Welp... I became aware the "search" feature was no longer working back on Thanksgiving when I went to draw up our decade old Thanksgiving thread and noticed it wouldn't pull up anything -- for any given search term.
This is really kind of a bummer, but at the same time I get it... It's free!
But it didn't always have to be that way you see -- if your recall we used to pay for the premium service, but then the anonymous China and other such nations would unleash their crawlers upon us and drive up the billable "impressions" to almost staggering numbers. I'd tell you to search the thread -- but, LOL!
There is nothing more frustrating than paying for grubby little Chinese or other foreign -- or even domestic spammers. I tried to float the idea that we could block off certian nations because of their willingness to allow spam and other such underhanded mass pumping of site impressions but such suggestions have more or less gone ignored.
This leaves me feeling much like I do at any other social media or web forum site... which is to say that everything is controlled by these "bots"... at least in a digital context to where unique "hits" or "likes" if you will seem to dictate which site is considered popular. If a site becomes too popular, and it's not serving the greater good of "whoever" they just buy it out and shut it down ie:MySpace and all the other good sites that have been sold off for big money, only to be made into an obscure forum with no resemblance to it's former self. We seen this with DH (Date Hookup) and to Yahoo -- which used to have a great chat area and lively community that had all of these modern day features back on a Windows XP computer.
Even more frustrating is that this trend seems to extend to companies like Microsoft, Apple, and Google who ALL offer opperating systems... trying to program a site for all three of them to connect everyone is quite a challenge if you want modern features that involve video, photo and audio uploads. Hell we just recently got something to allow Android users to use the Apple internal text system known as iMessage.
My point is, friends -- I've always wanted to rip the lid off the internet and connect all different people -- all around the world! Regardless what opperating system you were using! But, the powers that be just didn't feel it was a good idea to let people say what they wanted. So, I was sent from Krypton to Earth to live out my life as a mere mortal.
