Unfortunately PowerStroker, given the medias non-stop misreporting of the facts in just about EVERY story anymore I wouldn't be surprised if the GOP had a legitimate reason for not paying the rent such as the property owner not maintaining the structure or grounds, leaky roof, you name it!

This story has not popped up in the main-stream media yet, and I am pretty sure that if the story had merit MSDNC would have the story at the top of their list.

The way things work is like this, if the land owner has welched on their obligations as a land lord the GOP (or anyone else for that matter) would stop paying until such time as they fixed or made right the fault.

I'd be interested in hearing what gets said in the complaint/repsonce of this civil matter when it goes to court. I clicked the link and the story is VERY small, with VERY little details.

I hope you follow up on this story. I'd be interested in hearing what really went down.

The cash-strapped Republican Party of Minnesota has been served eviction papers at its St. Paul headquarters.

State Republican Party Chairman Pat Shortridge notified GOP activists late last week that the party had not paid rent since last August. He said negotiations with the building owner did not prevent the landlord from taking the matter to court.

Were not going to be evicted, Shortridge said. He added that they are continuing to negotiate on the back payments as well as on a lease that better fits both our space needs and our budget.

The possible eviction is the latest blow for a state Republican Party that has been swamped with debt and financial problems for more than a year. Along with being more than $1 million in debt, state Republicans are being investigated by the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board for inaccurate campaign reporting.

The problems, along with revelations about sloppy bookkeeping, prompted former GOP Chairman Tony Sutton to step down from his $100,000-a-year post.

Since Shortridge took over more than four months ago, the party has shed staff and began working to renegotiate with creditors.

While this is a situation none of us wants, it's part of the rebuilding process, Shortridge said. No one ever said it would be simple or easy or without bumps along the way.

The story was first reported by Politics in Minnesota.

Shortridge was not immediately available for an interview.

Its a tough economy out there. You have to stretch your penny, juggle bills, try to extend your credit, make minimum payments and balance your budget to the best of your ability with the income you have. One false move, and youre homeless.

No, Im not talking about the average American this time. Im talking about the Republican Party of Minnesota.

Yes, the MNGOP has hit some troubled times. Accusations of mishandling of funds have flourished. The party was forced to foot the bill for a costly Gubernatorial recount in 2010. One key staffer has gone rogue after being fired for allegedly having an affair with his boss, the Senate Majority Leader.

Now, after not paying rent in almost a year, the party is being evicted from its headquarters. The debt-plagued Republican Party of Minnesota is getting kicked out of its party headquarters near the state Capitol. Massachusetts-based Hub Properties Trust filed paperwork in Ramsey County on Wednesday to evict the state GOP for failing to pay more than $96,000 in rent over the last year.

Now, a Republican would say that when your bills are more than you can pay, its irresponsible or morally bankrupt to walk away, or expect a handout. So we can only expect that the MNGOP is ready to sit down around the kitchen table, see where they can cut spending, and pick up an extra job or two in order to make ends meet.

After all, its what they tell the American public to do.

I was surprised this story had not been diaried by now. I haven't written one for a long time, but this is just too good. For the last year, it was known that the Minnesota State GOP was in debt and behind in many of their bills. But today it was released that one of those bills they have not been paying was the rent for their state offices and an eviction notice has been filed.

The GOP of Minnesota has not been able to make a full rent payment since last April, making only partial payments according to the Minnesota Star Tribune Debt-laden Minn. GOP notified of eviction and have completely stopped payments since August. They are now over $110,000 behind on their rent and go to court on Tuesday. This is part of the $2,000,000 in debt the party currently has on the books.

I'm sure the disconnect between the GOP and reality has been noticed by pretty much anybody who reads this story, but not the GOP leadership. Republican National Committeeman Jeff Johnson's response was that he was surprised and disappointed by the eviction filing.

I can understand how somebody facing foreclosure on their home might be surprised and disappointed after their interest rates spiked due to loose regulations on home loans. I can understand how they could feel resentment. I can understand how they could feel powerless to stop this.

I can't understand how this comes as a surprise to the party that thinks that people not paying mortgages and rent should be thrown out onto the street. But then again, this is the same state GOP that thinks Michelle Bachman is worthy of a seat in the House of Representatives.

What we have here in Minnesota is a party that drove the family car off a cliff, rode their own personal bicycle off a cliff, and still ask the people of the state to trust them that they can get us to our destination. Hopefully the voters this November revoke their licence.

8:23 AM PT: Update:

On a personal note, a bank error caused my own rent to fall through while I was out of the country. When I got back two weeks later, I had my own eviction notice that I was able to get straightened out after proving it was not my fault. In that case, I WAS surprised.

So it only takes 2 weeks to get an eviction notice if you're one of the 99%, but for the GOP...we'll give you a year...

At one time (2006/2007) Stoma was given the opportunity to be a moderator of the off-topic forum. When someone is made a moderator they are able to edit post, delete them and pretty much run the forum.

It seems that if Stoma is a true, conservative 1%er has he claims (calling you a liberal or fake conservative all the time), wouldn't his philosophy and political ideals as said 1%er be completely at odds with PowerStroker's philosophy? I have seen time and time again on this forum how PowerStroker espouses anti-conservative positions, yet:

- He seems to be very friendly and even strongly supportive of Stoma and his presence on this forum
- He seems to have no issue whatsoever with Stoma's statements about being a 1%er, "real" conservative, etc.
- He seems to have no issue with the namecalling (particularly the references to homosexuality, etc.) and bigotry that Stoma regularly talks about; generally liberals strongly decry bigotry and hate

So, am I unreasonable in identifying these rather strongly ironic (and I daresay, even hypocritical) positions of PowerStroker, in terms of not calling out Stoma for his expressed beliefs? I have made statements in the past about abolishing unions and other provocative, conservative statements and PowerStroker has been all over me for them. However, he seems to not mind, even glossing over (and by his lack of a response, I would say welcoming) Stoma's bigotry and contrarian political positions.

What makes you of this irony, SELLC? Are PowerStroker and Stoma actually in cahoots? Are they brothers? If I didn't so strongly believe that Stoma was actually Mohammed Farouk Gribble, I'd believe that perhaps even Stoma and PowerStroker were the same character.

It just indicates you have little to no integrity nor consistency in your belief system. Which, in reality, is a common characteristic of most liberals. Logic and reason are not generally in the liberal/progressive playbook.

I'm all good with it, but it's a point that is quite glaring, that's all.
