Obama skips Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington for 2nd Vacation since oil spill!

So, you don't think that Obama skipping the Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington to go on his second vacation since the oil spill is another big SIGN?

Tell me why this issue has not recived more press? Doesnt EVERY PRESIDENT goto these ceremonies? This is absoultly nuts! As a business owner I know there is no such thing as a vacation, and I would have to think that if someone is going to be President they better be willing to keep their nose to the grind stone for 4 years otherwise they ought not be able to see another 4!

What a joke!

Actually Bush skipped a Memorial day at Arlington and sent Cheney instead. Obama did attend a different national cemetery though, doesn't that count? Why does it always have to be Arlington. Shouldn't the President just go to whichever National Cemetery is closest to where he happens to be? Are the soldiers buried in DC any more special than the ones buried in Fort Snelling?

You're just trying to stir up some shit Rex, the president is plenty patriotic so don't worry mkay.

Oh sure lets totally ignore the fact that he's on his second vacation since the oil spill and really he never made any speech at the Lincoln Memorial because it was rained out. You know PowerStroker I prolly have enough money to just drop everything and run off for a week long vacation. Hell for the past two years I been putting off vacations because I felt staying put and working was in my family/customers best interest. Gosh I sure wish Obama who is the PRESIDENT felt the same way.

Obama is plenty patriotic you say huh?

Oh that's was just one of MANY Obama flip-flops as now he wears the lapel pin, but I think it's only because he is being forced to by what Americans might think of him should he not, rather than him being genuinely patriotic it seems his real motive is only to deceive people in an effort to win votes. Just watch the video again if you think I am wrong.

You need to realize that things are getting worse, not better. All you idiots who voted for change can take solace knowing that if Obama is a one term President the amount of severance and security detail we will have to pay to have let Obama Showboat around the nation for 4 years as President was unwise and costly. We should have let him age a little more and voted for the less expensive and MUCH OLDER McCain with the rookie being the Vice President (Sarah Palin) rather than the Commander in Chief. With higher highs come lower lows. As much as I bitch about Obama hes my President and although he is growing on me (like a mole) this most recent vacation spree is not making me feel like a 2nd term would be wise. Obama is BY FAR the biggest Showboater President in American history! He has spent more than ANY PRESIDENT and if he keeps it up he could very well spend more than ALL OF THEM COMBINED!

PowerStroker I am more upset at YOU for buying it than I am at him for selling it. I am not player hating, I just feel like my Captain is trying to throw/fix the game all the while cutting this nation out of the take.

I get my news from Yahoo, MSN, Fox and many other outlets. I find that Fox often times covers things that many others choose to omit. To me that sounds more like honest news than the propoganda that many others choose to fabricate.

Fox choses to cover things that others omit - yes... Others omit right wing propaganda for the most part. I hardly call it "news" anyway, and the vast majority of main stream media agrees with me.

Did Fox make a big stink when Bush skipped Arlington on Memorial Day??? Of course not, this is why REAL media outlets didn't run the story. They know better than to run political hackery for the purpose of whipping up the wing nuts. Problem is, wingnuts like you actively seek such propaganda because apparently you like getting whipped up with another excuse to hate Obama.

Hey PowerStroker, Obama has two wars going on right now. Americans are dying because of his actions. OBAMA SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE. When Bush was over-seas there was no war going on. There is a big diffrence and yet Fox did not omit that Bush missed one while over-seas in his first year of being President.

It's not propoganda... It is the TRUTH.

If you even bothered to read the article you would know that Fox did not omit anything. They mentioned all the presidents in the last 20 years, both Rep. and Dem. So it's not propoganda.

But it's not really "news" either... Just material they put out to get people like you all worked up.

Did you visit a cemetery on Memorial day? I did.

Those 2 wars were started by Bush, and Obama is doing his best to unwind them responsibly. The Oil slick resulted from the Cheeney energy task force stripping regulations and safety standards from Offshore drill rigs in order to pad the pockets of his oil buddies. The Bush administration wasn't just in bed with big oil... The Bush administration WAS big oil and put their corporate interests ahead of the interests of regular citizens. It isn't untill after he left office that we are begining to realize the damage he set in motion, but don't blame Obama for it. Besides, you right wingers don't even want the government involved in corporate business. Why don't we all just chill out and let BP fix their own mess like you Libertarians always say is the best way to deal with things. We don't need any government intervention after all - or so I'm told by people like you. Obama going on vacation is exactly what you guys want when something like this is going on isn't it?

Hey PowerStroker.... Perhaps you should take a 2nd look at who started this thread!? yawn

Obama is so fired it's not even funny. Every Democrat (Except for you) that I have spoken with has said they will not vote Obama again, and that Hillary is the one who will get the Primary Nomination. Who knows, but one thing is for sure, if George Bush was President right now he would personally be on them oil rigs cracking the whip. That sucker would have been plugged the 1st week!

Lets have a re-cap of President Obama's current approval ratings,

Yep... It's not looking good.

Do you base that statement on his having ignored the intelligence predicting the 911 attacks?

Or do you base it on how he didn't find any usable weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?

Or do you base it on his brilliant response to Katrina?

Or do you base it on how he transformed Clinton's $5 Trillion surplus into the worst economy since the Great Depression and worst National debt in world history?

Just because George succeeded in killing a bunch of brown people in the Middle East (many of which were not involved in any attacks)... And thus makes you feel warm and fuzzy by satisfying some of your ignorant right wing blood lust, doesn't make him a good president. Furthermore it doesn't make him somehow more competent in solving national disasters that his policies set in motion. Thanks for playing though.

Hope Obama turns this unemployment funk around because he could be soon looking for a new job.

There is only three things the Bush family knows; Politics, Oil and War (Not nessisarily in that order). Yes if Bush were President I have no doubt the oil spill would have been handled a lot diffrently from the onset. I also feel that John McCain would have handled this and many other problems diffrently and for the better.

There is no doubt the weight of the world is pressing down on Obama. He campaigned as if he was Super Man with a fix for anything and everything.

Obama will bow to a Saudi Prince in respect yet lacks the same kind of respect for the people that put him in office. He will work hard to free war prisoners in GITMO yet go on two vacations while a gushing oil leak wipes out our beaches and marshlands. He will tell us one thing, then do the complete opposite.

Obama is looking to be more like the grim reaper than Superman.

C'mon PowerStroker... You know the real cause of what happend is not known. Unless you can supply a link to some hard proof it's just another famous Obama blame Bush attempt.

Strange thing is I am not the only one tired of hearing it. By the way, wasn't it Chenney who "At one time" had ties to Halliburton and not Bush?

Cheeney was the CEO of Halliburton, and Bush picked him to be Vice President of the United States of America. This leads me to conclude that Bush and Halliburton aren't exactly enemies. Especially when Halliburton was rewarded with BILLIONS of dollars worth of no bid defense contracts by the Bush administration. As a taxpayer I would have preferred having Halliburton compete with other companies for those contracts. Maybe even a company that actually pays taxes would be nice... You do know that Halliburton reincorporated in Abu Dabi to avoid paying any American taxes don't you. How patriotic your friends are there Rex.

You don't like NAFTA??? I thought Republicans never met a bad trade deal they didn't love. I wonder how the Republican majority in congress at the time voted on NAFTA - hmmmm, makes one wonder doesn't it? Especially now that it has played out and Clinton regrets it, but Bush fought hard for even more bad trade deals even after the bad results of NAFTA were well known.

What bad trade deals did Bush put in place? Dont they all sort of build of NAFTA, meaning if there was no NAFTA none of this other new crap could have come about?

I am sure Clinton regrets a lot of things, but he had a way of getting what he wanted. He didn't get the nick-name "Slick Willy" for nothing.

DR-CAFTA he successfully passed, he also attempted some others but luckily the congressional Dems were able to stop some of them.

George W. Bush on NAFTA + WTO
Establish Free Trade Area of the Americas by 2005
We must affirm our commitment to complete negotiations on the free trade area of the Americans by January, 2005. Nothing we do [at the trade meeting] in Quebec will be more important or have a greater long-term impact. It will make our hemisphere the largest free trade area in the world, encompassing 34 countries and 800 million people.
Theres a vital link between freedom of people and freedom of commerce. Democratic freedoms cannot flourish unless our hemisphere also builds a prosperity whose benefits are widely shared. And open trade is an essential foundation for that prosperity and that possibility.

Open trade fuels the engines of economic growth that creates new jobs and new income. It applies the power of markets to the needs of the poor. It spurs the process of economic and legal reform. It helps dismantle protectionist bureaucracies that stifle incentive and invite corruption. And open trade reinforces the habits of liberty that sustain democracy over the long term.

Source: Remarks to the Organization of American States Apr 17, 2001

Add Chile, Brazil, Argentina, & others to NAFTA
Q: Would you pursue a hemispheric trade deal extending the benefits of NAFTA to Central and South America and the Caribbean?
A: My administration will foster democracy and level barriers to trade. If elected, my goal will be free trade agreements with all the nations of Latin America. We can do so in cooperation with our NAFTA partners. We should also do so with Chile, and Brazil and Argentina, the anchor states of Mercosur. We will also work toward free trade with the smaller nations of Central America and the Caribbean. We must be flexible because one-size-fits-all negotiations are not always the answer. But the ultimate goal will remain constant, free trade from northernmost Canada to the tip of Cape Horn. In the near term, we will renew trade preferences with the Andean nations - enacted in 1991, and set to expire next year.

Source: Associated Press Oct 31, 2000

No trade barriers from Alaska to the tip of Cape Horn
Bush went campaigning in Mexico today, dedicating the World Trade Bridge in Laredo. In the past there have been walls of divide between Mexico and the US, Bush said. We must be committed to raise the bridges of trade & friendship & freedom. Bush said the opening of the bridge was an example of the growing economic ties between the US and Mexico. In promising to push aggressively for free trade in this hemisphere, Bush said he would tear down trade barriers from Alaska to the tip of the Cape Horn.
Source: Jim Yardley, New York Times Apr 24, 2000

Fast Track in west; WTO in east
Bush said he would seek fast-track negotiating status from Congress to expand free trade in the Western Hemisphere: I will work to create an entire hemisphere in free trade, he said. I will work to extend the benefits of NAFTA from the northernmost Alaska to the tip of Cape Horn. He said he wanted to build on NAFTA to bring other countries throughout Latin America Meanwhile, the Bush campaign distributed a policy statement that said he supports admission of China and Taiwan to the WTO.
Source: Kelley Shannon, Associated Press, in L.A. Times Apr 24, 2000

Supports Fast Track; WTO; NAFTA; anti-dumping
Supports Fast Track negotiating authority for the President
Called for eliminating trade barriers & tariffs everywhere so the whole world trades in freedom
Called for strict enforcement of anti-dumping & other unfair trade laws
Supports expansion of NAFTA throughout the Americas
Supports Chinas & Taiwans admission into the WTO
Supports revising export controls, to tighten control over military technology & ease restrictions on technology already available commercially

My point is that Bush is at least as much, if not more in favor of bad free trade deals that benefit trans-national corporations at the expense of the working class. It's typical of Republicans to be that way.

Really?

What about Clintons "White Water" scandle? I am pretty sure you have a false sence of security when it comes to your thoughts on this one.

You say at least we try to purge these people, I say "Money is the grease for the wheels". One of them very fine line things where Democrats seem to perish when the time for a correction rolls around. If Bush spent more than he should have, then it was only because Clinton handed him cooked books to make his money projections.

Actually Clinton is one who I wouldn't have minded purging due to his free trade mentality, but he was the lesser of 2 evils at the time.

The labor unions spent $10 million in a bid that failed yesterday to purge senator Blanche Lincoln in her primary race, but since she barely won we are yet again stuck with her being the lesser of 2 evils. She is a Dem by title, but not a whole lot better than a Republican. Hopefully she learns her lesson but I doubt it.

Well I guess two vacations wasnt enough.

Tony Hayward "Want's his life back" and goes out Boating, meanwhile the US President follows suit by spending Friday and Saturady watching baseball and golfing.

Some how I think were all getting fucked here. I mean why doesnt everyone just drop what they are doing and go on vacation? I guess the people not going on vacation every other week are the ones that feel the only way to get out of a mess is to work hard at it.

To me a 1st term President needs to be busting ass for 4 years. I can only imagine what kind of vacation schedual Obama would have in a 2nd term.

Am I jealous? NO! Because unlike Obama I want to get my obligations handled. I dont get paid shit compared to Obama, nor do I have a drop in the bucket when compared to his resouces.

Why doesnt he just spend time with his family in that nice big White House that Americans are putting him up in? Why the need for all this frolicking?

You know what I did last Friday and Saturday? I WORKED MY ASS OFF.
Know what I did on Sunday? I spent the day with my family, played some baseball with my kids in the park and took them fishing. None of this SELFISH ME-ME-ME lets go out and party like a rock star on the nations dime!

I dont even see how Obama could be having a good time knowing that so many are in trouble. Given all the problems he has, how could he even enjoy himself?

Most people take one maybe two vacations a year. These people usually have jobs or own a business like myself. Obama has a job too and if you ask me, I think his vacation time has long since been used up. Being president isnt a 9-5 job, the monkey should always be on his back, just like it is mine.

Sometimes I get the feeling Obama is just along for the ride, telling idiots what they want to hear at the moment all the while doing the opposite.

IT MUST BE AN ELECTION YEAR!

Because instead of going on vacation as usual, Obama actually paid a visit to Arlington for Memorial Day ceremonies!

Sorry Mr. Prez, but unlike the 99%ers my memory extends beyond just the past 3 months! I find it totally amazing that people are so clueless to how fake this guy is!

Better late than never, yet still a little bit too little too late! The hallmark of the current administration!

I think Obama is realizing that he's actually going to have to WORK to get re-elected. Up until now, he's been cruising along on the premise that his "Messiah" halo from the 2008 election was still in full effect. The polls have evidently woken him up, and made him understand that there are A LOT of people in this country (even many of his former supporters) who DO NOT LIKE what he's done, and DO NOT WANT him attempting to continue running the country.

The 2008 election was probably the largest political snow job that any of us will ever see in our lifetimes. Over the next 20-25 years, when Obama actually does get properly vetted by historians and the press, I think there's going to be revelations and truths about this guy that come out, which will be confirmed, that will shake this country to its foundations. The media and others are too timid today to do any of this heavy work, but believe me it will be done in the future, and it will NOT be pretty when the real truth about Obama comes out. And I can't wait to poke my finger in the eye of my liberal friends when this happens and listen to them tell me that I was right all along about this guy.

Bush never lied you idiot!

Yet it's okay when Obama makes statements that turn out to be less than true?

Your problem is not that your home is worth less than what it should be. Your problem is you're bull-headed enough to be happy about it just because the President happens to be a Democrat.

Take for instance Obama's "Kill List". On one hand I give him credit for having the balls to do such a thing, on the other hand I often wonder about the many innocent people that get killed in drone attacks that spawn off 100's of new terrorist who feel our un-announced mini-wars amount to terrorism. It's a slippery slope and I am glad I am not the one making them calls.

It's one thing to go to war with a decloration, whereas people pretty much know there is going to be trouble. It's another thing to engauge in wars behind closed doors without the support of the nation and congress.

Your empty claims that Bush fluffed intelligence is pure bullshit. Has there been ANY efforts by the US to charge Bush for these false claims you are making PowerStroker? NO! So shut your trap already! Might I add that Bush was re-elected for a second term, something your buddy Obama might not be able to pull off.

Bush got approval for his war, which was backed up by the ENTIRE nation and congress.

Obama on the other hand *cough* Libya *cough* thought the UN was all the approval he needed.

How about the Pakistan raid? How about his little Kony war in Africa?

Spare us your ignorant statements PowerStroker! Just get back in that POS Saturn and take your silly ass home already! Oh but that's right, you need a submarine to go home, due to the fact its underwater! Like anyone should listen to a damn word you say!
