DETROIT BANKRUPTCY - UP SHITS CREEK WITHOUT AN ORR?

Orr maybe not?

Depending on who you talk to, it would appear as Detroit is positioning itself for Bankruptcy. It's been a long time in the making, with many years of failed Democratic leadership. Take for instance the most recent Kwami Kilpatrick scandals; and for people not in the "know" Mr. Kilpatrick was former Mayor of Detroit. As the bumper stickers read "Detroit is so hard core even our Mayor does time in the can" and sadly this is a fact.

But Mr. Kilpatrick was not the only one. He had help from people like Jennifer Granholm (former Governor of Michigan) who herself subscribed to the hard core PowerStroker mantra, which is to say "Head to toe Donkey". I could go on for paragraphs about the Democrats before them, and the ones before them... But one can not deny the trend and the common denominator. But that's just how I see it, I could be wrong but I'd dare you to prove otherwise.

Yet somehow, out of the blue Michigan is starting to turn RED. Yes, a new Governor; Rick Schneider who just happens to be a Republican has taken BOLD steps to root out the problems that have long since strangled the City of Detroit. In a brave and very skillful way Mr. Schneider has grabbed Detroit by the short and curlys. Lansing (Capital of Michigan) aka "The State" has taken over Detroit and is immediately working towards a solution. I for one applaud Mr. Schneider who is taking the bull by the horns and doing something that century's of Detroit City Mayors never could do... HE IS GOING TO BALANCE THE BOOKS!

How's he going to do that? Well as I mentioned "The State" has taken over Detroit. An Emergency Financial Manager has been appointed. Our city's new defacto "Mayor" is now none other than Kevyn Orr. It would appear from all that I have read that Mr. Orr hails from Maryland but went to School in Michigan and I only know this because of reports that he had tax liens to the tune of $15K (On homes owned in Maryland), but they were promptly taken care of and it appeared to be a genuine "error" although it did rock the boat and the media had a field day with it for a week. But now that Debt is long since paid, and Mr. Orr has wasted no time rounding up all of Detroit creditors and making them an offer they can't refuse, well... they could refuse but that means they get nothing. What is the offer? .10 cents on the dollar! And people actually have the nerve to ask me why I don't put money in the markets.

So here we are... An EMF who is working his way down a checklist of requirements to file Bankruptcy, and the idea that Mr. Orr could get EVERYONE to accept .10 cents on the dollar is highly unlikely, even though honest efforts are being made to get everyone on board I just don't see it. The most recent effort, which by the way has me laughing my ass off, was to offer all of the creditors a free bus ride around the city to see just how bad things are, and I am not talking about the Downtown District, I am talking about the inner cities of Detroit, the "REAL" Detroit areas that have long since been forgotten. Of course only 15 people have signed up for this tour which requires a waiver by the way LOL! And the bus they will be driven around in I am told will be a regular old Detroit City bus, no fancy tours buses. The rational behind this tour is to let the bankers see just how serious the .10 cents on the dollar offer really is, because otherwise it's going to be "fuck you, have a nice day and thanks for playing, and by the way here is my Bankruptcy discharge for that debt we owed you", and that's all there is going to be.

For far too long Detroit has sputtered and many areas sit in decay. Detroit was and still is the Motor City but how could such a robust industry be brought to its knees? Once again I can only think of one common denominator, BAD LEADERSHIP, brought to us by the Democratic party who in all rights has had a strangle hold on Detroit City.

The silver lining to all of this is that for once, Detroit will have a fighting chance. For once it appears Detroit might get the 2nd chance it has so desperately needed. Orr, they could just fuck it all up but I just can't see how getting Detroit?s books back in order could be a bad thing, even if it meant Bankruptcy. But just to be clear, it would be the largest municipal Bankruptcy in history! Detroit City has shrunk to only 700,000 people (300,000 short of what many would even consider a City) and in one area of Detroit only 1 person in 77 blocks paid taxes last year, which indicates just how crazy things have become.

Got to wonder what City is next?

Chicago perhaps?

http://autotrend.activeboard.com/t36870274/illinois-close-to-becoming-insolvent-obamanomics-101/

Oh that's right, they sent Rham over there to keep things looking good. That guy is such a hard worker that he never let a good crisis go to waste. Chicago style!

Hey SELLC,

Maybe they ( who's they ? ) could ask Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley of KISS to do a couple of charity gigs...After-all, Detroit is Rock City...The ante may rise up to 20 cents in the dollar...Geez, why don't they just buy Detroit ! LOL !

Cheers,

Rastus

"They" alludes to the people who put Rham in Chicago... aka Obama.

With regards to Detroit-Rock-City, well we still have some good rock stations but I think the damage is a little worse than what ole' KISS could muster. But if you think a bunch of old guy's in tight leather pants wearing face paint can generate $20 billion dollars then perhaps we need to forward this suggestion to Mr. Orr for consideration. LOL!

It's looking like it's going to be a Chapter 9 situation. Major power change, and some people; the ones with pensions should not have to take the brunt. Union contracts and such I could see, but someone who has worked hard and true for a company should get all they were promised and the ones too far out for said promises need be taken care of in a way they can make it up with continued hard work and loyalty until such time they retire. It would seem to me that said money should be there for them already since they paid in, and if it's not then that's a serious problem.

Then again, as a guy who bust his ass in 100 degree heat with sweat dripping profusly I'd be more inclined to ensure the WORKING CLASS (aka blue collar) get's their retirements since they have sacrificed their bodies and really are in need of retirement. These are also the kind of people you really don't want pissed off stewing anyway... They typically have no desire to argue and will end up on your doorstep piss drunk one day with nothing to lose. And you have to realize there are usually 1000's of blue collar worker bee's to every executive in a big company, maybe 10,000 worker bee's to every politician who may work with said big company to fuck them.

I am just glad I am not Kevyn Orr... He sure picked the wrong city to come in and start fucking with people. The guy must have a wheel barrel to carry his brass balls around in. I don't have any skin in the game, except to say I would like to see Detroit make a turn around but I feel bad for anyone who has to try and take money from a hard working man/woman, let alone 1000's of them.

It's going to get ugly and it's not been reported much in the mainstream media but when it happens I'm sure it's going to be a shock to many who don't follow the news.

Hey SELLC,

We were all taught in school that our elected officials ( government ) are there to look after the countries people,-1st & foremost...

I would say that there are even many other people in different parts of the world going through similar things also. Even Ford in my hometown & it's neighboring big-city Melbourne are closing up everything by 2016...That's a hell of a lot of people that are going to be screwed by this, as it's also the people in other the other factories that make the cars windscreens, springs, plastics, carpets, light-globes, bearings etc etc that will all miss-out as-well. They've certainly messed things up by allowing so-much-crap from Asia & the likes to trade too competitively against the home markets, thereby screwing the local folks that they're meant to be protecting...Hmmm...

GREED SUX !!!

Cheers,

Rastus

http://www.freep.com/article/20130716/NEWS01/307160135/Detroit-owes-1-2-million-in-taxes-on-36th-District-Court-building

For people not from Detroit, that's pretty much the court that handles all Civil cases. The MAIN court aka "Big Court"...

This is not looking good.

Could this be the new Detroit? Robocop and all?

This video above is almost so true it's scarry! Except they have not unvield the new City yet... I guess Itlitch is waiting until after Detroit goes bankrupt! LOL!

Wonder if we will be getting some Robocops too? Funny thing is they used the Taurus in the Robocop movies, now days the Police around here drive in Taurus SHO cop cars. LOL But then again a hell of a lot more than 1 person in 77 blocks actually pay their taxes around here. That really says something about how bad the management of Detorit has been in the past.

I mean really?

We need OCP!

LOL!

Detroit is now using the threat of bankruptcy to spur settlements on lawsuits against the city! LOL!

And guess what! Some of the settlements or judgements on the city for things like Police brutality and neglect may get dismissed all together in Bankruptcy!

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130712/METRO01/307120042/1409/METRO/Detroit-uses-bankruptcy-threat-spur-settlements

This $hit's for real folks... But the main stream media would rather focus on a self defence case (Trayvon Martin) than focus on what could be the start of a nation-wide Bankruptcy! What do I mean by nation-wide? Well if Detroit goes bankrupt I predict the next city will be Chicago and from there possibly more!

YAY OBAMA! What a great leader! GO DEMOCRATS! Bail out GM and Chrysler (Who No longer American by the way)but let Detroit fall on it's face?

I'm not so sure PowerStroker and here is why,

GM and Chrysler went Bankrupt, and then got a huge loan from the government for doing so. That to me is totally insane! Who do you know that mismanaged their money and had to go bankrupt get's a big loan for doing so? Certainly not people like you and I.

And here is something else, when GM and Chrysler went bankrupt they DEVISTATED Detroit because many of the suppliers and local business that were doing work for these big companies got stiffed by way of a Bankruptcy discharge. Not only that the city took some serious loses too because of the bankruptcy.

I really don't think Detroit would have been much worse off, honestly! Although I do think GM deserved some money, I don't feel Daimler Chrysler should have been given a fucking dime! Now Chrysler is basiclly Fiat, so who did we bail out?

Hey folks,

Detroits doom & gloom has finally made news headlines here in Oz. I really feel for you guys, so hang in there !!! The story that we're getting is a broader picture than what's been posted so far, so see what you think....

*Detroit has become the largest city in US history to file for "Bankruptcy Protection" after decades of decline & miss-management rendered the home of the nations car-industry insolvent...

*Once a bustling beacon of industrial might, the city is now a poster-child of urban decay, its landscape littered with abandoned sky-scrapers, factories & homes.

*Crime is rampant, & the city cannot afford to keep its lights on, with a whopping 40% of street-lights out.

*Detroits bankruptcy is destined to make it harder for other manicipalities in Michigan & other US states to borrow money, by undermining confidence in what once used to be amongst the most strongest bonds available.

*Michigan governor Rick Snyder said qt " There was no other option. This is a difficult step, but the only viable option to a problem that's been six-decades in the making. The citizens of Detroit need & deserve a clear road out of the cycle of ever decreasing services. The only feasible path to a solid & stable Detroit is to file for Bankruptcy Protection."

*Racial tensions sparked by the Civil Rights Movement, & the devastating 1967 riots, exacerbated white & middle-class flight to the suburbs. Businesses followed suit, shrinking the tax-base.

*With less revenue, Detroit had to cut back on services, prompting even more people to leave, & eventually sending the city into an economic tail-spin.

*The "Motor City" meanwhile saw its main employers go through round after round of mass-lay-offs, as car factories were automated or out-sourced, & Asian competitors then siphoned away market-share.

*The homicide rate is the highest its been in almost 40 years, & for almost 2-decades, Detroit has been on the list of "most dangerous cities" in the US.

*People on average have to wait around 58 minutes for Police response to calls when compared to the nations average of 11 minutes.

*There are 78,000 abandoned buildings scattered across the city, & a lack of funds for maintenance & repairs means that only 1/3 of the city's Ambulances work.

*The city has been borrowing money to pay for its bills for over a decade, a short-sighted move that depleted its coffers.

*About 38 cents in every city dollar is going into debt repayments & obligations such as pensions, & that's projected to hit 67 cents by 2017.

Phew..., talk about letting things get out-of-hand & forgotten about...Fingers crossed that Detroit can manage to survive, & become a strength once again for its hard-working people & country.
