RE: Rock Superstar

You should know Shawnee, that one of my pandemic internet crushes from the Webcrawlers thread, Eden Dranger, wrote some of the stuff for the new Beavis and Butthead movie!

Yo,

So I was listening to a little RUSH, & found this gem worth posting up here from their "Feedback" record, which was a collection of "covers" that influenced the band over the years.

I don't know WTF you're talking about Rastus, unlike Putin who couldn't sack his own neighbor, Bush and Cheney were surgical in their take-down of Saddam.

I was a Bush / Cheney supporter back in the day! Still am today!

What's your beef with Cheney, Rastus? In times of war he performed for the American people! Plus he is a big fan of J.W. Red Label Scotch! I wouldn't mess with him, or Bush Jr for that matter! They are pretty bad ass for a couple of old guys.

R1. Bush & Cheney were surgical in the event that is titled 9/11...They fooled you, & took-out Saddam for NO reason ( except for the oil ), & eventually remembered Osama, who happened to be getting treatment in a US-of-A hospital in Saudi Arabia at the time of the 9/11 event, whilst his family were safe & sound in Washington DC..

Oh, & let's not forget that G.W.Bush's little brother resigned his post as Head-of-Security of the World Trade Centre the day before 9/11...

But I digress...Certainly Bush hasn't the brain-power to compute all of this tragedy, that's why Cheney the SOB gets the heads-up !

Prayers & thoughts to the fallen, & the remaining ill, & brainwashed people of the US-of-A...A very real tragedy indeed. No wonder the swamp remains to be cleaned...

R2. You poor bastard...If only there was a way to save you, but it seems its way-too-late...CE5 will help you out however, guaranteed ! What are you waiting for ???

R3. Refer to R1, & the 9/11 thread in here somewhere.

Oh Rastus... would you like me to read you a book? Perhaps you'd like this classic called "My pet goat"?

May I remind you Rastus, GW was "re-elected" by a majority of the American people to finish a job.

But it's not just Bush... even Biden recently greased a 9/11 co-conspiritor! All of your bullocks is just your arrogance in having the luxury of hind sight and the lack of stomach for reality!

Not sure what has you so hot and wet about 9/11... New York is a long ways from you.

We got some crosstown action spinning in this thread somewhere!

But I agree... Hendrix is a legend! Only a few make it to legend status... seems a legend and drugs go hand in hand...

Double tap for good measure

Yo,

There's quite a few "legends" that died at the age of 27, Jimi & Janis as above are classic examples...

Wow Rastus! I never heard of this 27 club before! Thanks for sharing!

There are a lot of famous singers on that list too!

I did not know that Jim Morrison died at 27! I thought he was much older there towards the end.

Are the Scorpions considered rock?

Yo,

The "Scorpions" have been around for probably 50-years or more, & are massive in Europe...Probably their biggest historical big-deal comes in the form of a founding member, namely Michael Schenker, who then went into play with a very successful band called "UFO" in the mid-late 1970's, & then went on to form his own group "MSG"...

I'd bag them more into the"Heavy Metal" category, as that's where you'd find them listed in a record store if you went looking for them, though they aren't necessarily that heavy, depending on your tastes...

I was given a CD by my uncle of theirs from the 1990's, & it's quite good...But for me, as a musician, I've discovered that by the time I was 25 or so, I had my faves, & still stick with them to this day, so its hard for anyone "new" to come within my "fave circle of bands"...eg, I just got an official bootleg from KISS, that is the Des Moines gig from 1977...It's a soundboard recording, & isn't too bad a show, but I did expect the sound-quality to be much better than it is, but it's still quite good...I mainly bought it because the album KISS Alive-II is a double album, but side-4 was very average ( imo) studio recordings, as the band didn't have enough new tunes to put on there, without repeating tunes found on the first live album. Anyhow, it's great to collect a full show, warts & all, from 1977, as that's when I was right into them, & they rocked pretty hard, as they still do now...

So, the "Scorpions" are quite good, successful, & have been around a long time. That at least has to warrant some respect imo.

Good post Stellar !

Good info! There are quite a few songs by the Scorpions that I like... and yes I agree they are more on the softer side of heavy metal... or a "romanic" heavy metal if you will.

I always heard these songs at local carnivals and amusement parts when younger, bright flashing lights and the smell of food with the screams of excitement from riders really put the magic into the songs... And of course I heard it on the radio too. In the 1980's-1990's these were very popular songs here in the US as well and they really do take me back!

I think I've already posted-up the Stones "Get yer Ya-ya's out" which imo is their best effort ever, so I won't do it again lol !

Instead, I'll let y'all rock out to this baby !

Actually it was just one song, "let it bleed" and not the whole album... I can tell you're not a big Rolling Stones fan.

But your "entire" album wasn't bad by any means...

Allow me to retort!

LOL,

You're correct in that I'm not a huge "Stones" fan, but I do actually have their whole discography believe it or not...And their albums became formulated imo through the 1970's, & so sounded similar to one-another.

I like 1976's "Black & Blue" for some reason...And I often wonder why "Exile on Main st" is so revered. The 1960's is where the Stones were more diverse & creative. That said, every album will have a coupe of "hits" & great songs on them.

I love "West Bruce & Laing", & I'm glad you enjoyed that bootleg ! It rocks pretty hard lol !

It's too late to check-out your above post & cranks it up, but I'll do so tomorrow !

I love that beat around the 6:30ish minute mark in the song... what do they call them? They don't sound like your regular drums.

Yo,

That's a groovy song right there ! I like it a lot. It predates stuff that the Grateful Dead & say The Doors were doing...There's more than a hint at what Deep Purple evolved into also in there.

The drums at the 06:30 mark are your regular tom-toms found on most drum-kits, though you can expand on how many are in your kit by bolting on more, & the relative pitches they punch-out by tuning them. I'd say the way it was recorded has a lot to do with all, & I'd guess that its a "new-for-the-time" 4-track, stereo recording, that's been "bounced-down" & rerecorded over so that more of these drum sounds have better definition in the play-back. This means that you get 8-tracks or more of recorded material on the one recording / song, but you can only have 4-tracks recorded at the one time... Or if you rather, these drums were added-on after the initial recording, & maybe had a microphone each, using the 4 available tracks.

Good stuff !

Good post Stan !

I like the tune, it rocks ! ( The singer may have listened to a lot of early Stone Temple Pilots imo, since it sounds like a megaphone-sing-through lol )

Actually, there's a strong STP vibe through the whole thing, & that's a good thing !
