WHEATLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. The FBI says the last of nine people charged with plotting to kill police has been apprehended after a search in rural Michigan.

Andrew Arena, head of the FBI's field office in Detroit, says Joshua Matthew Stone surrendered about 8 p.m. Monday at a home in Hillsdale County about 30 miles from the site of weekend raid.

Arena said Stone was in a house with five adults and a child. Arena says they all were there willingly and weren't being held hostage.

Stone was the only suspect not arrested in the raids. Federal prosecutors say the suspects are tied to the Michigan-based Christian militia group Hutaree.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

DETROIT (AP) Nine alleged members of a Christian militia group that was girding for battle with the Antichrist were charged Monday with plotting to kill a police officer and slaughter scores more by bombing the funeral all in hopes of touching off an uprising against the U.S. government.

Seven men and one woman believed to be part of the Michigan-based Hutaree were arrested over the weekend in raids in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, and another was still being sought.

FBI agents moved quickly against Hutaree because its members were planning an attack sometime in April, prosecutors said. Authorities seized guns in the raids but would not say whether they found any explosives.

The arrests have dealt "a severe blow to a dangerous organization that today stands accused of conspiring to levy war against the United States," Attorney General Eric Holder said.

Authorities said the arrests underscored the dangers of homegrown right-wing extremism of the sort seen in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people.

In an indictment unsealed Monday, prosecutors said the group began military-style training in the Michigan woods in 2008, learning how to shoot guns and make and set off bombs.

David Brian Stone, 44, of Clayton, Mich., and one of his sons were identified as the ringleaders of the group. Stone, who was known as "Captain Hutaree," organized the group in paramilitary fashion and members were assigned secret names, prosecutors said. Ranks ranged from "radoks" to "gunners," according to the group's Web site.

"It started out as a Christian thing," Stone's ex-wife, Donna Stone, told The Associated Press. "You go to church. You pray. You take care of your family. I think David started to take it a little too far."

Donna Stone said her ex-husband pulled her son into the movement. Another of Stone's sons also was charged and still was being sought.

FBI and police surrounded a rural area Monday about 30 miles from the site of raid in Michigan and were using a nearby church as a staging area, but wouldn't say whether their search was related to the weekend raids. Authorities arrived at Wheatland Church on Sunday night and were focusing on a trailer about a mile away, said Irene Wonders, wife of the church's pastor.

Prosecutors said David Stone had identified certain law enforcement officers near his home as potential targets. He and other members discussed setting off bombs at a police funeral, using a fake 911 call to lure an officer to his death, killing an officer after a traffic stop, or attacking the family of an officer, according to the indictment.

After such attacks, the group allegedly planned to retreat to "rally points" protected by trip-wired explosives for a violent standoff with the law.

"It is believed by the Hutaree that this engagement would then serve as a catalyst for a more widespread uprising against the government," the indictment said.

The charges against the eight include seditious conspiracy plotting to levy war against the U.S. possessing a firearm during a crime of violence, teaching the use of explosives, and attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction homemade bombs. The defendants were jailed, awaiting bail hearings Wednesday.

Hutaree says on its Web site its name means "Christian warrior" and describes the word as part of a secret language that few are privileged to know. The group quotes several Bible passages and declares: "We believe that one day, as prophecy says, there will be an Anti-Christ. ... Jesus wanted us to be ready to defend ourselves using the sword and stay alive using equipment."

The nature of the organization's alleged grudge against law enforcement and the government was unclear. The Web site does not list any specific grievances.

The site features a picture of 17 men in camouflage, all holding large guns, and includes videos of armed men running through the woods. Each wears a shoulder patch that bears a cross and two red spears.

David Cid, executive director of the Oklahoma City-based Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism, said there has been a resurgence in the past year or two of "domestic militancy" similar to what was seen before the Oklahoma City bombing.

"It's issues like eminent domain and immigration, and apparently national health care in some quarters," said Cid, a former FBI counterterrorism agent. "It's increasing these people's ire and their discomfort with their own government."

The wife of one of the defendants described Hutaree as a small group of patriotic, Christian buddies who were just doing survival training.

"It consisted of a dad and two of his sons and I think just a couple other close friends of theirs," said Kelly Sickles, who husband, Kristopher, was among those charged. "It was supposed to be a Christian group. Christ-like, right, so why would you think that's something wrong with that, right?"

Sickles said she came home Saturday night to find her house in Sandusky, Ohio, in disarray. Agents seized the guns her husband collected as a hobby and searched for bomb-making materials, she said, but added: "He doesn't even know how to make a bomb. We had no bomb material here."

She said she couldn't believe her 27-year-old husband could be involved in anything violent.

"It was just survival skills," she said. "That's what they were learning. And it's just patriotism. It's in our Constitution."

One of the defendants expressed anti-tax views during his Monday court hearing.

Thomas W. Piatek, a truck driver from Whiting, Ind., told a federal judge he could not afford an attorney because he was "getting raped on property taxes."

The mother of another defendant, 33-year-old Jacob Ward, told police in Huron, Ohio, last summer that family members took away his two guns an AK-47 rifle and a semiautomatic pistol because she thought he needed mental health treatment.

Ward told police that he needed to protect himself from members of a crime family that was keeping him from his girlfried, according to Huron police records obtained by the AP. He also said he was going to meet with the CIA.

Seven of the defendants in court in Michigan asked to be represented by public defenders. The eighth had a public defender appointed in Indiana.

Patriot Act! I love it! - Alec Baldwin

No I did not know anyone from that article above. I also find it repugnant that they would target a police funeral for a bombing. Why were they targeting Police? That's what I want to know.

I guess now days you can't be talking no shit about the police if you are a Christian. No you have to be a black man in Los Angeles to get away with talk about cop killing.

If they have the proof these people were going to conduct such things then they will have to pay. If this turns out to be trumped up charges then I am sure little will ever be heard, or the defendants will be under a gag order. These people arrested were Americans and arrested on American soil. They should be afforded due process of law. Don't you agree PowerStroker?

Don't get the impression that I am trying to say what they are accused of was RIGHT, as it was WRONG, and Christians know it's not permissible to kill, unless at war under the orders of their Government. It is this stipulation that prevents Christians from being able to dodge the draft under religion. Perhaps the constitution stating that people should take up arms to fight tyranny of Government was the reason behind their planing? Who knows, but loose lips sink ships, and what beef's they had with the police are something that will likely never be known. If they just planned on killing innocent Police men and women at a time of morning they should be put down as they are seriously lost and listening to the voice of the Devil. What fucking idiot targets the police? There has to be more to this story.

I think a White Christain minority fund should be started for people like this. And special entitlements should be afforded to the familes of these men so that their children do not grow up hating America and feeling segrigated. Grants and donations should be factored into our budgets to afford these people a better life and basiclly everything the minoritys have been given with regards to a step up in life. While we are at it lets make John Lennons birthday a national holiday where as all government workers have another paid vacation day. After all John Lennon was for peace, free love and interacial marrige, he was also assasinated. Just "Imagine".

Somehow, "Christian militia groups" only exist during a 'rat administration.

There was a big thing about it on the news tonight too.  Apparently they were trying to inspire other anti-government militia groups to start a great violent revolution of some kind.

Of course I agree, hell, I even think foreign terrorists should be given due process of law, you know that.

You nailed it exactly.  They believe the government is inherently evil and that we are living in the end of days, and that the government is just an arm of the anti-Christ.

After all John Lennon was for peace, free love and interracial marriage, he was also assassinated. Just "Imagine".

I know you too well than to believe you actually think that^^^

Not so,  Remember David Koresh?  Remember Timothy McVeigh?
Though it seems they are less likely to get riled up when Republicans are in power, because as we all know, Republicans hate the government just as much as these terrorists so there's a kind of common ground between Republicans and these terrorists.

My point in posting this was simply to show that terrorism and religious fanaticism isn't isolated to just Islam as some would like to believe, it is often in our own back yard.  Unfortunately these militia groups have increased over 300% since the 08 election.  I sure hope the Secret Service is up to the job because there's a ton of pissed off teabaggers out there who are on the verge of becoming militant.

I dont feel someone without US Citizenship should be afforded the same due process of law when it pertains to murder, but when it comes to things like traffic violations and non-violent crimes I could go along with affording a non-citizen due process. Providing they wont be breaking the law while they await trail. I am talking about prostitutes, Illegal workers and such who have no job or family to fall back on. Send them back to their country and have a video confrence trail, make them pay the fine if they ever become a citizen.

You nailed it exactly.  They believe the government is inherently evil and that we are living in the end of days, and that the government is just an arm of the anti-Christ.

Government in of itself is not evil. But it is possible that some people in charge of the government could be evil, thus using the government as an arm. I am not saying it is, but when constitutional rights are ignored and people are FORCED to purchase something that can be a sign some people arent playing by the rules aka the constitution/bill of rights. Our nation has made it thru times like this in the past, and we will continue to do so. I'd say end of days is a little steep. Unless of course there was all out World War or a world wide natural catastrophe (Like in 2012 the movie). That's the funny thing about life huh? You never can tell.

Of course I agree, hell, I even think foreign terrorists should be given due process of law, you know that.

While I dont condone violent revolution, defense is another story. I feel right now a lot of people are un-happy with certain aspects of recent legislation. Many of them feel they have lost something and are defending what they consider a loss of freedom. The irony to that is it can cost you all your freedom. Right now these kinds of things happen daily in places like Afghanistan, Iraq and many other small countries that are so remote, no one even covers them, or lives to tell the tale!

I know you too well than to believe you actually think that

No I do-not actually think that, I am glad you can spot sarcasm. :) That's what happens when you watch Eminem Videos and mix it with ICET; it leaves you a bit departed from reality. To be honest I was a bit ashamed when I briefly thought about any possible surveillance that may result from me even responding to this thread. I am not a bad person and I'm not a killer, just dont push me. Revenge is like the sweetest joy next to getting pussy. Oh my gawd, was that a little Makavelli that slipped out? My bad!
Hey wasnt that guy assassinated too? Thats another paid government holiday for you there! LOL

Not so,  Remember David Koresh?  Remember Timothy McVeigh?

I try not to.

Though it seems they are less likely to get riled up when Republicans are in power, because as we all know, Republicans hate the government just as much as these terrorists so there's a kind of common ground between Republicans and these terrorists.

Thats not a very fair thing to say PowerStroker. Are you trying to demonize the Republican Party because some folks dont like what you Democrats are doing? For all you know they could have been Democrats who felt like they were stabbed in the back for voting the Obama ticket. I call foul on that statement above! Minus -1 Point PowerStroker for partisan grand-standing.

No one ever said that terrorism and religious fanaticism was isolated to just Islam. As you mentioned above we all try not to remember David and Tim. You were trying to use this post as leverage for your Democratic base. I rejected it and served on back. You just forgot to say Touché' last time!  2 Points PowerStroker and the match goes to SELLC (LOL)

Man I have had to edit this sucker 5 times for complete paragraphs being misplaced! Wonder why?

Oh my... What is this!???

Judge: Militia members can leave jail until trial

DETROIT - A judge ordered Monday that nine jailed members of a Michigan militia be released, saying there's no risk to the public if they go home while awaiting trial on charges of trying to plot war against the government.

U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts overturned the April 2 decision of a federal magistrate judge and questioned the strength of the government's case. She said all nine can be released with electronic monitoring devices and other strict conditions.

Apparently they cant be that dangerous... How many people do you know of that are charged with intent to use weapons of mass distruction and are back on the streets in a few weeks? Something about FREE SPEECH?

Still the trial isnt over yet, but the fact they are not holding these people may prove that the charges were trumped up.

Either that or the Bush tax cuts for the rich bankrupt the city and they can't afford to house and feed these people in jail.

I can see it now... In 2012 Bush will be blamed for the world not coming to an end, and in 2013 Bush will be blamed for Obamacare.

Is there anything that ISNT Bush's fault PowerStroker? Because it's getting kind of stale.
