CARS aka Car Allowance Rebate System aka CASH FOR CLUNKERS!

Well its been going on for awhile now. Seems they are claiming that the program will run out of money on Monday. Yet from all that I have seen a lot of dealers are complaining that they have not received the money from the government. Apparently the government wants these vehicles destroyed prior to any funds being dispersed.

What is really ODD about this whole thing is the fact that they require the destruction of the engine with a somewhat crude process. Pouring what equates to water mixed with silica sand into an empty crank-case and revving the engine until such time as the engine seizes. Strange enough that getting a clear answer with regards to just how the cars are to be "Scrapped" leaves me to thinking that when the program ends a lot of problems could arise.

List of problems that could arise-

Government fails to pay out (For whatever reason)
People in the newer cars could be looking are re-paying the $3500-$4500
Cars destroyed that did not qualify. (Well youre screwed now cuz its crushed)
Cars not being crushed, rather they are "Parted" out.
Some cars being rebuilt or having used engines installed.

Now for whatever reason, wouldnt it be something for a person whom went to the dealer to trade in their old vehicle under the CARS program, only to find out later that their vehicle did not qualify, as such making them liable for an additional $4500 in cost. To some this could put them over the edge, causing them to loose the new vehicle, and have lost their old paid off vehicle. I bet we will be surprised by some of the stories that are sure to come out.

To me the idea of destroying a good running vehicle, rather than donating it to someone without a vehicle, is a real waste! The amount of pollution that comes from making that vehicle is all in vane. It is not by ANY standard a reasonable solution. Furthermore, its questionable just what the CARS program calls for regarding the disposal of the vehicle. It has been documented that a water/silica solution is added to an empty crank case and the engine revved until such time as it seizes. Also the title must be written on in large letters "Cash for clunkers". I have seen some reports that they were spray painting "CARS" on the side of the vehicles also. Yet the real question is this, DO THEY HAVE TO BE CUSHED? It seems that there is a clause in there that allows the junk yard to sell off the parts. If this is the case, and the cars are not required to be CRUSHED who decides where all of these government paid for clunkers will go? Once they get to where they are going, how much are the yards paying for them?

This whole entire thing is just a big effing JOKE. Seems that American based companies only had TWO cars on the top 10 that sold, with Honda and Toyota having the other 8. Sure some of them 8 Asian cars are made here in the USA, but all the profit goes back to Asia.

I personally think the program should have been scrapped itself. Who ever thought up this JOKE should be forced to run for 20 miles and drink the same solution that is put inside the motors of these poor cars.

What do you think? Here are some links to some videos about the CARS programs. Enjoy them and feel free to add your own. I know YouTube has some pretty good ones as well.

try to divide $3,000,000,000.00 into $4500.

It equals 666,666.666 units. Check it for yourself.

This will give you the least amount of vehicles this program will have helped to save, however the number is a little scarry.

I think you guys are fucked.

I meant to say that the number represents the amount of vehicle "Unit" sales that the program has helped to make.

Keep in mind that the government CAN and WILL deny any clunker claims that do not fit the bill.

(1) The vehicle has to have been OWNED, PLATED and INSURED for the past year.
(2) It has to get less than 18 MPG when sold NEW, not what it gets after 150K
(3) All paperwork must be properly filled out to the T with PROOF.
(4) The vehicles engine must have a special glass solution run thru it.
(5) Vehicle and title MUST be marked as a "CARS KLUNKER".

Any of the 5 are not done and the dealer isnt getting its money. There is also word that many dealers made customers sign contracts that state they will be on the hook for the CARS klunker money in the event the government refuse to pay.

Now think about the salesmen at these new car companies whom have been starving for the last year. It is bound to happen where a person fails to get the credit, their paid off car is crushed and the new one is taken back.

What a program!

However, on the other hand, if just a hand full of lives are saved by way of getting dangerously unsafe vehicles off the road that exceed their worth to fix, then this program will have been a sucess in my eyes. (This includes Stoma's car)

This in no way takes away from my feelings on other issues, just that I'm not willing to take to the streets with signs.

Even though it was proven to have been a waste of money, AND that it really only benefitted Asian car makers - Fords is pushing to bring back cash for clunkers!

https://www.yahoo.com/autos/revisiting-cash-clunkers-spells-doom-200745995.html

It was a bad idea then and it's a bad idea now!

I was shocked to see that there were three threads about it when I did a search... so I responded to them all! LOL

I was also shocked to hear you're against this new round of Cash for Clunkers! But that is just what they want, to get ALL gas cars off the road eventually.

You're right it would be a bad idea to kick off such a program right now while new car inventory is in short supply, but when has that ever stopped a politician?

They want these older cars off the road and the kickback network is probably already in play with the scrapping of the old cars.

R1. LOL ! Why not though, at least you've covered all-the-bases !

R2. If we could get Stan Meyer's system of cars running on water, there may be some life left for the oldies...In fact, a whole new stretch of life...I'd personally love that 1975 "vette with say a 510" Chevrolet that runs on water you were once upon a time restoring...

R3. If the politician can't make any $$$ or get a kick-back after politics it won't happen, that's for sure !

R4. I'm not-so-sure that they want old cars off-the-road, in as much as they'd just like to be selling you new ones...Not everyone wants a new car anyway, simply because of depreciation costs. Leave the new-buys to the Companies that need tax-breaks lol !
