The silent majority doesnt make a lot of noise, at least in the same way your run-of-the-mill leftist activist does. Typically, when you anger Americans you will start to see how badly you messed up over time. For Dicks Sporting Goods, their decline is incredibly expensive.
It all started when the Parkland shooting caused Dicks CEO, Ed Stack, to declare that his company would no longer sell AR-15s, and urged more gun-control laws be put in place. Naturally, this didnt sit well with Americans, who began turning their back on the business. Stock shares began falling, and instead of course correcting, Stack doubled down on his anti-gun stance.
Now, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the house that Stack razed has lost out on millions of dollars, and whats more, Stack isnt even sorry:
Dicks estimates the policy change cost the company about $150 million in lost sales, an amount equivalent to 1.7 percent of annual revenue. Stack says it was worth it.The system does not work, Stack said. Its important that when you know theres something thats not working, and its to the detriment of the public, you have to stand up.
According to the Dispatch, Stack is not only proud of his stance, hes joined up with anti-gun lobbying groups:
Stacks not finished, though. For almost a year, Dicks has been working with Glover Park Group to lobby for gun reform. Last month, Stack was one of just four CEOs to sign a letter supporting a universal gun control bill that recently passed in the house, and he recently joined the business council of Everytown for Gun Safety, a non-profit that advocates for gun control.
As Ive said previously, Stack has the wrong idea about guns in America, and has for some time. Mass shootings are becoming increasingly rare, and the supposed gun problem we have in America is often times a problem that occurs due to incompetence or laziness of the authority figures we put in place to guard against atrocious events. The failure of authorities in Parkland county is a superb example.
True safety exists with the average citizen when he or she is armed as well as educated. Mass shootings only occur where the shooter knows no one will be around to stop him with their own firearms. Over 98 percent of them in fact.
