Private businesses showing govt is not needed in every aspect of our lives?

The Shutdown Is Providing Evidence Of Private Businesses Making Government Obsolete

By Mac Slavo

The government shutdown is just providing more evidence that the government itself is unnecessary. Private companies in the Yellowstone area are voluntarily paying to keep the park clean without federal funding.

According to Reason, nearly three weeks into the government shutdown, some of Americas national parks are starting to get a bit rank. Access to the parks (which are supposedly owned by the people who think they are the government) is free since there are no employees to collect the typical $35-per-vehicle entrance fee. But that comes with the trade-off of there being no employees to empty trash bins or clean toilets either.

Meanwhile, without being forced by the government, private companies are voluntarily paying to keep Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming clean. National Public Radio reports, local businesses are chipping in to make sure the bathrooms get cleaned, the roads get plowed, and the tourists keep coming. Even in the middle of winter, the park gets an estimated 20,000 visitors per monthand those hardy folks want to rent snowmobiles, hire tour guides, and take sightseeing trips. The private-sector businesses that thrive on those tourist dollars have a pretty strong incentive to make sure Yellowstone remains accessible much more incentive than the government has.

This is what voluntary interaction looks like.  Not one single person is forcing these companies to pay for snow plowing; however, because it is in their best interests, they have decided to foot the bill. Xanterra Parks and Resorts, which runs the only hotels inside Yellowstone that remain open during the winter, is leading the effort to cover the $7,500 daily tab for keeping the roads plowed and the snowmobile trails groomed during the shutdown, NPR further reports. Thirteen other private businesses that offer tours of the park are also chipping in $300 a day to help cover that expense.

Theres also probably a useful lesson here about what the privatization of national parks would look like. Rather than the corporatized dystopia of environmentalist nightmares, removing the government from the equation would allow businesses that have a vested interest in maintaining and protecting Americas natural splendor to do exactly thatand would prevent the parks from being caught up in the unrelated drama of whatever nonsense is happening in Washington, D.C. Reason

In all, it seems like a pretty straightforward lesson about how private businesses will respond to changing market conditions and incentives. Keeping the park accessible means those businesses can continue to profit off tourists, government shutdown or not.  The market has responded and as government becomes more obsolete and people begin to realize they can live their lives without a master dictating their every move and stealing their money, there will be more and more stories such as this that come to light.

Yeah, we don't need impartial food and drug safety inspectors, an FBI, transportation security, Centers for disease control, public infrastructure, courts, restrooms in our national parks, a military, or really anything. Just turn everything over to private for profit corporations that only answer to their shareholders and burn the government to the ground. I'm sure all of us will be just fine. It's working great in Somalia, so why not?

You seem to have a certain fascination with Somalia, PowerStroker... I have noticed you have referenced it on many occasions - even going so far as offering me a free one-way ticket awhile back!

What is your fascination with Somalia?

Somalia is an actual real time example of what Republican policies of complete deregulation would lead to. That is why I bring them up whenever some genius talks about how government isn't needed.

From what I read Somalia is the most homogeneous country in Africa and comprises mostly of Muslims...

Perhaps you just don't like Muslims? Is that what it is PowerStroker?

Didn't read the title did you.

Govt is just far too big, it's bigger than the private sector. Think it's 51% now

I for one don't need anyone telling me I can't drink fresh whole cows milk.

Dems like big government. Don't understand why, costly, inefficient, corrupt,,,

I don't need them to tell me when I can take a dump and what time, some may like that though.

Democrats are all for big government when they are in power... But when they aren't, it's "Who needs the Government, leave it shut down so I can vacation and collect back pay for being on vacation".

Meanwhile we have a collection of racist trash forming on a beach somewhere in PR.

I don't recall the government ever telling me when I can and can't take a dump.

Are you still having flashbacks to when Reagan said "The scariest thing someone can tell you is that I'm from the government, and I'm here to help." ???

I liked RR for the most part.

Trump is offering amnesty, DACA but the dems rather party than get to business

Sure immigration needs some refining however "amnesty does not mean open borders" it means a process, a path. Not the path to the Rio Grande then disappear on this side either.

By the way, this whole thing about Dems putting government in every aspect of our lives...

It's not Dems that want the government in your bedroom. It's not Dems that want the government in a womans womb.

DACA was an Obama policy that Trump rescinded. And before the whole shut down the Dems offered a hell of a lot more than 5.6 billion for wall funding in exchange for DACA and Trump said NO.

Hell of a deal maker you have there.

I think you're going to have to be more specific than that... Row vs. Wade? I am so tired of hearing that! In the legal world it's all they talk about, like its the Holy Grail! They'll say to me all the time of my positions, "That would be like overturning Roe vs. Wade"... and I am just sitting there thinking, "I'm just here to litigate a civil matter, not get an abortion"! confuse

I can't speak to the specifics of what President Trump had in mind, but he did mention something about his willingness to a path for DACA kids currently here in exchange for a preventative measure keeping it from occurring again. Sounded completely reasonable to me, but what do I know? I am just a Grease Monkey.

It must mean that whatever your position happened to be, it was as ridiculous as overturning Roe perhaps?

No it was political... Trust me, I am a fair guy...

But it would be like the customer coming back to the shop to inform us the proper way to fix their car... they don't like outsiders either... so it is rough, even when the law is on my side.

I believe Obama's DACA had sunsetted so rescinded.

I only saw dems offer 1.2 bil

So a week ago, a wall was not going to happen, because a wall on the southern border would be racist, it would not be effective and because we did not have the money...

Yet they approved 54B in foreign aid? even though at 5B for our countries security we can not afford...

now it is not racist or ineffective...as long as they get certain concessions?

The shutdown lies at the feet of democrats...

They only opposed the wall to oppose Donald Trump...

They were perfectly willing to appropriate fund for walls and border security before Trump...

All the ranking democrats are on record supporting border walls/fences/barriers prior to 2016...

A wall will not PREVENT illegal entry...but a wall will reduce the resources needed to patrol the border...

Those on the front lines trying to protect our border say it is NECESSARY...

DEMOCRATS are no longer LIBERALS...they are full blown LEFTIST...

They want to destroy the republic and replace it with full on democracy...MOB RULE...and they will immediately strip the rights of the individual...

Once the republic is gone any issue they want will go to a popular vote...and your economy and all your freedoms will vanish like a virgin on prom night...

If we pay for the wall by repealing the Trump tax cut, I'd tell my congressman to support such a bill. How is that for compromise?
