Syria

Well it's been said that almost 1500 people were killed by a chemical attack in Syria with almost 500 of them KIDS!

What's more? The smoking gun, also known as the "dead bodies" that were inspected by the UN suggest that chemical weapons were indeed used! So here we are, with another case of "let's go to war".

What shocks me more than anything is the fact that much like Iraq, where many Kurds were gassed to death; justified the invasion of Iraq which did not turn up any actual "WMD's". Of course we know for a fact "WMD's" were there in Iraq otherwise how in the hell would the Kurds have gotten gassed?

Yet we have Democrats today who all the while have been bashing Bush and the Iraq invasion for not turning up any "WMD's" fully backing Obama's Syrian war. So what happens when war breaks out in Syria and we find no WMD's? Well I would guess that Democrats would be saying what I have said all along about Iraq... Which is "No WMD's were found, but dead bodies turned up showing they had been killed by WMD's", so it goes without saying that WMD's were in Iraq, however they were never found.

What no-one has asked yet, and I find somewhat disturbing is the question of "is this nerve agent that was used on the Syrians the same stuff that was used on the Kurds in Iraq"? If so I think it's time to question what is going on here, and who the hell is really responsible. Many feel these chemical attacks are just a means to fatten the pockets of war profiteers and to be honest I can't say I doubt that, only this time it's on Obama's watch.

Obama's biggest problem on his hands with regards to going to war with Syria is the fact there was no 911 leading up to a Syrian invasion. Yes we were attacked in Libya on 9/11 and there is much controversy surrounding that attack, but it still does not invoke the kind of anger that Americans felt on 9/11 with an attack on the mainland in NYC. Without that I think Obama will have a VERY hard time getting the American people behind any sort of "Syrian Invasion". I got a feeling the Obama crew are well aware of this AND are thinking more along the lines of a surgical strike, much like what went down in Pakistan but on a much larger scale.

The REAL question is this - "Will blowing the shit out of Syria really help the people"? I can't imagine making an already devastated area worse by blowing up buildings and creating blight could help the people of Syria. And we have already learned that toppling dictators does not do anything but put a new face in place of the old one and often times the same or even worse results by the time all is said and done. Let's not forget that America usually gets suck footing the bill.

Add in the fact that Russia seems to want to Champion Syria and Iran's poor taste and you got yourself a situation that may be beyond Obama's cat and mouse - in and out style wars. The real question is WHY does Russia want to support these nations that would gas their own people? Because Russia has always been a piece of shit 3rd world nation. It's made even worse by the new President Putin who I feel is a serious racist who would stop at nothing to engage and embarrass the black dude in charge of the USA. Take for example Obama's open mic slip prior to re-election and the fact Russia is giving safe haven to the piece of shit traitor Snowden all the while leaking sensitive documents DAILY despite the conditions of his asylum laid out by Putin. Just goes to show Putin is full of shit and the guy looks like a inbreed retard with his less than 1 inch of skin between his eyes. I'd like to have 5 minutes in the boxing ring with that cock sucker!

But here we are, on the precipice of a new war that Obama claims should only take 2 days. LOL! We all know once we get sucked in that 2 days will turn into 2 years if not 10! And we should also not forget that along with Russia we have China, North Korea and Iran who are frothing at the mouth for America to bite off more than it can chew! Let's talk about that for a moment also... We have Detroit going bankrupt, National Debt at record levels, Possible Government shutdown come October (The Government will run out of money come October according to reports) and last but certainly not least the simple fact that should we get wrapped up in a war the USA will go even FURTHER into debt as my fellow Republicans will open up the purse and feed the Obama Administration all the money it wants for a chance to start a new war.

There seems to be a lot going on in the Middle East. It's getting to the point where I say we just let them people kill themselves off. We should be taking care of our business and letting them nations deal with their own problems. What if during the civil war another nation got involved in our fight? Is it really any of our business? Do we not have more pressing matters of our own?

In closing, I can only think about how silly the Obama Administration sounds when they talk silliness regarding nuclear arsenal reduction with the likes of Russia no less! It's a sad day when Americans start to feel duped by their elected officials and that's pretty much the tag line here... Obama and the Democrats had no problems faulting Bush on Iraq over WMD claims that only turned up dead bodies, but no actual weapons. The EXACT same scenario is unfolding before your eyes by a man who was elected for condemning our involvement in the Iraq war...

Yo SELLC,

You make some very good points ! Who's business is it ? Are they asking for help ? Why should the USA even get involved ?...I did hear that our OZ soldiers are up for consideration as a UN "peace-keeping" force...So at least this may buy you all some more time to consider the situation...I mean are Aussie-soldiers hated as much as US soldiers...? I personally have to agree that we all may be better-off to just let them kill-themselves-off, & maybe offer refugee status for those that choose to live...But where do we send the refugees ?

So you think we should let them fight it out then do business with whatever/whoever is left standing?

No one likes to hear about people being oppressed and kids getting gassed. I am pretty sure the USA does not have 7 Destroyers near by just to waste fuel.

I think Obama is going to give Assad a taste of his own Medicine and if he wants more we'll give it to him. The fact that it pisses off Russia is just icing on the cake! LOL

Hey SELLC,

Every kid is born with a "chance" in life, & as adults, it's our responsibility to ensure that the kids get a fair-crack at whatever they choose to do...But where do "our" responsibilities lie over in Syria ? Don't forget that these Muslim countries consider it an honour to die for the sake of Islam & in the name of Mohammed...If they've chosen this path for themselves along with their children, is it our task to intervene ? How many of our"peace-keepers" will die for Islams chosen way to deal with things ? I'm not saying I don't care about the situation or the people that are being needlessly killed,- especially the kids, but how do you make sense with people who are committed to sacrifice all for their damned & corrupted religion...It would seem to me that in their eyes, it's non of our business, & we should not get involved...Once again, these Islamic folks are only thinking of themselves, & forget that they share the world with others.

I think the people you are talking about have known and lived war for so long they don't know any other life.

I see Muslims here in the US that aren't too awful bad folks once taken out of the war torn environment. I think instability is created by the hard core Muslims intolerance of other peoples cultures. The Middle Eastern countries go back to biblical times but that's no excuse not to change with the times.

In a way I agree they should be left alone to deal with their own problems... However it would seem we have the Russians, China and North Korea filling the void should we just ignore them. Is that a good thing? No!

Seems to me that a red line was crossed. To not take action would undermine Iraq and other past actions that send a strong message that gassing people, even confused and war torn folks is NOT an option to dealing with a problem. The worst part is more people will die should we take action, so every effort must be taken to be surgical in any strike to limit or better yet prevent any innocent loss of life in our attempts to send a message to the bad guys. That's easier said than done but Obama has a few surgical success missions under his belt so I dont worry as much.. But Obama has not been tested in all out "boots" on the ground wars and thats very well where this may be going. It would be a mistake for Obama to think this is only a two day campaign because it could turn into a lot more. If he goes into this thing he better be prepared to state a specific goal, complete it and GTFO before things go to shit.

Only problem is I would imagine the Assad regime is moving its assets and items we would target to highly populated areas. This would create a problem for us but it would also show the cowardly position of the current regime to use its citizens as human shields... Then again they have no problem gassing them but we have to operate on a level that gives way to a more humane way of taking corrective action while respecting life. It's defiantly fucked up, hypocritical and somewhat crazy.... But that is War and that's what we will be waging should we take action.

Most of the times I bitch about Government, but in this case I am glad they have to deal with it and make the choices. I just hope they are the right ones.

And let's not forget... When America had its "Civil War" back in 1861-1865 we had good ole' Great Britain, France and others getting mixed up in our little scuffles... I think it was Great Britain that backed the Confederates, but of course I wasn't there. Just a short time before that we won our Independence from the British in 1776.

America is no stranger to war, and while we don't date back to biblical times it just seems obvious we are trying to help Syria. It's not like we are invading or have a history of trying to "take-over" countries. In every case with the exception of 1776 we have given back to the people every nation we have gotten militarily involved with. In fact often times we do re-build and invest before leaving which is why it cost the US so much money to wage war.

One thing is for sure, whoever set of that gas needs to pay! It would be an absolute slap in the face to find out the Syrian opposition gassed themselves, but if they were that desperate for help to do such a thing don't you feel our intervention was then long overdue? Some might even claim this is all just a very well executed chain of events to invoke anger between the USA and Russia in a greater scheme to have the worlds two largest super powers kill themselves.... I am here to say that is Bullshit and despite the camaraderie between the USA and Russia "Were not stupid fuckers and we didn't get here by mistake".

And heck, with the Republicans busy war mongering maybe Obama could get that train wreck of an insurance plan tweeked out! Cuz shit, I need meezz some helfcare nicca!

Yo SELLC,

I've even lived with some Muslims, & generally they're pretty-good people all-round, - ( back in the College-days when I was getting my engineers-ticket ), but you don't dare ever question their religion or beliefs, because then you'll see a surprizing turn-of-face make no mistake ! It's got to be really hard for them, because they initially come accross as very kind / gentle people that wouldn't hurt a fly, but then when some of their extremist folks do something (often) really stupid that involves killing people etc, they're left torn between being passifists & soldiers ! What a shit-life & even worse religion to be bound too ! I have nothing against them & am not a racist, but it would be really stupid not to recognise the problems of what being involved with a terrible religion like that imposes on every-one...And then we're all asked to give them special-consideration, because they're Muslim...Why ?...Who's more stupid, them or us for allowing their "beliefs" mess so many people-up ?...

You've raised some very interesting points about the current state of affairs in Syria, not to mention your own Civil War, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that not-too-many people are needlessly killed in the name of ....( help me I'm lost here...what are they fighting over exactly ?.. ), -and that all this BS ends sooner than later ! I agree that it's good to have people in power to make these crappy decisions, so at least we can get on with our own lives knowing that we tried to help-out as best we could, whilst hopefully showing them that there is another way forward, but I would say that you've got it right SELLC when you pointed out that these poor folks have known nothing but the horrors of war for many generations.

Let's just keep chipping away LOL !

Don't kid yourself PowerStroker, the circumstances are exactly the same with Syria as they were with Iraq; dead bodies as a result of chemical weapons. Only this time it's your boy Obama who is starting a war and NOT Bush.

At least in Bush's case he set out a clear objective and accomplished his mission. I might also add Mr. Bush had congressional approval and overwhelming support of the citizens of this nation, something Obama has been lacking in his past few skirmishes (Africa, Libya and Egypt).

PowerStroker has managed to totally leave out any mention of Syria or Obama in his response to this thread. His off topic ramblings are a reflection of just how fucked up the Democratic Party has become. PowerStroker is bitter and angry and instead of placing blame where it belongs, he goes back to beating the Bush.

Just face it PowerStroker, your party is trying to start WWIII and ignorant people like yourself should be held accountable. You should start debating the merits of THIS crisis currently at hand or STFU because I am tired of your lame attempts to blame Republicans for something the Democrats are doing! Bush has been out of office for almost 6 years! You have no one to blame but yourselves.

Yes I am a flag waving patriot! I'll support America thru thick and thin and the Wisdom Bush possessed in one of his pinky toes exceeds that of Obamas entire collective body! Internationally it has been proven that Obama has lost the respect of the international community. Take Great Brittan for example; a country that once said "An attack on America is an attack on Great Brittan" is now reclusive when it comes to America. Russian relations have NEVER been at such a low that I can remember. Long standing allies from Poland to Israel have all but been kicked to the curb. MASSIVE internal government leaks (Snowden and Manning) have all but destroyed relations with Germany and other nations. Egypt and Libya in total shambles! And this is just on an International stage!

Back here at home in the USA we have a train wreck of a healthcare law, a sequester, looming government shutdown next month (October), people seeking welfare at the highest rates EVER recorded, and the national debt the highest it's ever been!

This whole Democrat love affair with Obama reminds me of the "Honeymoon is over downs" horserace.

I seem to recall Bush citing Iraq's involvement in 911 as the reason for our going to war with them. Then when it was clear that there was no link between Saddam and 911 whatsoever - which the vast majority of our intelligence community had been telling him all along, he then pivoted to weapons of mass destruction as a justification. Then, when those weapons of mass destruction turned out to only consist of some old stockpiles of chemical weapons from the 80's that had deteriorated to their original chemical state and could no longer be used as weapons... Wait, help me out, what was his justification then, I seem to have forgotten. Oh yeah, war profiteering, and establishing US military bases around the worlds oil supply. Oil we'll still pay full price for anyway.

So an asshole in Afghanistan knocks down a couple billion dollars worth of buildings and kills a few thousand people in New York. Then we spend a few TRILLION dollars and a few thousand more American lives, not to mention hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives punishing that country for something they had nothing to do with.

Did it make you feel better? Did it make you feel like a flag waving patriot? Do you think the word wisdom will ever be used to describe Bush or his cronies?

I had to single out and quote the above paragraph.

The only thing I can say about that statement above is.... "WOW"

What a pathetic way of trying to summarize an event that cost many lives. It puts in perspective the true mindset of the Democrats. Pathetic is being too kind if you ask me!

I'm not sure what do do about Syria, I'm going to wait for the UN report in a couple weeks that will determine for sure whether chemical weapons were used. If that report comes back positive, I would support lobbing some bombs at the Assad regeme, but I would not support any American soldiers on the ground whatsoever.

So now Obama is a war monger? I thought you used to not like him because he wasn't hawkish enough?

Obama never stated that any action in Syria is brought about due to a connection to 911, for that would be a lie - just like it was a lie when Bush said Saddam had something to do with 911, and used that lie to get his congressional approval that you seem to tout so much. Nevermind Obama is asking congress for a vote on any Syria action too, but that fact doesn't fit with your premise that Obama is some kind of war monger so I'll let you ponder that one for a while.

By the way, our national debt isn't the highest it's ever been. Adjusted for inflation it's far less than it was during WW2 when we mortgaged more than 100% of our GDP in order to pay for the war. Currently our debt is about 90% of GDP, which is manageable... Not ideal, but manageable, and the rate of debt increase is slowing under Obama. Once Obamacare is implemented, and the wars are brought to an end you will see a much better balance sheet for the govt.

Well we're all looking forward to seeing that "much better" balance sheet PowerStroker.

Seems Russia has an interest in Syria and I have always felt if the Russians cared so much then they should be the ones to do something about Syria. After all it's their back yard; if they cant or won't perform then at least they know we will.  This proposed giving up of chemical weapons could either save a bunch of life, time and money or it could turn out to be a big fucking mess that gets everyone even more pissed off. I'd say a little bit of both but I am sure the situation is far from over. The real question is what IF it's the Rebels who did it? How the hell do we respond to that? Well I guess we can cross that bridge when we get there because this whole situation hinges on a bunch of "What-If's".

Regardless, I think Syria is aware of what "Red-Line" means. I see no shame in walking back an attack if Assad is going to ante up with his chemical weapons. I don't like some of the photos I have seen especially the size of the refugee camps! It's amazing how big they are! There is defiantly a problem in Syria and I'd MUCH rather see THEM deal with it than us. I just hope Assad can live up to it!

And PowerStroker, with regards to this healthcare implementation, could you maybe show us some of the "affordable" insurance plans currently being cooked up? It would be very interesting to see the cost of such things and what sort of coverage you get. I got a feeling it's going to be crap but I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised either. You would think this sort of information would be posted everywhere, but nope... It's required but who the hell knows what your getting and how much. Guess we just need to buy the insurance to see whats in it huh? I don't really care for that plan.

How about Palin calling this way back in 2008?

Palin Mocked In 2008 For Warning Putin May Invade Ukraine

Yes, I could see this one from Alaska. I'm usually not one to Told-Ya-So, but I did, despite my accurate prediction being derided as an extremely far-fetched scenario by the high-brow Foreign Policy magazine. Heres what this stupid insipid woman predicted back in 2008: "After the Russian Army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama's reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia's Putin to invade Ukraine next."-Sarah Palin

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin warned that if Senator Barack Obama were elected president, his "indecision" and "moral equivalence" may encourage Russia's Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine.
Palin said then:

After the Russian Army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama's reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia's Putin to invade Ukraine next.

For those comments, she was mocked by the high-brow Foreign Policy magazine and its editor Blake Hounshell, who now is one of the editors of Politico magazine.
In light of recent events in Ukraine and concerns that Russia is getting its troops ready to cross the border into the neighboring nation, nobody seems to be laughing at or dismissing those comments now.

Hounshell wrote then that Palin's comments were "strange" and "this is an extremely far-fetched scenario."

"And given how Russia has been able to unsettle Ukraine's pro-Western government without firing a shot, I don't see why violence would be necessary to bring Kiev to heel," Hounshell dismissively wrote.

Palin made her remarks on the stump after Obama's running mate Joe Biden warned Obama supporters to "gird your loins" if Obama is elected because international leaders may test or try to take advantage of him.

I don't see how the water could be so nice considering in 2017 the USA's interest on the national debt will exceed the budget for Medicade, and by 2020 the interest payments alone will be more than our defense budget.

If the water is nice for the Democrats right now, it's about to get real shitty!

Thanks PowerStroker, some good-news at last...Well, at least it had a better out-come so-far than SELLCS little clip by-the-pool, that also coinsidently displayed the problems associated with Obamacare & the peoples response...

The news stories that followed your up-date don't look so flash though...Once again, the state of affairs over there resembles that very same pool that SELLC posted, with the only difference being that the folks living there choose to stay in that pool...

It just seems like the Russians are having their way with Obama, first with Syria and most recently with the former Ukraine (Crimera). All the while our vacuum left from our withdrawal in Iraq is being filled by Iran. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing but given the amount of money spent in Iraq it's hard to find any wisdom in these moves from a strategic standpoint, at least for America.

On the other side of that coin is the fact we dont have our people over there, and no war. I think most people are fed up with war, and I'd tend to agree with them. But something tells me it just don't work that way, and it may end up hurting our influence in the region, which may see us back at it anyway.

You're right about the Russians SELLC...Just when the world was calming down about Irans Nuclear Power Program, & its ability to enrich uranium for weapons use was curbed by the West, the Russians are now Irans official consultants into the operation & maintenance of their power-station...

What does that mean ? You'll have to figure it out yourselves LOL, since we're not going to ever be told about the real reasons why...

You just have to love how this world gets crazier & crazier I think...

Just seems to me whenever the US finishes it's wars, Russia is right there to take their turn.

IIRC, when Russia pulled out of their war in Afghanistan, we were right there to pick up where they left off. You have to wonder if that's whats going to happen again when we leave?

I could go on and on, but it seems I already have threads more specific to my ranting. I think I'll give them a bump.

WoW! I swear you couldn't make this shit up if you tried!

Pretty much, this exact time last year Obama was wanting to go it alone in Syria, if need be... The UK snubbed him, the Republicans snubbed him, the Democrats didn't seem to give him much support, and even I wasn't too keen on the idea without congressional approval.

Now, Fast Forward to September 2014.... The UK has raised their threat level due to the ISIS in Syria, the Republicans want to invade Syria, The Democrats are claiming they want to go into Syria without Obama's support, and even I am just as confused as I was a year ago!

WTF is going on!?

Hi SELLC,

I've been a little out-of-touch with it all, but I'd say that once the body-count reaches a certain threshold, & people have had time to think & digest all the "facts", things pick-up momentum ?...Maybe the fact that nothing "effective" has been done yet by anybody, that it's considered time to do so...As long as every-one agrees to share the responsibility of-course...

I'm not so sure Rastus... Awhile back Obama wanted to move on Syria, but it was the Russians who stood behind them, insisting that Bashure (SP?) was left alone and in power. Now it would seem this group that calls themselves ISIS has come from out of nowhere, literally out of "thin air". This group ISIS just so happens to be out of Syria! Or so they say...

Did Obama's backing off his Red Line embolden the Russians who then formed ISIS, or at least fed them money and weapons? For ISIS to have come up so fast it only stands to reason they had help. I don't know what to make of it, except to say there is a new boogie man in town... The Tallaban according to Biden is no longer an enemy "per se", and Alquida seems to have lost its leader, Ossama, and is now considered "out dated". But who knows!

Hey folks,

I found this interesting article, written by an Australian Independent Journalist, which means that he's not being paid by the war criminals themselves...Here's what he has to say, & you'll soon see the relevance, & why it's now necessary to update this horrible thread from an Australian point-of-view...(I have not to my knowledge modified this text in any way).

Edwin Dash, Independent Journalist...

qt. "My gravest concern as an Australian Independent Journalist is my country's complicity in the Obama's Administrations stance on the Syrian situation, which I believe has the potential to escalate into W.W.-III...As many of you may be aware, Australia has been appointed President of the United Nations Security Council, from September the 1st, & will lead international debate into the worsening Syrian Crisis"...

"Our role in this debacle & Obama farce, is unforgivable, & I can only hope & pray Americans unite to impeach Obama for not only his unwarranted provocation, but for all other committed crimes while in office".

"His alleged connexions with the Muslim Brotherhood will hopefully be brought to light in time before his plans to plunge the world into further chaos & destruction succeed".

EDashNews.

Cheers,

Rastus

NB. It seems he has a few things correct, even naming Obama as responsible...But we all know Obama is a puppet, & it's just the way his strings were pulled whilst on his watch...

Look at all the people leaving Syria! They say actions speak louder than words...

Russia claims to be helping Syria rid the nation of ISIS, and if that were the case why are so many people leaving Syria? Could it be that all these people fleeing Syria have ties to ISIS and thus are leaving because they know Russia isn't going to tolerate any such BS? I mean what other reason could their be?

Why are people leaving Syria if Russia is there to rid the country of ISIS? It would seem to me Russia has already done a great job! The only problem is where are these Syrians going and what will they do when they get there?

The fact that so many people are leaving Syria, causing a migration crisis, really underscores the poor job Russia and Syria's Government has done.

Hey SELLC,

You raise some good points, & I can't answer any of them, only speculate....

However, in less than 24hrs of Australia's new by "coup-det-at" Prime Minister, the first air-strikes by AUSTRALIAN AIR-FORCE FIGHTERS have started in Syria...Do you call that peaceful negotiations from the new Presidents of peace on the United Nations board ?...If all this proves anything, it's that we are governed by hidden powers...

Perhaps the people leaving know they're ****ed if they stay, but have a chance if they flee ?

Cheers,

Rastus

No... They would have left much sooner...

This migration seems almost organized, like an invasion if you will. As the migration moves across nations it picks up more and more people... Who knows if the migration is only to mask the movement of an army. I am sure there is a mix, but either way they're no longer Syria's or Russia's problem anymore.

It's crazy when you think back to March 2011 ( not Fukushima ), Syria's conflict basically began with anti-Government demonstrations...

And now after a bloody crackdown by the ruling regime, it has spiraled into a multi-front civil war, & has already left over 240,000 people dead...

The question for me remains however, "What would Russia's position be today, if we the "West" didn't stick our noses in" ?...And if Russia was meant to be broke, where'd they get the money from ?...Not the same World bank that gives money to the Federal Reserve ?...

I'd sooner leave the place now, than start a lengthy decade-plus war for no reason...But then I don't have shares in the Carlyle Group, or any World bank that I know of...

It seems to me that all of this has just been turned into a fiasco, to feed the greed of the Industrial Military Complex. ( Again & again & again & again & again.....).

Rastus

Russia has now sent a few jet fighters to Syria, in an effort to show support to the current government..."Gentlemen start your engines"...

A Russian jet fighter also entered Japan air-space for no apparent reason, though the Russians can't confirm that it did & are investigating the alleged occurrence. ( I bet they went no where near Fukushima )...

Hello folks,

I have to admit to being a little confused here...& have to ask you all, has a secret deal been struck between the US-of-A & Russia in dividing up the countries resources when the "war"(?) is over ?....This is what the latest news headline reads here in Oz...

"Russia & the US-of-A are set to renew talks to avoid accidents in Syrian air space, as the two countries conduct separate bombing campaigns"...

So, as I see it, here we all agree that...

1. There is a civil war in Syria, that's been going on for a long while now with over 250,000 people dead, that started basically over anti-government demonstrations.

2. We're all worried about the possibility of WW-III happening since there's US-of-A & Russian involvement, with both superpowers supporting different sides.

3. And now, there are talks happening to hopefully arrange a time-table between the superpowers, so that they don't interfere with each others bombing campaigns...

WTF ?....This is fucking crazy LOL !!!

Rastus

If Russia is working with the USA it's only because of a secret side deal between Putin and Obama to bring down America!

Sorry to say it's not going to work.
