Mercedes Benz V8 lower PULLEY / BALANCER removal M117 / M116 560 / 420

I wanted to post up these photos for people having problems removing their balancers on the Mercedes Benz M117 and M116 V8 engines.

It would appear the biggest problem people are having (DIY'ers) is getting that large center bolt loose, often times because the 4 washers on said bold get rusty and will not allow the lower pulley to slide over. Usually the center bolt on the pulley/balancer is VERY tight and requires the use of a good impact to break it free. From there it's pretty straight forward. Here are some photos if you happen to get jammed up.

Good luck!

Yes IIRC it's counter clockwise to remove as the engine spins clockwise when running.

Thanks again SELLC... another question.  The 2nd from last pic, (unsure of the parts name), when renting a tool from local auto shop, what is the correct "puller" to use?

Thank you!   BTW - I was finally able to pull my 420 engine.  Currently on a stand and sitting in my garage...things are moving forward!!!!

Hey SEL420,

You could buy one at any auto-parts store ( except AutoZone LOL ) for around $20:00. They're made so one size fits all, & come with a range of bolts / lengths to suit, so don't rent one, buy one for keeps !

Cheers,

Rastus
