1n 1975, Hostess was bought by a computer company called DPF which was looking to change it's business model due to anti-trust lawsuits.

In 1981, DPF changed their name back to Hostess' original parent companies name of Interstate Bakeries

In 1995, "Interstate Bakeries"  leveraged themselves to the max in order to purchase several other baking companies

In 2004 their leveraging and expansion proved to be a bad decision and they declared their first bankrupcy - mind you the corporate executives still paid themselves millions while their union employees gave major concessions to try and keep the company afloat.  Eventually they were able to saddle the company with more debt to emerge from bankrupcy.

In January 2012 Hostess files for Chapter 11 again

In March 2012 court documents show corporate executives paying themselves millions with 80% annual pay raises.

In July 2012 it became clear the company was under-funding the employee pension plan

In November 2012 the employees went on strike for breach of contract.

Today It was announced they are liquidating their assets

Tomorrow Bain Capital will buy it and start thr process all over.

 It's no spin PowerStroker! Bottom line is 18,000 people will be without jobs because the UNION decided that a small pay cut was worse than NO JOB AT ALL.

Nope... It's cut and dry... This is the work of the Union and I'd like to start seeing some Unions going out of business! Of course the union that cost this nation 18,000 jobs is still in business, taking money from idiots like yourself who lack the ability to negotiate for yourself.

I feel that what the union does amounts to extorsion, and I think EVERY union that strikes in an effort to shutter a business should be charged as such and put out of business! Unions have outlived their usefullness and now they are costing Americans a classic snack brand.

I hear people that work for the union say ALL THE TIME that the only time they see a Union boss is when someone refuses to pay their dues. Unions have done NOTHING to help me except raise the cost of goods I buy and take down companies that would otherwise offer jobs to the millions that are unemployed.

Time and time again I hear the stories from Union workers how they work 4 hour days and stand around the other 4. Time and again I hear the stories of Union people being told not to work so hard so the company does not expect as much. Time and time again I hear stories of HARD WORKERS being harassed while the lazy entitlement type get advanced just because they may have worked there longer. We don't need any more politics within our nations businesses, time to usher in the old mentality that HARD WORK DOES PAY!

I don't even want to get started on how I feel about Unions having their hands in Government jobs... Ill just say that shit needs to stop NOW, and slowly but surly it is. If anything PowerStroker, Hostess is basiclly dumping the union by going out of business. So put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Bottom line is this... When Hostess is gone it will be sold to China, who has no unions... So it's a lose/lose for Americans. Democrats are a lose/lose for Americans also... Seems like they would rather cut their noses off to spite their face!

Oh by the way PowerStroker... Let me give you a little lesson on how Business works... THE OWNER MAKES THE LIONS SHARE OF THE PAY! PERIOD! Just like the person that owns your dealership makes the lions share of the money thats the way it is! You don't like it? OPEN YOUR OWN BUSINESS, take risk, hang your balls out there otherwise STFU and get back to work!

Your ilk have cost some 18,000 familes to be without a job right around the holidays! Wont be long before the US Post Office is in the same boat too! All these people that worked at Hostess will be collecting unemployment and government hand outs, just the way your kind like it.

However, as a mechanic; sometimes I find myself doing 10 hour jobs that really take 15-20 in order to do properly. I don't think that's fair but do I throw out the baby with the bathwater and quit? Hell no! (Think warranty time for a bedplate gasket).

The "real" question is are these 18,000 "Middle-Class" workers better off now that they have no jobs at all? Let's just say on the low side 2000 of them really needed the job and 6000 of them were loyal hard workers totally fine with the pay cut and wanted to stick it out to keep the doors open. Couldn't them other 10,000 folks just have quit and found "better" paying jobs? Many if not ALL of the people who worked for Hostess didn't even really have a choice, they had to follow their union for better or worse.... And what I am saying is this is an example of "For worse".

Now their pensions and compensations packages are REALLY at risk, and all of them were effectively FIRED. You claim CEO's were getting millions but they too are losing their jobs and in the same boat as the workers. It's not un-usual for CEO's of "National" food brands to make millions in a year, but now they are shit out of luck too. Worse still is we may be looking at another once classic American snack turning into a Mexican distribution route with familar logos and names to usher in more imports. It's pretty bad when America can't even make a Twinky anymore! I'm a little put-off.

So by that rational PowerStroker, the American Government will be the next big business to go under... Right?

I'd say $14+ trillion dollars would qualify as "failed".

Just think about all the Hostess workers who are now without a job on Thanksgiving thanks to their union!

I am willing to bet all the red-tape and such ensured that many of them were without a paycheck for the holiday. And to think these people PAID a union good money each month in dues for this holiday pink slip! If I were them I'd be pissed!

I think unions should be held accountable and in cases that people lose their jobs due to union greed the workers should get EVERY PENNY back from the union they paid in dues, plus the Union must pay a percentage of unemployment. There may have been hope for Hostess and the only "Failed Business Model" in play with Hostess was the UNIONS that strangled the company to death.  Hell... Even the "Teamsters" knew pusing the strike too far was going to crush the business, but if the Teamsters werent bad enough Hostess was fighting with yet another Union!
