Late and early LT1 Roller Camshafts

There seems to be an issue that we have not touched base on with regards to our photo CD regarding late and early camshafts. We have updated this information on our CD and members can view it on our private web server.

For the general public there are two things to remember about early and late model camshafts.

(1) Early camshafts have a short pin that locates the camshaft sproket
(2) Late camshafts have a long pin that locates not only the camshaft, but also drives the distributor. Also there is a much larger bore in the center of a late model camshaft compared to that of an early model. The distributor has a shaft that also slides into the center of the cam to center it. While it was a good idea and gives the distributor more stability compated to the earlier design, the early model cams will not fit the late model distributors, and camshafts being used out of a late model must have their pins trimmed in order to work in the early models.

I have attached a photo so you can see what I am talking about. Also see our photo CD for full details.
