w126 r107 trans case differences


i have a customer that needs a trans for his 560sec. i have a 560sl trans. i dont have a w126 gen 2 trans here to measure the crirtical bits like cooler fitting locations and mount boss location. anyone ever tried this swap?

Hello & welcome,

As long the transmission is for a 560 motor, the internals will be strong enough, & gear ratios fine.

I haven't ever done a swap like this, or even worked on these transmissions for a number of years, but IMO, it's a safe swap, & when the new owner receives the transmission, any bits that need swapping over for clearances & pipe fittings etc ( if any ) can be viewed when side-by-side, & easily swapped over.

It's possible that the modulator-cell is different in its sensitivity settings from a 126 to 107 ( The modulator-cell determines the quality of shift ( harsh or soft )), & is also different internally, so I'd likely swap this part at least over. It will only need a new "O"- ring fitted.


It never hurts to replace the front & rear seals whilst the transmission is out either, along with a new oil-filter & pan gasket etc. This also lets you view any clutch / band particles accumulated in the sump.

As long as both vehicles have the "B" position gear selector option, linkages & any electrical wiring should be identical & fit straight-up.

The R107, 560 motors were reduced in power out-put from the factory, by a few KW for memory, just to stop excess wheel-spin...
