Unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs, said Ocasio-Cortez in an interview on PBS Firing Line with Margaret Hoover in July when pressed on why the unemployment rate was low in a capitalist system. Unemployment is low because people are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week and can barely feed their kids.

In the same interview, Ocasio-Cortez also referred to the situation in Palestine as an occupation by Israel.

When Hoover asked Ocasio-Cortez to clarify her position after pointing out the term occupation was controversial, Ocasio-Cortez, who graduated with a bachelors degree in economics and international relations from Boston University, struggled to explain her comment.

I am not the expert on geopolitics on this issue, Ocasio-Cortez said. You know, for me, Im a firm believer in finding a two-state solution on this issue.

In another interview, speaking with former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett on the liberal podcast Pod Save America, Ocasio-Cortez claimed the upper-middle class doesnt exist anymore.

Ocasio-Cortez was discussing the political ideology of the countrys different socioeconomic classes when she made the claim:

I think that politically, this upper-middle class is probably more moderate, but that upper-middle class doesnt exist anymore in America, and thanks to the continued deregulation of Wall Street, thanks to the continued gutting of working- and middle-class people, we need stronger champions.

However, both the Urban Institute, and the American Enterprise Institute have presented evidence showing the upper-middle class is actually growing.

When asked in an interview with Jorge Ramos last week about how to pay for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-V.T., Medicare for All proposal, which Ocasio-Cortez has put at the center of her campaign, Ocasio-Cortez responded, You just pay for it. She continued: 

People often say, how are you gonna pay for it? And I find the question so puzzling because, how do you pay for something thats more affordable? How do you pay for cheaper rent? How do you pay foryou just pay for it.

During this election cycle, Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive Democrats like Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who lost the Florida gubernatorial race, have claimed Sanders Medicare for All plan would save the country $2 trillion if implemented, but the claim has been criticized by fact-checkers as inaccurate.

In fact, a study by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University shows the plan would cost more than $32.6 trillion over 10 years, requiring historic tax hikes.

According to Fox News, Ocasio-Cortez declared at a campaign fundraiser there was no debate that fossil fuel production should be stopped.

When asked by Chris Hayes on MSNBC about what she plans to do once she gets to Congress in two months, Ocasio-Cortez struggled to develop a coherent response and failed to offer any specifics. Instead, Ocasio-Cortez delivered this message on air:

Well, I think a lot of it has to do with changing our strategy around governance. You know theres a lot of inside baseball and inside the beltway as you, you always hear that term thrown around. But there are very few organizers in Congress. And I do think that organizers operate differently. Its a different kind of strategy. And what it is, is really about organizing and, and really thinking about that word: organizing. Segmenting people. Being strategic in their actions in really bringing together a cohesive strategy of putting pressure on the chamber instead of only focusing on the pressures inside the chamber.

To which Hayes responded, Thats a really interesting thought.

I just read CNN's lawsuit against the administration over Jim Acosta. It's a very weak case, but if they get before an Obama or Clinton district judge, who knows. CNN hired Ted Olson's firm, and he has signed onto the lawsuit. Olson was hired for a few reasons: 1. As a former Reagan official and lawyer for Bush in Bush-Gore, CNN hopes to make the PR case that this a bipartisan matter; 2. CNN hopes to make the PR case that it is upholding the Constitution against a rogue administration; and, 3. CNN has employed a top Supreme Court litigator.

Nonetheless, it is a ridiculous suit. CNN still has reporters at the White House and in the presidential press conferences; Acosta does not have a constitutional right to be physically present in the press room, anymore than the scores of media outlets that do not; Acosta can watch the press conference from outside the White House grounds as they are televised; the president cannot be compelled by any court to actually call on any particular reporter during a press conference; Acosta does not have a constitutional right to disrupt the press conference with his various antics anymore than any other reporter; and, a president is not constitutionally compelled to hold a presidential press conference. The courts should stay out of this on separation of powers grounds, among other things. No one is preventing Acosta from reporting or CNN from broadcasting.

MSNBC host Joy Reid suggested Saturday that the outpouring of Republican criticism of Broward County Board of Elections supervisor Brenda Snipes is driven by racism.

In all fairness, things must be kind of hard for former President Barack Obama. Every candidate he endorsed in battleground states during the midterms lost, and Democratic Party leaders are starting to distance themselves from their once universally adored leader.
Its not easy going from the most loved person on Earth (according to the media) to someone almost no one cares about anymore, so on that point we sympathize with the former commander-in-chief.
But heres the thing, and Bill Clinton might want to listen as well: when your time is up, your time is up. The Democratic Party was handed its own backside in the immediate aftermath of Obamas presidency. In many ways, Donald Trump rose to power because working class Americans were so disillusioned with the former presidents brand of politics. Think about it: Trump and Obama could not be more opposite in terms of both policy and personality if they tried and they certainly do.
The Democratic Party did pick up significant ground in the 2018 midterm elections, but its rebranding effort isnt finished yet. Outside of deep blue districts, hard-left progressives were routed in every single election. If they want a repeat of 2016 in 2020, theyll let the former president remain the face of their party. Perhaps thats what Republican voters should be hoping for

At a press conference outlining his party's legislative prioriites, Sen. Schumer said Democrats are fighting for real reforms, like allowing everybody to vote. Everybody, Schumer reiterated.

He, then, twice called it despicable to excluding anyone from voting:

The Trump Administration is the most ethically-challenged in history. From the president to his cabinet, and congressional Republicans have backed up that swamp all the way.
Were going to fight for real reforms, to loosen the grip of special interests in Washington and to let everybody vote. Everybody - not stand in the way of people voting, which is a despicable, despicable thing for people to do. Its against the wellspring of our democracy.
We hope our colleagues in the House will have success in passing bills like this. We will be relentless here in the Senate in pressuring Senator McConnell and Republicans in the Senate to put them on the floor or pay the consequences.
The American people voted for Democrats last week on the strength of our ideas. Senate Democrats are committed to make those ideas a reality in this upcoming Congress.

Stormy Daniels Attorney Michael Avenatti was arrested today after his estranged wife filed a felony domestic violence report. TMZ reports Avenattis wifes face was swollen and bruised. The alleged incident occurred yesterday but there was a confrontation Wednesday between the two at an exclusive apartment building in the Century City area of L.A. Its being reported that Avenattis wife ran out of the building and was on the sidewalk screaming on the phone, I cant believe you did this to me.

Avenatti filed for divorce from his wife last year after being married for 7 years.

Were told Avenatti is currently in custody.

In court documents, however, Avenattis wife described him as emotionally abusive and lacking control over his anger sharply contrasting the image of himself he has presented to the public while representing Daniels in her legal battles against President Donald Trump.

In the past couple of days youve heard a lot of huffing and puffing about free speech and freedom of the press, and how those threats are currently imperiled by the White House.

To be clear: we are for free speech. Unfettered, absolute free speech, the kind guaranteed by the first amendment and ratified consistently by the Supreme Court.

Weve defended that kind of speech almost every night here for the past two years. Many others, mostly on the left, have attacked it. We know whos for it, and whos against it. And we cant help but notice that some of free speechs greatest enemies are now posing as its defenders.

Take CNN, for example. It was CNN that almost single-handedly led the campaign to have broadcaster Alex Jones banished from the internet, on the grounds that they didnt like what Jones had to say. CNN ultimately succeeded in that. The network convinced every major tech platform to ban Jones and his outlet, InfoWars. You dont have to like Alex Jones to see that as a terrifying loss for free speech, because it was.

CNN wasnt done trying to silence its critics. Last year, the cable network threatened an anonymous Reddit user for creating an anti-CNN meme. They threatened to expose his identity and ruin his life if he ever criticized them again. Now CNN is claiming to defend speech. Only when its their speech.

Notice that CNN didnt object when the government threatened to imprison employees of the cable channel RT if they didnt register as foreign agents. Yes, RT is owned by a foreign government.

So is the BBC. Until last year, much of the New York Times was owned by a foreign national. This is true of other news organizations, none of which have ever registered as a foreign agents. But because RT is owned by Russia, which the left believes got Donald Trump elected, its OK with CNN if theyre bullied and silenced.

So call CNN what you will. But dont pretend their defenders of the first amendment.
