Goldman cuts U.S. clients out of Facebook deal

So it seems Jew-Boy needs to move his operations over to Israel. Even though Goldman Sachs claims it's their SOLE decision, the Facebook punk Mark could thwart this action and instead is doing nothing.

What a racist thing to do! Not only that they are going to side step US regulations?

That means firms like Goldman Sachs can potentially skirt public disclosure rules through the use of a special investment vehicle. These funds can offer numerous investors the opportunity to buy stock, but the shares are all listed in the name of Goldman Sachs and only count as one shareholder of record.

"We regret the consequences of this decision, but Goldman Sachs believes this is the most prudent path to take," Goldman said in the statement.

I am so glad I closed my Facebook account! Seems like the Russians want to own all our photos and information now.

Oh don't worry about it Rex, just let the free market do it's magic. They don't need any big government regulations or anything.

Who said anything about big government regulation?

The PEOPLE of the United States are well capable of handling this situation by closing their account and taking away that what Facebook needs to be prosperous, OUR LIVES, PHOTOS, FRIENDS and FAMILY.

I think one of the MAIN reasons they are doing this is because of the SEC, one of your "Big Government Regulators". While Goldman Sachs wants to blame the media, the truth is it's the SEC regulation they are trying to side step by pulling this maneuver, only Goldman Sachs doesn't have the BALLS to say that. It's just much easier to blame the media.

And let's not forget what brought this whole thing on... Facebook is trying to claim it's worth $50 BILLION dollars! Yet they don't want to have to PROVE IT. Instead they would rather sap suck the American investors into investing all their money into the company for the ole' Pump & Dump. Goldman Sachs is at it again!

Wall Street compensation emerged as a hot-button issue in 2009 and 2010 as politicians, activists and others complained that banks privatized their profits and socialized their losses.

Goldman bankers received $15.4 billion in pay, bonuses

Salaries more than eight times U.S. average; banks earnings fell 53 percent

I think we should socialize all of the banks and cap executive pay at $60k/year.

I am sure the bankers would just find some kind of "Vehicle" to circumvent the cap, and then move their operations over-seas and deny Americans access to bank accounts and loans.

But you see, I already solved that problem through my suggestion of SOCIALIZING the banks. If We The People own them through our government, then they can't just move their operations over-seas. I don't see public libraries moving over seas in search of profits... We could make the banks the same way if only the Republicans would stop accepting campaign contributions from banksters in exchange for keeping the status quo. And Democrats too to a lesser extent.

That's pretty funny PowerStroker... But the Government is made up of the same flesh that makes up business people, and thus are equally susceptible to corruption. The only difference is it's a lot harder to shut down a corrupt Government than it is to send a corrupt business packing.

My suggestion would be changing oversight people as often as you change a babys diapers, and much for the same reason.

If we only elect people who believe in good government, instead of corporate types who run for public office in order to drill holes in all of the regulations that have hampered their efforts to stick it to people, we wouldn't have this problem.

Hey, aren't Republicans usually a bunch of business people who don't like government? Maybe we should all vote Democrat?

Any Republican that hates government is a gawt damn liar! If it wasn't for government they wouldn't have a job. Republicans are against the "Over-Reaching" of government. You know, like when the Government starts telling the people they HAVE to buy something, like for instance health care.

Get it right buddy.

Republicans are against such "over reaching" like the idea that healthcare is a right and not a privledge for the rich. They're also against any "over reaching" that cuts in to the profit margins of societies elite Scrooges.

The percentage of our nations wealth that they hold is greater than the percentage of taxes they pay.

Warren Buffet even said that his secretary pays a higher percentage of her income in taxes than he does. Do you think this is a good idea Rex? How come a middle class guy like you is so determined to defend lower taxes for the uber wealthy?

I'd like to see a YouTube video of Warren Buffet making that statement because I don't think he's dumb enough to say something like that. I bet it's just some BS story someone made up.

I am uber wealthy in ways other than money PowerStroker.

Buffett blasts system that lets him pay less tax than secretary

Warren Buffett, the third-richest man in the world, has criticised the US tax system for allowing him to pay a lower rate than his secretary and his cleaner.

Speaking at a $4,600-a-seat fundraiser in New York for Senator Hillary Clinton, Mr Buffett, who is worth an estimated $52 billion (£26 billion), said: The 400 of us [here] pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter. If youre in the luckiest 1 per cent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent.

Mr Buffett said that he was taxed at 17.7 per cent on the $46 million he made last year, without trying to avoid paying higher taxes, while his secretary, who earned $60,000, was taxed at 30 per cent. Mr Buffett told his audience, which included John Mack, the chairman of Morgan Stanley, and Alan Patricof, the founder of the US branch of Apax Partners, that US government policy had accentuated a disparity of wealth that hurt the economy by stifling opportunity and motivation.

The comments are among the most signficant yet in a debate raging on both sides of the Atlantic about growing income inequality and how the super-wealthy are taxed.

They echo those made this month by Nicholas Ferguson, one of the leading figures in Britains private equity industry, when he criticised tax rates that left its multimillionaire venture capitalists paying less tax than a cleaning lady.

Last week senior members of the US Senate proposed to increase the rate of tax that private equity and hedge fund staff pay on their share of the profits, known as carried interest, from the 15 per cent capital gains rate to about 35 per cent.

Lloyd Blankfein, the chief executive of Goldman Sachs, acknowledged in an interview yesterday that there were justified concerns about the huge profits generated by private equity firms and that he worried that income inequality was poisoning democracy. He also said that he would be voting for the Democrat candidate at the next election. Mr Blankfein is the highest-paid executive on Wall Street, earning $54 million last year.

Mr Buffett, who runs the investment group Berkshire Hathaway and is widely regarded as the worlds most successful investor, said that he was a Democrat because Republicans are more likely to think: Im making $80 million a year God must have intended me to have a lower tax rate.

Mr Buffett said that a Republican proposal to eliminate elements of inheritance tax, which raises about $30 billion a year from the assets of about 12,000 rich families, would broaden the disparity between rich and poor. He added that the Republicans would seek to recover lost revenue by increasing taxes for the less prosperous.

He said: You could take that $30 billion and give $1,000 to 30 million poor families. Or should you favour the 12,000 estates and make 30 million families pay an extra $1,000?

Click here to have your say on the tax paid by private equity.

Well PowerStroker... If you could "Close the Deal" and had kids of your own you would realize that the Democrats are taxing the ways in which parents are uber wealthy by strapping their children with enormous debts, poor health care requirements, and an involuntary voluntarygive act. Meanwhile your messiah helps his kids skip school to further his vacation time.

I could go on and on, but you are a clueless self serving person, incapable of even understanding the meaning of true wealth. Please read the "What is money" thread again. I think it was moved to the V8 Cafe.

Oh an with regards to Warren Buffett, well I am sure he will be sitting next to Donald Trump at the Federal building when they go Bankrupt to cleanse their bad debt again. Much like how GM was able to go Bankrupt and keep everything, so will these two clowns. Meanwhile the rest of the nation (5 million more in 2011) will lose it all.

Yeah but that was only because Obama was giving his "Sky is falling" speech. Obama had no problems blowing the other half and promised he could reduce unemployment... Well as you know that never happened so now he's looking for another $800 billion to piss away before he is voted out in 2012.

Thats exactly what I am suggesting.

And it works both ways since it appears that by Obama doing that he has shot himself in the foot, especially since Obama has yet to repair the damage he and the Democrats started with their whole "The sky is falling" campaign. Bush might have had his last year marred in that campaign, but Obama is 3 years into it with no resolve. By that standard Obama would be considered the bigger Putz.

Are you suggesting the 10 years the US has spent looking for him after 9/11 didn't count? And that just out of the blue Obama found him all on his own?

If that be the case, I would seriously be worried.

He looked for him a little while, then he decided he could use this as an excuse to go after Saddam Hussein and start a big war in Iraq that had nothing to do with 911, but would be infinitely more profitable for his military contractor buddies.

Seems to me Clinton assigned a division of the CIA to hunt Bin Laden, Bush didn't give a rat's ass about Bin Laden, and even directed the CIA to shut down the division trying to find him.  Then President Obama made it a CIA priority again.

_______________________________________________________________

New York Times

Published: July 4, 2006

WASHINGTON, July 3 The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday.

The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A. Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

The decision is a milestone for the agency, which formed the unit before Osama bin Laden became a household name and bolstered its ranks after the Sept. 11 attacks, when President Bush pledged to bring Mr. bin Laden to justice "dead or alive."

The realignment reflects a view that Al Qaeda is no longer as hierarchical as it once was, intelligence officials said, and a growing concern about Qaeda-inspired groups that have begun carrying out attacks independent of Mr. bin Laden and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Agency officials said that tracking Mr. bin Laden and his deputies remained a high priority, and that the decision to disband the unit was not a sign that the effort had slackened. Instead, the officials said, it reflects a belief that the agency can better deal with high-level threats by focusing on regional trends rather than on specific organizations or individuals.

"The efforts to find Osama bin Laden are as strong as ever," said Jennifer Millerwise Dyck, a C.I.A. spokeswoman. "This is an agile agency, and the decision was made to ensure greater reach and focus."

The decision to close the unit was first reported Monday by National Public Radio.

Michael Scheuer, a former senior C.I.A. official who was the first head of the unit, said the move reflected a view within the agency that Mr. bin Laden was no longer the threat he once was.

Mr. Scheuer said that view was mistaken.

"This will clearly denigrate our operations against Al Qaeda," he said. "These days at the agency, bin Laden and Al Qaeda appear to be treated merely as first among equals."

In recent years, the war in Iraq has stretched the resources of the intelligence agencies and the Pentagon, generating new priorities for American officials. For instance, much of the military's counterterrorism units, like the Army's Delta Force, had been redirected from the hunt for Mr. bin Laden to the search for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who was killed last month in Iraq.

An intelligence official who was granted anonymity to discuss classified information said the closing of the bin Laden unit reflected a greater grasp of the organization. "Our understanding of Al Qaeda has greatly evolved from where it was in the late 1990's," the official said, but added, "There are still people who wake up every day with the job of trying to find bin Laden."

Established in 1996, when Mr. bin Laden's calls for global jihad were a source of increasing concern for officials in Washington, Alec Station operated in a similar fashion to that of other agency stations around the globe.

The two dozen staff members who worked at the station, which was named after Mr. Scheuer's son and was housed in leased offices near agency headquarters in northern Virginia, issued regular cables to the agency about Mr. bin Laden's growing abilities and his desire to strike American targets throughout the world.

In his book "Ghost Wars," which chronicles the agency's efforts to hunt Mr. bin Laden in the years before the Sept. 11 attacks, Steve Coll wrote that some inside the agency likened Alec Station to a cult that became obsessed with Al Qaeda.

"The bin Laden unit's analysts were so intense about their work that they made some of their C.I.A. colleagues uncomfortable," Mr. Coll wrote. Members of Alec Station "called themselves 'the Manson Family' because they had acquired a reputation for crazed alarmism about the rising Al Qaeda threat."

Intelligence officials said Alec Station was disbanded after Robert Grenier, who until February was in charge of the Counterterrorist Center, decided the agency needed to reorganize to better address constant changes in terrorist organizations.

Bush Rejects Taliban Bin Laden Offer

By Kathy Gannon
Associated Press Writer
Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001; 1:50 p.m. EDT

JALALABAD, Afghanistan A senior Taliban leader said Sunday that the Islamic militia would be willing to hand over Osama bin Laden to a third country if the United States halts the bombing of Afghanistan and provides evidence against him.

President Bush quickly rejected the offer.

"The president has been very clear, there will be no negotiations," White House spokeswoman Anne Womack said. Washington has repeatedly rejected any negotiations or conditions on its demands that the Taliban surrender bin Laden and his al-Qaida terror network.

The statement by Deputy Prime Minister Haji Abdul Kabir did not break new ground. But its timing and the fact it was made to foreign reporters by such a senior figure the Taliban's third most powerful figure could indicate the movement was desperate for a way out of the crisis after more than a week of punishing airstrikes.

Kabir said that if the United States gave evidence bin Laden was behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and halted the bombing, "we would be ready to hand him over to a third country" a country, he added, that would never "come under pressure from the United States."

"If America were to step back from the current policy, then we could negotiate," he said. "Then we could discuss which third country."

Before the start of the air campaign, the Taliban had demanded evidence of bin Laden's involvement in the attack and had offered to try him before an Islamic court inside Afghanistan proposals that the United States promptly rejected.

Kabir's offer came a day after the Taliban's supreme leader rebuffed a "second chance" given by Bush for the Islamic militia to surrender bin Laden to the United States. In a blistering statement, Mullah Mohammed Omar said there was no move to "hand over anyone" and accused the United States of killing Afghans.

The United States launched the airstrikes Oct. 7 after weeks of pressing the Taliban to give up bin Laden unconditionally.

The last half assed military mission that was carried out (Clinton) ended up resulting in 9/11.

With the current nuclear proliferation reports hitting the news as of late I cringe when thinking about what this new half assed military campaign will result in. We have shoulder mounted rocket launchers that have come up missing, evidence of nuclear proliferation stretching from China, Libya and Afghanistan not to mention meetings with Gaddafi's hinchmen and China nationals. Then we have North Korea making deals with the Russians.

All of this on Obamas watch mind you. So tell me how the $3 trillion dollars spent since 9/11 was a waste again? Seems to me something is brewing and the current administration is either too dumb to connect the dots or just simpily dont give a damn. Take your pick.

Let us all remember what Goldman did with Facebook...

It should come as no shock that Apple now uses Goldman for their Apple card...

At least we don't have to worry about Gaddafi anymore! And at the rate Israel is going, we won't have to worry about Palestine anymore either! I wish Rashida Tlaib would visit her homeland right about now.

Israel has hundreds of nuclear war-heads on missiles, & they're not afraid to use them.

The big problem over there right now, is that they're building infrastructure outside of their own border, which as-you-know, is highly illegal, stupid, & asking for trouble...

And the really sad / stupid / WTF perspective is, why would you want to move there in the first place ???...

You got me! It was you Britts who had a major hand in establishing Israel, sure America just loves the British stench she was birthed from, so like always we just went along.

In other words, you guys had no idea what to do with the Jews and Hitler had some ideas that were not very popular in handling them... so we gave them most Palestine!

What could possibly go wrong!?
