disc's.

I dont think VCT is a very hard to work with. I have shown you older engines so you could understand this sort of thing has been around for much longer than you think. Hell from 1992-up this stuff was present on MB engines. Even in 1986 they had the DOHC V8 engines, however you have missed one point.... These engines I have shown you have aluminum blocks and heads.

I understand you have no appreaciation for these things, and thats why you dont fully understand things half the time. Be that as it may, I seriously doubt you could make repairs on these older engines you claim are "Really old stuff".

Modern day componets are MUCH easier to work with, you're engine above has two timing chains, EASY STUFF. The ones I have use a SINGLE chain and there are procedures for replacing it that can make folks like yourself CRY.

I have never been a big fan of the Triton engines, or the Modular engines that were the platforms for it.

I understand you are contributing, and there are few that can do what we do. Dont feel like I am trying to beat you up in giving you a lesson of my own. Were here to exchange ideas, learn new things and above all else, have a good time. Mechanics have thick skin, otherwise we bleed. Sometimes the jobs demand a little blood, but we dont give up... Well at least I dont.

I knew that Ford had to have paid for this repair before I even bothered to read what you had written. If this was customer pay the guy would have been in the background wearing nothing more than a barrel. Still it's very admerable that Ford's took it on the chin. Not only that, it must have paid pretty well. Did you beat book time or did you lose your ass a little?

If you are doing so great PowerStroker then why do you use Free Image Hosting.net to host your photos?

I am willing to bet you were on that job all week. Your not the kind of person whom would be honest about such things as losing your ass on a job.

Also another question, in one of them photos it appears that one of the drawers on your tool box is open. Appears to be all of about 5 pairs of pliars in there. I cant even see the bottom of ANY of my pliar drawers, and I have 4 drawers full. Channel Locks, Vice grips, Needle nose long-short-curved, and then my snap ring pliar drawer which also holds my all my dikes.

The price was right, who do you use?

No really , I broke even on it.  Dishonest would be if I said I had it done in a day.  Keep in mind I do this type of work frequently, just on different powertrains.  If it were a 6.0 Diesel I would probably have about a 9 hour profit out of the deal.

I have more than 5 pliers Rex, a lot of my tools were in my cart that day.  After that job was done I had a ton of tools to put away, but luckily I didn't lose any in the process.

And here we have dumba$$...

Stoma that shop is not PowerStrokers! He's just the dealer donkey. When they got a big load to haul, PowerStroker is their man. I never claimed PowerStroker didnt know what he was doing. I have only stated that he is limited in his ability to fix anything but a Ford truck, even then I catch him tripping on his ego every now and again.

Stoma, first you need to OWN A CAR before you can talk about fixing one.

The bus pass doesnt count, and neither does your mom's car.

What Stoma fails to realize is the fact that he offers NOTHING to this forum. He does not know his ass from a hole in the ground. He is so jealous he doesnt even realize what an idiot he sounds like. Stoma hasnt a clue about cars and the only thing he knows how to do is talk trash on a web forum about people that do.

I can see Stoma losing a few more post by the time this week is over.

Whoever it is is correct. It did occupy one of my stalls for over a week. Most of that time was spent torn-down waiting for warranty approval to repair and for the new short block to show up. I worked out of my other 2 stalls meanwhile. I stand by my statement that I had approx 20 working hours invested in it.

I can now see why PowerStroker has 3 stalls in his dealership!

It's because he is full of $hit!

LOL!

A free steak dinner to whomever that was that BROKE the news! Thank you!

Very funny! Diesel and tranny guys get multiple stalls because the nature of our work leaves us frequently with torn down vehicles on hold for one reason or another, be it parts or authorization to repair ect. It just doesn't make sense to be constantly reinstalling cradles or dropping bodies back on things temporarily so we can push something outside to free up a hoist.

Speaking of which... How long has your truck been on hold with the fenders and doors removed occupying space in your garage while you decide how you're going to
fix it?  Don't tell me it has made your entire business come to a screeching halt.

I'm well aware that good mechanics get multiple "Bays", esp. if they do major repairs. You used the term "stall" which I could not help making fun of. I understand these things can take time. You have to check it out, then you have to get authorization (which in this case with Ford paying the bill could have taken even longer), then you have to order parts, install parts, put back together and then test drive. Of course none of these factors seemed to matter when you guys were ragging on me about my non-pay customer. I esp. liked the diamond plate bathroom stalls, I felt it really added to the insult, given the HD status and all. LOL

With regards to my truck... Well this project is on hold as I am suing the bank that fucked me out of $10K when I took out the loan. I filed suit agenst them almost two weeks ago for $25K and I got a feeling they are either waiting until the last few days to respond, or I will get a default judgement in my favor.

You can read about it here-
 http://autotrend.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=91042&p=3&topicID=19208242

Of course that thread is in the V8 Cafe, so not everyone will get to read about the details. Needless to say I am holding off on doing ANYTHING else to the truck until such time as that matter is resolved. So yeah basiclly I got screwed for a little over $22K on that truck. Fixing it isnt the hold-up.

Wow, I've never heard of that happening. I'm pretty sure it could only happen to you Rex.

I'd sell all the parts off it and dump the bare frame in their parking lot with the vin plates attached. "Here's your collateral fuckers."

Except this time don't post parts on ebay until they are ready to ship or deal through Paypal. we wouldn't want a repeat of last time. I had to spank you pretty hard over that deal, but i did it out of love. It hurt me more than it hurt you.

It had nothing to do with pulling the unit! I had one ready to go off that other six liter I mentioned. It had EVERYTHING to do with PayPal getting involved.

The guy really thought I was going to shaft him or something. I mean for fucks sake I damn near gave it to him and he was going to bust my balls about a few days while I figured out which one I wanted to keep?

I don't sell on ebay anymore. It's been too much BS and they rip off the seller. 9 times out of 10 it is ebay/paypal that creates the problem with their greed.

With regards to the bank, all I can say is their preditory efforts have failed. They thought they had me over the barrel with title to my truck and more than half my loan proceedes. The only question I have for them now, after my little off-road adventure is "How ya like me now"!?

Why on earth would I need to make traffic?

I think you will find that most ALL computer systems have a seperate ADMINISTRATOR account. I could get into the MANY reasons why this is done, but it's WAY over your head.

I have 3 accounts on this forum, one of which I have retired, and one for Administration. I know for a fact you have more than one account here also. Isn't that right Grampy Jim? When this forum was first started I had an account for business, an account for Administration and one for personal. I have since limited myself to just two, one of which is used for forum Administration purposes only.

Once again you have been proven to be full of $hit.

Speaking of retiring, perhaps you are getting close to retirement age as well?

I get e-mails from the Smithsonian requesting we forward them your e-mail address. They mention something about your tools being placed on display in their museum. Where do you exchange your old broken Proto and Cornwell tools? Oh thats right, you dont work on vehicles anymore. Your a glorified service writer.

Well.... It might be  strange that my toolbox appears to be a tool crib of sorts. Do I have some old tools? Yup.. do puppies spend their money on things other than tools? Yup.... I purchase those tools that I need.... you probably reach for a pipe wrench.

Retire? I cant do that ... who would save the public from idiots like you that can't either buy a manual or read it if they did?

Full of shit? whatever floats your boat - I'm a "spoon fed" dealer tech. I know shit that you will either have to pay to learn..... or your customer will have to pay you to learn.

You amaze me... and this is not in a good way.

Pogo did you lose all your tools when you lost your business? Is that why you must rely on the dealerships tool crib? Do you even perform repairs anymore, or do you just run your mouth?

You should retire Pogo, you can't even save yourself, let alone others.

Any customer whom bring in their vehicle with a problem will require the tech to learn what is wrong prior to making the repair. For you to say you can fix a car without first inspecting it just shows how much of an idiot you can be.

Pogo you have forgotten most of what you thought you knew. You are now just a bitter old man trying to hang on. The only thing you spoon feed is $hit. You spoon feed it to the customers every day.
