Help! Hep me please

Ford Fusion

Put the back seat down and it wont go back up!  WTF?  It has 2 sections.  The section behind the drivers side will not go back up.

is This common or did a part break?  I Am finding this 2014 model is slowly starting to fall apart bit by bit.

Any advice would be truly appreciated.

biggrin

Should be a button or lever to pull in order to lift it back up. Perhaps the same button that was used to lower it.

Very funny Stellar.  The fucking seat wont go up!

It has a recall on the locks.  So, well see just how crooked the dealership is here.  I bet they will make a big deal out of it.

Today the navigation part of this car decided to give crazy messages.  The car really was good.  Lots of bells and whistles but geez.  Everything breaks all at the same time.

I checked it out a little further online and it seems there is a problem they are having with these rear seat-backs. Apparently the seatbelt in the seat retracts and won't allow it to be lifted back up,

Not the greatest video but a quick search online shows several videos saying about the same thing for your years.

With regards to the navigation, that could be a tricky issue. What sort of crazy messages?

Sounds like the dealership should know what the deal is but if it's out of warranty you might want to consider dating a mechanic. lol, just kidding. Hopefully they give you a fair price, and if they don't find a good independent.

That helps a ton, Stellar. The seatbelts also had a recall and probably werent fixed right either.
Im taking it in for another recall on the locks...so, Ford can fix all this shit!

As for the navigation, honestly, since moving Ive probably just worn it out. I knew you would be able to help. At least I wont be so ignorant when talking to the service dept at Ford.

Thanks babe!!

I meant to ask, has everything been okay in your new location with these storms?

Did you ever get Fords to take a look at the vehicle? I wouldn't be shocked if there are a few recalls on that car.

The Ford Fusion is made on the same platform as Lincolns sedan, we have a 2006 Zephyer which is the chassis just prior to yours which I think started in late 2012 IIRC.

It is for sure cheaper to keep a car than get a new one. Little things here and there that can be lived with save a bunch of money as opposed to a new car payment.

The trick to having warranty or recall work done at the dealership is that you just have them stick to the warranty or recall work and shop around for any other services that may need to be done (unless it involves overlapping labor where they are already in there) as they will more than certianly suggest many other repairs and services while your car is in for warranty or recall work. I even heard that often times Fords and other automakers will offer a small silly recall on a vehicle just to solicit their customers to come in and have a shot at selling them more work. Oil change places do this too, they offer a really low cost for the oil change just to get you in the door to sell you a few hundred extra dollars in filters, wipers, belts and other such small work. Shops do it as well as part of a comprehensive 40-80 point checkout - what they are saying is they want to sell you some more work.

The one tricky thing about independents in other states like PowerStroker's, where the state does not require mechanics to be certified, is that sometimes you can get people in there that really dont have a clue. They could have been moving furniture or flipping burgers the day before as no competency or experence has been certified in the automotive profession. If this is the case you will want to seek out a garage with ASE certified technicians, or the required state equivalent.

Having sex with your mechanic is another way to get a really good rate, however if you ask my wife she will tell you to stop just short of marrying one. lol, just kidding. sorta. lol

Good luck, hope all has been well with these new storms in your area and be sure to let us know how it all turned out. More than likely someone with the same problem as you will visit this thread and be very interested in the outcome.

XO

This is pretty offensive. I've been a dealership technician since 2001. Prior to that I worked at an independent shop... And I can assure you that the dealership is by far the most qualified place to perform any diagnostic or repairs you may need, be they warranty or otherwise. And I have NEVER seen a recall that was designed with the sole purpose of getting people in so I can try to upsell shit, NEVER.

Ford Motor Company could give a rat's ass whether I upsell any customer pay work, and I only make recommendations to people that I would actually do to my own vehicle. I'm usually so busy that I don't need to upsell anything anyway. And unlike most independent shops, no dealer at which I've worked has ever paid me a commission on upsales. When I was at the independent shop they DID pay such a commission.

Sure there are some crooked people out there, but they exist at dealerships AND independent shops. My dealership fired a guy for being such a crook because they didn't want to perpetuate the image that apparently has already solidified in your mind. And guess what, that crook found a home in an independent shop where he belongs. The notion that you can broad brush dealerships in general as a bad place to go for any customer pay work is ridiculous. But hey, if you'd rather save a few bucks by going to a place where the "mechanic" has to troll for diagnostic information about your car on public web forums in order to fix your vehicle, then by all means go to an independent. And do me a favor, keep going there.

For the first time in many years I had to moderate my own post and delete it!

What I said earlier was mean and totally vindictive in nature. I had no choice but to delete it.

While what I said was mean and vindictive, it doesnt mean it wasnt true. But to be fair Ill just leave it at this:

PowerStroker, if Ford or your dealership cared so much about you then why the need for a union?

Now where does that leave the customer?

Ford has nothing to do with whether any of its privately owned dealerships choose to become union. The union at my dealer was voted in prior to my working there, and I'm sure it has to do with the guy who was general manager and part owner for many years being an absolute asshole to the employees. I would go on to say that my dealer is one of about 15 dealers in our auto group (same ownership). And in the entire group, ours is the only union dealership. As a result, my dealership gets better health insurance and retirement than any of the other dealers in our group. So even though the asshole is gone now, I think we will keep the union.

By the way, I have to be certified by Ford, not by the state of Minnesota. I would submit that the manufacturer of a vehicle is probably better at determining who is competent to work on their products than any state, but that's just my belief that this is one area where the government doesn't do things better than private industry.

I would submit that an un-basied second party would be better at determining who is competent, especially given all the nepotism that Fords is so famous for.

But to each, his or her own...

Nepotism? I have absolutely no known relation to the Ford family.

Have you ever paid your son to help out in your shop?

My 2014 Fusion has had many, many recalls. This last one was the locks, AGAIN. The letter said perhaps my vehicle wasnt serviced properly.
PowerStroker is correct..at no time during all these recalls the tech never tried to up sell. Just get r done.

The backseat issue that the seat wouldnt go up, well they told me it was a seat belt issue and had to take the entire seat out and ripped out the seat belt and locks. Crap job if I ever saw one and wanted me to pay for new seat belts, etc. fuck that. No thanks. Panama City has a hard time finding and keeping help since the hurricane AND the pay is so bad that Target & McDonalds pay better than most other jobs.

Stellar as far as my home goes, the 2nd contractor (Next door neighbor) screwed me over and then tried to force foreclosure so he could buy it cheap.
He picked the wrong Trump Girl to fuck with.....it never happened.

We are Now in a nasty court battle. This fucker lies like Ive never seen in my life.
So with COVID nothing is happening. Our city is getting back to normal though. No more mask mandates, no more staying home.
And
these people in Florida are so PUMPED UP about TRUMP And its so much fun.. There are Trump stores that you cant even get near..so crowded with loyal supporters!

Trump 2020!

Ps...the boyfriend is a pussy and wouldnt know how to fix shit! Hes never even had a job. You know, the silver spoon type? Inherited a shit load after parents died.

Yeah I know exactly what you are talking about... So Ford had a flaw in their door latch design that was installed in several models. The fix was to take all 4 doors apart and replace with the updated latches. Initially there was no problem because the labor time paid to the technician was fair for doing this repair. Then a guy named Mike Berrardi, who was the head of Ford service engineering until he retired (the guy who publishes recall procedures and decides how much time the dealership gets paid for the repairs) decided to cut the labor time on those recalls in half. Once that happened, most technicians ended up taking a net loss on each one of these recalls. So some decided to simply not do the recall, or at least not replace all of the latches but claim that they did (I always replaced all latches btw). Once Ford heard of latch failures on vehicles that already had the recall done, they looked in to it and figured out why. So now there is a new recall on the old recall, that involves checking the date codes on the latches to make sure they were actually replaced, and then uploading digital images of the date codes to ford for verification. I've probably done a hundred of these and never once failed to replace a latch that I was supposed to, even if I did take a net loss on several of them.

I wasn't talking about nepotisim at Fords as it relates to you, I was talking about the upper crust and not the grunts.

With regards to my Son and our business, we're a private company and I am training him to become certified. I will not train anyone else at this point as all of the people I have trained ended up going to work for themselves or some other competitor.

When we do get another building I won't be training anyone, they will be certified and know their shit or they will be passed over unless we are looking for a shop hand.
