Congratulations President Obama!

Well... I guess congratulations are in order for President Obama and his fellow Democrat constituents.

Congratulations.

And, as an added bonus I must admit that I was rather impressed with his victory speech. I mean he truly looked humbled and spoke from the center. I honestly thought his speech was going to be arrogant and cocky, but I was pleasantly surprised.

There are a lot of issues I am still very concerned about such as,

(1) A seriously flawed heathcare law that only "Mandates" you buy insurance, however many people will still be left un-insured. I'd feel better about his heathcare law if EVERYONE was insured with at least some basic coverage that covers them in the event of a serious injury or illness.

(2) I dont agree with his stance on gay marriage. While I don't feel gays should be denied their right to a union, I don't feel the traditional man/woman union should be disgraced by allowing two people of the same sex to get the same concessions as traditional unions that promote reproduction. If everyone were gay today, man-kind would be extinct in 120 years from today. It's not fair to overlook the fact that man and woman unions ensure future generations are born and the challenges that traditional man/woman unions face is far greater than that of homosexuals (In most cases a few exceptions aside).

What I DO agree with is,

(1) His ability to keep America from going to war, although the Libya blow-back is somewhat discouraging, only because it felt like a cover-up of the facts. It wasn't a movie that caused our embassy to be attacked, and I would have felt better with him calling it was it was, and promising to hold the people that did it responsible.

(2) His work to end overdraft fee's by forcing banks to deny charges without fee's if an account does not have sufficient funds. I have praised this legislation from day one, and I only hope that similar things come out of the Obama woodwork. I'll give Obama a tip, it's these damn banks that are holding up the economy. They just aren't lending, and even when they did they were ripping us off!

So it will be VERY interesting to me in the next 4 years what Obama does without the fear of "re-election" looming over his head. Will he move to center and use his silver toung to create a legacy of unity and greatness? I sure hope so! But I been let down before. Back when Obama was voted President in 2008 I said things like "Clean slate", "I hope I am wrong" and "Congratulations". My "Dream" is to look back 4 years from now and say "You know, I was wrong about that guy!" and "I am better off today than 8 years ago".

More than ANYTHING, I am so very glad this election is over. It has been an incredable distraction for me. As you can see from this forum I have spent an enormus amount of time following Obama's Administration and more often times than not I don't agree.

If Obama can live up to his speech he made tonight I think America will be better off 4 years from today. If he can't, well it's going to be a long 4 years!

You know Rex, I'm proud of you for being so graceful.

I had been following Nate Silver's projections on how the electoral college would pan out (he created a very accurate computer program to predict such things) so I was pretty confident for several weeks now that Obama would win by a comfortable margin, but I didn't want to bring it up because I knew you guys would just blow it off because Nate Silver happens to be a liberal. My grand plan was to come in here tonight and rub your noses in this, but it was actually President Obama's speech that stopped me from doing so. He gave me some needed perspective and reminded me that all of us who participate in our government by voting are equally patriots and love our country, and he's right.

And so rather than me being a dick on a night when you have already had a tough time, I'm just going to congratulate you guys on keeping the House of Representitaves under Republican control. As you know, Obama can't create any laws without the House of Reps backing it, and so the only way forward is with compromise - just as the founders intended. I'm glad the campaigning is over so now the governing can begin, and honestly, I'm hopeful that together we can make this country stronger.

What the hell is wrong with Florida? They finally finished the count today giving their electoral votes to Obama for a grand total of 332.

We had a couple ballot innitiatives here in MN. One was a voter ID law, and one would ban gay marriage - both were rejected. Not that gay marriage is legal here, they just failed to make it illegal.

Did you guys have any proposed state Constitutional ammendments?

Yeah, it was amazing how many Amendments they wanted to make to Michigans Constitution!

I think in total there was 4 or 5 of them, in the form of "Proposals" of which many I voted "Keep your damn hands off our constitution!" Last Presidential election we had medical pot on the ballot, which passed. But this year there was nothing outside of flat out money grabs for rich people, with little to no meat on the bone for the people.

I don't know what Florida's problem is. Maybe they want to be the next "Ohio" or something. What I can say is that all of this "Swing State" bullshit needs to stop. Why in the world "Ohio" is given such attention during an election needs to be addressed. These states need to get slapped with some sort of fine if they cant tally up the votes in a reasonable amount of time, and given the fact 49 other states were able to perform on election night means Florida needs to get it together. This is not the first time Florida has sand bagged on the election. It's time to put an end to it!

Since Obama won Florida and the election with 332 EV's it's clearly a "Land Slide" victory for Obama. Now the ball is in Obama's court.

See, now I'm all confused. Rex is being gracious and mature, and Gerry has gone deep and quiet.

If Rex is the mature one, I must be in the Twilight Zone.

Gracious and mature? C'mon... Pahleese... A good speech is a good speech. I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Meanwhile Gerry and his fellow Texans arent wasting any timing waiting, they are signing petitions to succeed from the union!

And he's not the only one! 15 other states!

Crazy!
