I used to host my web services right out of the house with Windows 2003 Server software! HTTP, active desktop, email - the whole nine yards with terminal services! But back then a lot of that stuff was before its time and slow due to internet speeds, especially terminal services and IIS databases. The software was expensive, the hardware wasn't exactly cheap and the static IP address and internet plan was something to the order of $100 per month, but that included internet. For small traffic it was fine but it did take a lot of time to maintain, not to mention power to run the hardware 24/7. 

So I wen't with GoDaddy because at the time hosting was just $3.99 a month - now it's $9.99 a month and that doesn't even include the HTTPS service! Or if it does they aren't doing a good job letting people know how to activate it! So they are constantly doing things to block people out of hosting themselves! Everything cloud now days as companies like to monopolize on your data and hold it over your head. It makes me sick!

Now days with all the social media sites people don't even realize how much they are giving up until one day - BAM, they get banned or suspended. This site is not hosted by us and ActiveBoard pretty much does everything.. it's been pretty reliable but not much in the ways of databasing, hosting and mobile phone apps, although this forum basically is a database that is hosted - there aren't any hosting plans or things to customize your own database. They keep changing things up anymore to where it is hard to keep up with all the formats between Windows Internet Explorer (now dead anyway), to Safari (Apple browser) and then Google's Chrome...
