Of course it's a good thing imo.

Old tires take decades or more to decompose I think, & there's only so-many tug-boats out there that you can hang-them-off-the-side with !

You are aware, Rastus, that the tires on the Bugatti Chiron are only rated for some < 1,900 miles before they recommend replacement, right?

You would literally need new tires according to the manufacturer if one was to simply drive out West!

What are your thoughts on that Rastus? I drove out West, up and down the coast on the tires that came with my Corvette, which were about worn out at the start of the trip anyway! I got my monies worth out of them tires!

R1. That's around the same as I get out of my Pirelli Angel ST's...High HP machines need sticky rubber to get the power to the ground, without spinning-up. You'll find that the Hayabusa & Bugatti will have a high ( even similar ) HP to metric tonne ratio.

2. I've found over-the-years, that "gentle" acceleration prolongs tire-life better than reduced high speed cruising...It's quite possible that if you had those tires on your "Vette, you would have made it there & back on the one-set, if you accelerated easily, & stuck to a consistent cruising speed. I'd guess that the numbers given for that Bugatti were for race-track use.

3. Yes indeed, & my response would be what you just said, that confirms what I just suggested in R.2 lol !

These new tires from Good-year will have to see-out at least 20,000 miles imo to be able to sell them to the public, as regular wear & tear work-horse tyres.

I doubt that rodents will chew on them...And besides, they'd get "blown-away" if they took too-big-a-bite...

There's a great many things made out of corn, that chemists manage to change it into, for heaps of different uses besides a number printed on the side of a tinned-can of something...( eg, This is why your cattle are having major health issues that are passed down to us humans...They're fed lots of corn in their diet via the feed given to them, since it's cheap fodder, & increases profit.This messes-up the cattle's digestive system, lowering immune systems, & inviting new, & unknown diseases..(Just see what Monsantos has been up to for years )).

Maybe they'll find away to incorporate corn into the rubber formula, & so increase both mileage & grip ?

I only mention the Bugatti because of it's insane ratings for tires... < 1900 miles is NOTHING! It's almost like they do not expect, or think it's a good idea to cross country or GT this vehicle! Hell one cannon ball run would see a set of tires deemed worn out before it even ended! (FYI- The Cannon ball run is 2,900 miles and starts at the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan NY and finishes at the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach California... I get the fact that it's got a great top speed (of which was recently beaten by a modified Ford GT) but the interior is such that you would just think it should at least be able to make a one way trip across the country without needing new tires before you even get there! But there are many other things too Rastus! For instance, an oil change for a Bugatti will cost more than an entire Hayabusa cafe bike sells for! I get it, the Bugatti is for the people so rich they wipe their ass with money... which is exactly what they are doing when they buy one.

I also think it matters little if the rodents "blow themselves away" when they chew too deep... I'd still be pissed my car had a flat tire even if rodent guts were spattered nearby! LOL

An old farmer once told me they used to make Model T's with steering wheels made out of soy-beans... I'm not too sure how good corn is for pliable or plastic like compounds, but they have sure found a way to make fuel out of corn! You see a lot of E85 now days at just about every gas station now!

I'd also think an expensive tire like Goodyear would need to last a LOT longer than 20,000 miles! Most high end tires are rated for 50,000-60,000 miles, even if they do start dry-rotting well before then! That is why I try and stick with a less expensive 20k mile tire... as it wears out about the same time as they start to dry rot... nothing worse feeling than replacing tires with good tread because of dry-rot...
