I been nursing a bottle of White Label - Johnnie Walker GOT (Game of thrones) White Walker Special Edition the past few days... Have a half a bottle left!

Stuff is not bad @ $42 per bottle. It is special edition so I suppose it would be a good gift idea for Christmas but I wanted to be sure and try it before I gifted it. LOL

I am pretty impressed, warm the stuff has a very bold but familiar Johnnie Walker taste - but it recommends to chill - freeze even - Get it, White Walker Frozen?!

So I tried a few shots the next night at refrigerator temperature which is pretty cold and it has a very nice taste, plus the colder temps must activate something in the alcohol because it finishes with a cool frosty sensation, cooler than that of the drink at refrigerator temperatures.

I have placed the bottle in the freezer and I am going to try it at below freezing temps and report back.

I've frozen a few too, or chilled in the fridge. seems to make any booze better! I'm a straight up drinker, no mix, no ice. Chilled a bit is nice.

Oh please bitch, though I will admit I have been avoiding alcohol for a while. You see, last season of Moonshiners I was inspired to pick up a jar of apple pie moonshine to enjoy while I watch Shawnee's neighbors make the stuff on tv. I also had chocolate cake at the same time. Well about 1/3 of the way through the bottle (80 proof) that chocolate cake became really crumbly and I ended up wearing most of it. So Princess Puts did what any girlfriend would do, she got the vacuum out and cleaned me up.

Was that apple pie moonshine made with real moonshine from Shawnees neighbors or was it made with Everclear grain alcohol?

I dont think you can buy straight up moonshine or any flavored variants on the market. Ive seen what youre talking about in stores PowerStroker, but never had the balls to try any.

And FYI - real moonshine is around 150+ proof.

At 80 proof it was probably made with Gin or Bacardi.

LOL,

80-proof can still be a fine & enjoyable drink. It kind of allows you to see the night out a little longer.

I'm still enjoying my bonded at 100-proof...They changed the bottle-shape & label completely recently, & I nearly cried lol...But it's still the real deal...2 x stiff drinks, & a great nights sleep is awarded lol ! (Not for parties).

I'm sure it was the commercialized version, it was sold in a liquor store after all, but it was more than enough to do the job.

Yup, they make the real deal around here. Had a shot last week, very smooth. I like shine made with rye, harder to do got to sprout the grain. Plenty commercial shines on the market here, not bad but not the real deal.

Clarity you reminded me got some champagne in a fridge door been chilling year.

Commercial is not that bad. I haven't tried the fruity ones but the straight up are OK. Not as smooth as the real deal. I see a 93 proof in there, looks they are corn like they sposed ta be. Yes the real deal is generally higher, some shiners cut it some with spring water to get the right size bubbles when shook (tells proof) I have had "Junior Johnsons"

Tim from the moonshiner show (fire chief) went legit. It's available in some states, forget what he calls it. Oh yeah, what else! Climax moonshine!

http://www.climaxmoonshine.com/  ,,,his site http://timsmithmoonshine.com/

Moonshine, the fiery Southern Spirit, has gone legit. Here are some of our favorites to come out of the woodwork.

Moonshine

The growing trend of craft moonshine distilleries is keeping the South in good spirits.

The South is no stranger to small-batch spirits. Moonshiners were microdistilling long before such a word existed. The clear (often questionable) spirit was available only if you knew someone who knew someone. But the landscape of legal moonshine has changed dramatically. Now, this grain distillate sits conspicuously in storesall taxes paid. And according to the American Distilling Institute, the number of craft distilleries is growing by 30% each year. Here are some of our favorite moonshines to come out of the woodwork. And they actually taste good.

Best Legal Moonshines
1. Troy & Sons Platinum (Asheville, NC) This is one of the few whiskeys made with Appalachian spring water and heirloom corn, specifically Crooked Creek, an open-pollinated white corn from the 1840s. The resulting product is smooth, with hints of oaky vanillaunusual in an un-aged spirit. ashevilledistilling.com

2. Prichards Lincoln County Lightning (Kelso, TN) With an agave-like aroma, this 90-proof white corn whiskey has a salty, grassy taste. prichardsdistillery.com

3. Buffalo Trace White Dog Mash #1 (Frankfort, KY) The strongest of the lot, at 125 proof, this raw whiskeywhich grows up to become Buffalo Trace bourbondelivers an authentic moonshine burn punctuated with notes of sweet corn and malt. buffalotrace.com

4. Platte Valley Corn Whiskey (Weston, MO) This ones clean, light, and bright, with a subtle pear and vanilla finish. Though sometimes hard to find, its easy to recognize on the shelf: it comes in a distinctive earthenware jug. mccormickdistilling.com

5. Virginia Lightning (Culpeper, VA) With a chewy sweetness, its like corn right off the cob. We think this one goes especially well in cocktails. virginiamoonshine.com

6. Junior Johnsons Midnight Moon (Madison, NC) Based on the legendary shiner and NASCAR legends family recipe, its triple distilled and cut to 80 proof for a smooth, vodka-like sipping spirit. piedmontdistillers.com

7. Stills Crossroads Alabama Shine (Union Springs, AL) The first legal distilled spirit in Alabama since Prohibition, this 100-proof shinedistilled in a former horse barnhas a subtle sweetness. highridgespirits.com

8. Popcorn Suttons Tennessee White Whiskey (Nashville, TN) Made using the recipe of fabled shiner Popcorn Sutton, this 93 proof corn and sugar likker hits the sweet-spicy balance with a punch. Its what we hope really, really good backyard moonshine used to be. popcornsuttonswhiskey.com
