Some-times pushing down on your trunk will help release the catch when turning the key. If the catch or something is out of alignment, you should hear / feel it release when pushing down.

Will this have to do with any electrical issue? Even I am tried to open the trunk manually?

It's a difficult thing to determine over the net, especially when the car could be fixed/diagnosed etc in a few minutes if it was here in the flesh ! Possibly it is an electronic issue, as I've seen these vehicles boots open, close, & lock themselves from the push of a little button, though if there is a key-hole to use manually, you would think that this would over-ride that system in the event of a flat battery(s) ! Was your boot working correctly in the past, or is this something that's "just" stopped working ? Are all the other automated/electronic systems working OK ? Does you spare key open the boot when used ? Either way, unless SELLC or gerryvz can offer you a suggestion, you're going to have to take it to someone ! Best of luck.

I have dealt extensively with this system and the retractable hard tops on the SL's.

Seems the retractable roof and soft close trunk ect. are all at play even with the simple opperation of opening and closing the trunk. As you already know the trunk folds back to hide away the roof and any series of sensors that notice something is out of wack can cause the trunk not to open. There is a mechanical latch on the other side of that key hole, and I have photos but it may be best for you to check fuses first.

And of course you can get a look at one of the systems (door locks) that is in play when trying to open the trunk at this link here

I am not quite sure the exact problem with your vehicle, but I can say this system is quite complicated with a lot going on. It may be more than some can muster, but by all means feel free to share your findings.

Thank you for all your feedback. You are  probably right about the possibility of been something electronic I did notice that my rote will not open the doors or the trunk. I tried to luck the doors from the car and also did not work. I live in Austin and if any one knows how to fix it i'll be walking to pay someone. I have my car at the body shop to install the body kit but, on less inopenthe trunk it will be a no go :(..

i also verified all all three fuse boxes..

thank hank you for everyone's help and taking time to replay my postno

If I remove the door inside cover from the driver side and provide direct voltage to the trunk bottom will this overpass the signal and open the trunk? Again, I have zero experience on this system.

Thank you in advance for your help!

By lowering the top it should flip back the trunk so you can access the trunk. From there there is a button you can push that will unlach the trunk, however it will look a little strange. From there you have to check everything to find out what is the problem. Did you try that?

I have not tried your suggestion yet, I'll try to do it tomorrow. I'm just not sure how to lower the top? The top, doors or trunk will not unlock with the remote or from inside the car.  do you have a procedure to do it?

thx!no

Sounds like your vacuum pump has failed for the cars door locks, much like in this thread -

http://autotrend.activeboard.com/t53161273/sl500-mercedes-benz-r230-convertible-hard-top-door-locks-tru/

It sounds like, if you don't know how to lower the top; then you have not owned this vehicle for very long. I find this somewhat amazing, but whatever... Sometimes cars pick their owners...

Here is a video of how the SL's hard top retracts-

Also, here are a few photos that show the trunk open, and the latch mech. behind the panel.

Here we GO.

I have just about gone crazy with this problem.. I have already verify all fuse boxes, remove all the back covers inside the back of the car.. I am trying to see if I can open the trunk from the inside the car.. is that possible??

I have also remove the driver side door panel to verify the trunk switch operation and it's working well, Its betting power and the signal is coming in...

Any help to resolve this it will bre great :)

I find that rather odd... Considering the entire locking system runs off vacuum.

The switch itself may have and be sending a signal but it's the pump, which is located in the trunk, that actually actuates the lock mechs by way of vacuum.

You should follow the instructions in the link above as it appears you have a bad vacuum pump. Have you retracted the top to gain access to the trunk yet? I don't see how I can be of much more help, as this seems pretty straight forward.

I should also mention that on the Key (Which is not really a key but an infared style setup) there is an old school key that slips in and out of the key/fob at the top when you slide the little latch over. This key should allow you to manually pop the trunk and is a traditional Mercedes key and you might not even notice it unless you look closely.

I am assuming you already knew about this, but it dawned on me that perhaps you have only been using the remote portion of the key/fob to open the trunk.

Thank you fo your reply..

Here's what I found the problem was... After working on this issue for the past 3 days it was the mechanical trunk lit roasthmatic was not connected to the latch. I had to remove the lic. Plate lights out first, after remove the two screws for the break light 3. Remove carefully the break ligh from the trunk.

From there I was Abel to see the mechanical latch assembly and open the trunk...

Now I have to find out why my remote do not work for the doors, top and trunk.. Maybe bad battery or pump?

Any way to verify??

Thank you for everyone's help!!

Well you did mention the car was in an wreck so maybe that is how the latch mech come seperated?

Sounds like you may have a damaged vacuum pump also if you are having problems with the power locks not working. Maybe that took some damage in the wreck too?

Anyway, glad to hear you got it half way sorted. Keep us posted on what you find on the locks.

I want to say the least expensive I have seen one is $400

But perhaps they have come down since then.

Even still, most places will charge $800 and the dealership I think it cost $1200+

Then again, we are talking about a $120,000+ roadster... I wish you the best of luck my friend, seems like you are motivated and I have no doubt that soon enough it will be in top order.
