OTOFIX D1 Lite Bidirectional Scanner Full System Diagnostic Key Coding Tool


Welp... I pulled the trigger on this bad boy today!

I got what I consider to be a fair deal on it... considering I was using my Dad's old Solus (2015) and my MT2500 brick in global mode -- this unit should do everything I need it to do as I already have a Snap-On digital scope and Fluke multi-meter. 

Supposed to come with two year free updates and a five year warranty. I like the fact that this unit is nice and compact, and it's also wireless. 

Figured I'd give this low cost unit a whirl before I purchased anything on the heavy-duty programing side because often times a lot of bigger re-man parts come pre-programed. But still this unit is Bi-Directional which means I could command common sensors to activate, and there are many other features that I just use an awful lot on the older scan tools that if they work on this unit -- it will be worth the cost alone since my current stuff cuts off at 2015 -- but keep in mind my older stuff also goes back to the early 1980's too. 

So I'm up to date on 2024's now, and I can program key FOB's and do some other interesting new stuff. This is great because I'm starting to get a lot of 2019 and up cars starting to roll thru. 

I'll keep everyone posted on how this unit works out... I think this OTOFIX brand is made by Autel -- but at only $300 -- I now have everything up to date! With my seperate TPMS tool from Autel I'm also good until 2024 on TPMS programing and such.

This should conclude my equipment purchases for awhile, outside of small hand tools of course. I had my eye on the power tools and scanner for awhile. Next up will probably be another hoist for the new bay coming on line, hopefully late summer/fall before next winter.

Yay! You've stepped into the modern age! I've been toying with the idea of picking up a generic scanner to use with my Honda etc. So let us know how you end up feeling about this one.

Well, so far -- I have only really used it on one car... but what I can report for now is that these things come pretty bare bones when you first pull them out of the box... which is to say there is a fair amount of registering with Autel and downloading lots of updates right off the rip! It's not too bad if you have a nice WiFi internet connection like I had, however somehow I managed to install the GM update wrong and I had to do a "factory reset" to get it back... the good news is, even after the "factory reset" it still retained ALL my previous updates and only updated the faulty (missing) GM update.

After this the entire thing just opened up -- and it literally scanned like a $10k scanner! It was pretty quick on the 2014 GMC Acadia that I am currently working with! I have two others here that need to be scanned, and a few floating around out there that I have to have come in, but for now I am happy with my purchase! 

It takes a little while to get used to the lay out, and there are a lot of updates -- which is a good thing since I am paid up for updates until 2026 as promised. I literally have icons for just about every auto manufacture around the world! It's really quite scarry! I say that because from 1996-up this thing is a little global powerhouse! And it does indeed scan ALL the modules advertised! I can't even begin to figure out how they can sell this thing for $300, but Autel / OTOFix seems to be trying to enter the market by offering such a value for such an advanced, wireless - handheld scanner! You would have to spend $10k on a new Snap-On to get anywhere close to what this little $300 handheld can deliver!

They have proven they can handle updates -- and so far, outside of the shock at first -- until I registered and updated everything successfully -- I'm impressed! 

The range on the wireless VCI (wireless OBD-II connector) is excellent! I could plug this thing into an OBD-II port in my driveway and still communicate with it while warm inside the house! I haven't yet tested the TPMS features on this unit, so I don't know if they match, dwarf or come up short to my Autel TS601 hand-held TPMS unit -- but it does have a special icon for it which suggests there is at least a connection to the TPMS computer -- which should give you all the information that my hand-held does. 

Upon looking at my screen just now, I notice there are 5 updates available since my last update! This would suggest that they are constantly adding new stuff -- which if you ask me is totally cool! 

I'll be sure to update the thread as time goes on, but if someone was looking for a powerful all-round scanner that could scan just about anything from 1996-2024 and allow for updates -- this wireless handheld for $300 on eBay seems to be an incredible value!

I've had a bit more time to use this tool on a few different cars and I'm still impressed. They recently posted a sale on eBay where you can get this thing for $269!! I don't know how they can do it, however this is almost $50 cheaper than what I bought it for a few weeks ago! It almost makes you wonder how low they will go? They get it down to $199.99 and I'd consider sending my kid one down in Texas -- just to have! I don't think they can get that low, but who knows... 

I took some photos of this unit in action... recently I had to test the wheel speed sensors on a vehicle to rule them out from a stability control warning light... turns out they were ok -- but as I said earlier, they don't call them wheel speed sensors.

To view the vehicle speed sensors they have it under the "Vehicle Stability Enhancement System"... and it only seems to display in km/h. which is fine since you're just making sure they are all about the same at speed.

You can also do a full scan/sweep of all the modules much like the newer Snap-On hand helds

It also has graphing for many sensor outputs, along with the ability to combine multiple to be able to watch them live side by side

So provding I get this same kind of functionality with all the other popular makes and models I'll be quite happy -- especially for the price! 

Yeah it sucks that I could have gotten it for $50 less by wating a few weeks -- but what are you going to do?

Best part, with the wireless VCI you can have a smoke outside the car while you're running tests! LOL

I have run into a compatibility issue with a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica! 

It would appear that Chrysler, from 2018-up, dispite OBD-II requirments -- has decided it can restrect access to it's OBD-II data on ALL scanner companies who don't pay for their certification! It's really a slap in the OBD-II regulations face -- but they have set up a consortium of sorts that will allow you a key to enter what is supposed to be a federally mandated system to diagnose emissions and engine module trouble codes! Apparently some scanners pay Chrysler for what amounts to a "key" -- so it does not affect all scanners... but it does prevent the OTOFIX D1 that I am talking about in this thread... mind you, there is the ability to aquire a key at a consortium website -- but the issue with the Pacifica turned out to be due to a worn cam lobe which was covered under the vehicles extended warranty... so we "dodged" a bullet this time! But it still really upsets me that Chrysler is getting away with this! 

It's also worth mentioning that Autel is currently not allowed to sell their drones in the USA due to security concerns... since this OTOFIX D1 runs on Autel technology it's got me worried it could be sharing data or eavesdropping... and even if it's not currently -- it could have the ability to do so, but this is just speculation based off some other verticals of the Autel company.

With the exception of this 2018 Chrysler Pacifica, the tool has really been helpful and has made me money... so I'm still satisfied with the purchase, but this nonsense with 2018 and later Chryslers is eventually going to rear it's head... if Chrysler doesn't fix it, and I have to pay a fee to access OBD-II data on the next vehicle than I will be filing a complaint with the Federal agency that oversee's OBD regulation and provide them with my receipts and photos. It's clearly a violation of current federal manufacture requirements to make emissions data accessible to the aftermarket!

Yes well...

Interesting that a 2019 year-model falls under your average Warranty-Period these days. Perhaps its there to protect the Dealerships & their expected influx of work...

More of a concern is a worn-out camshaft lobe...Good work to spot that one imo, especially when distracted by software bollox.

I was able to determine the cylinder misfire by the blinking check engine light... since my scanner would not connect without paying this consortiumn money -- I sent him down to my local parts store who scans cars for free and their scanner either paid the fee, or the company who made their scanner paid for the unit to have a programed key on the chip. It ended up being cylinder #5... Once it got past the changing of a coil and that did not fix it, the cost to open it up would have been more than the warranty deductible so it was sent to the dealership where they claimed it had a worn cam lobe... these 2018-up V6 Pacifica's  have known problems with head gaskets and the van I was working with had LESS THAN 40,000 miles! Thankfully he got the extended warranty.

Here is the consortium that sells the unlock keys -- and it's only an annual key! It's such a scam and you know everyone else will follow in line soon if nothing is done. Basic access to computer engine sensor values should not be something that requires a subscription per the laws here in the USA... how in the hell they are getting away with this is beyond me, but I imagine they are trying to circumvent the requirement by saying they are securing the system -- but it's BS. I'm shocked their isn't already more people and companies filing complaints or suing -- I'm really shocked the Government isn't doing anything about it either! It's just crazy!

The real issue here is not only "what do you tell the customer" ?...But "how much do you charge the customer" for your time & running-around ?...

All this useless electronic software shyte...No-wonder all the ships I've sailed still use Windows XP...
