Had a customer bring in a newer 2001 Ford Lightning the other day. At first I thought he just stuck a Lightning badge on it, as I was sure the only lightning's that Ford made were he 1990's with the 351 GT40 equipped engines. He looked at me like I was an idiot and said "Son, this sucker has a supercharged 4.6 liter".
Upon opening the hood he was most correct. There sat an SVT roots style supercharger atop a 4.6 liter SOHC engine! Looked as factory as could be, mostly because IT WAS!
He claimed to get great mileage if he kept his foot out of it, and in addition he had well over 100,000 miles with no major problems to speak of! I was quite impressed.
I should also mention how sweet the truck looked. Had the flare style bed with tricked out SVT interior and 5 star SVT rims. As I wiped away the drool I managed to snap a few shots of the engine.
Enjoy.
Thread title Edited because I wasn't paying close enough attention. The newer Lightning trucks are a 5.4 Liter DOHC Supercharged engine as PowerStroker has mentioned below.

Good call PowerStroker! I stand corrected! I zoomed into the image and it is indeed a 5.4 liter!
When looking at the valve covers I do recall they were flat, so a DOHC is most likley the case. The guy claimed it was a 4.6, then again he wasn't aware that his directional tires were on backwards either. Nice looking truck I thought. He was picking up some parts so I really only got a quick look at it.
Like I mentioned earlier I wasn't even aware they made another lightning after the GT40 351 equipped models.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention! I knew there was a reason we kept you around! LOL! Savor the flavor!
