Now this is a W126 HIGH Performance Exhaust System! A+ Drool towel required!

Yo SELLC,

That is a very very nice system...I read somewhere on this site ( don't ask where, I've gotten lost too many times already ) that you acquired and possibly ran an exhaust fitting out-fit. I would have to say that surely you would be able to "custom - fab" and possibly improve on this most excellent system ? There are some "450" 2-1x2-1 headers available...I'm also pretty sure that they're a standard fittment, at least to the pictures I've seen on the real early ones that lived within a 116 chassis. The early 107's retained a single pipe-runner due to lack of clearances. I think that you could easily find and fit these headers, as there's plenty of room within a 126. Good luck if you decide to search ! I can provide a photo if you like to prove this statement, but it would be "photo of a photo",and I couldn't guarantee the quality. No problems at all !

Cheers,

Rastus

Was going thru some photos the other night and I come across this

In my web ramblings I met a dude from a Mercedes forum in Scotland. This is the exhaust he was running and I was so impressed with it at the time, still am now. Just wondering what sort of headers he was running that had dual pipes off each manifold.

These pipes are so symmetrical and tucked ever so flawlessly. Just the hands down BEST W126 exhaust system I have even seen! I recall him saying he sells the kit, but I can recall what forum or his name. I am sure someone has to recognize this system because it has to be one of the best out there.

And what do they call them headers that have two outlets per side? Now thats just cool! This exhaust must sound / breathe like a dream!

I am not sure Rastus, this system is pretty damn good. Outside of bending it on a mandrel bender I can't really see where any improvements can be made, at least in terms from the manifold to the converter. It does appear to have a stock rear system which I feel keeps it somewhat quiet. Outside of a Roadster or a Coupe I think a loud exhaust is tacky on a Sedan.

I would imagine this system above provides the best of both worlds. Very impressive, yet still somewhat stealth I would imagine if not being heavy on the gas. That's not to say it would not have a more impressive sound at idle, just not over the top.

Then again, I never heard this system. We might need to get ahold of this guy and get some audio samples at idle and WOT. LOL!

It would go something like this... "Eh... Hum... Excuse me Sir, but could you please record your exhaust while idling and under WOT and them send me the audio files" LOL yeah, I won't hold my breath.

Hey SELLC,

Have you ever by-passed the main-mufflers and just ran straight to the rear-muffler ? I would nearly think that the car would still be quiet idling around town, but the opportunity to roar might just present itself out on the highway LOL ! At least the pipes would be running straight to the back, & that's actually got to help quite a bit. Very curious to find out the result... In fact, I had this in mind for my SLC once the centre-muffler ( resonator ) decides it's had enough, and just run straight through to the rear muffler...And when it finally dies, source an OEM 6.9 rear muffler, ( they've much larger diameter pipes ), and re-plum the rest of the system to suit if that set-up wasn't too noisey ! At least from the back everything would look standard LOL .

Cheers,

Rastus

Well it's not often that I quote myself, however I was leaving an opening for someone in this forum to go into detail about the performance exhaust headers/manifolds that were offered by Mercedes-Benz and AMG.

It toally shocks me to have to say this, but for once I have to give the thunder to Snibble who made this thread below,

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s-se-sec-sel-sd/1524265-amg-headers-vs-mercedes-ece-tri.html

While I don't usually promote the website above, I am one of them people who regardless how I may feel about someone or someplace; I will not allow that to prevent me from giving props when they are due. The thread above has some real "meat and potato" photos, complete with part numbers. While Snibbles collection of AMG and Performance Mercedes-Benz look to be the most nasty of the lot, he got the ball rolling for some other folks who spent the time and money to have these items "jet" coated. Jet coating has to be one of the coolest things since sliced bread.

So if you want to see some really cool exhaust header/manifold ideas to go along with the exhaust photo above, check out the link. While I have always thought the AMG headers were somewhat hookey-pooh looking it's still some pretty rare shit. Personally, for once, I have to agree with Snibble with regards to the Cast Iron Mercedes-Benz Tri-y's being the better of the two, in terms of design and overall quality, but I bet them AMG pipes have a really cool sound to them.

Those are the down pipes of a set of European 500-560 tri-y headers. I have seen the story on "another" forum.
