Auto Parts - Life on the "Other Side".

Being in Detroit there is some serious competition when it comes to anything automotive. Growing up I seen a lot of big outfits trying to break into the Detroit market. Seen many parts suppliers come and go. Usually bought out by some other large outfit.

The auto parts market is an aggressive one unless you are a dealership guy. In the life after warranty world it comes down to who has the better price, and how long before I am back on the road.

This commercial about sums it up on a day where everyone keeps fucking up, sending you the wrong part, or even worse yet sending you the wrong part and the proper one costing several hundreds of dollars more. Add in the Estimate rules and availability, tag on an anxious to get on the road customer, divide that by your profit margin, and you have this-

Next week...

Who is the biggest aftermarket parts outfit in the world?

Stay tuned.

I do agree that the auto parts market is an aggressive.  It is considered as one of the fast growing industries.  Auto Parts businesses offer there products in different ways to attract more buyers such as offering Replacement Auto Parts, Performance Parts, Car Parts and Auto Accessories at wholesale prices.

Auto parts seems to be a tough and expensive car problem just like this thread but folks you must be careful enough in doing so. Here in Investigation deepens in auto parts price-fixing scandal, I found the price fixing scandal which Furukawa Company involved with. The automotive market has been shaken up by a price fixing scheme involving a parts supplier. Furukawa, a business that provides electronic automobile parts, seems to have been colluding for several years in a number of countries to fix the price of parts, and numerous of its executives are facing jail time. It seems a big trouble for Furukawa Company as the year ends.

Seems to me that every since NAFTA was passed Detroit has gotten SCREWED!

We use to have the lock on parts, now it's all coming out of Canada and Mexico. Big conglomerates like Craigs and Shuckers (however its spelled) have taken over a big chunk. Companies like ISW, Pep Boys and other big outfits have been working for years to kill Detoits grip on the parts business. Now you will be lucky to find reasonable prices that arent within cents of another big outfit like Auto Zone.

I bitch about them all, but I still use them. It's a fucking bitch when my inside sales company since back in 1993 is within cents of the big outfits. It's almost impossible to upsell parts so anymore I just make my customers purchase the parts and we install them. They feel like they are saving money because they are. I'd have to mark up parts at least 100% to make it worth my while to take the risk of fronting parts money. I just don't do it anymore because of these companies and their price fixing that eats up what was the mechanics share in markup.

Of course better deals can be had in buying bulk, but at what point do you cross the line into becoming a distributor? It sucks.

Yes I do agree Auto parts have gained a lot of importance with changing time. With so many new type of cars coming in the demand for various auto parts has increased.
