Auto repair shop software, which one to choose?

Hello guys. Is anyone auto repair shop owner here or working in a shop? I m looking for software for my auto repair. I found tonnes of itconfuse...As far as I understood most of shops are using Alldata or Mitchell, but for me it's not affordable right now. Could you advice something? I want to point, that I m not looking for a diagnostic tools. I need something "lite", web-based and user-friendly to run my business. There is one app that I think is ok for me http://www.autorepaircloud.com/ . Did anyone applied it before? Any feedbacks?

We have alldata for any non Ford products at the dealer. It is ok, but not always the most generous for labor times.

Thanks for your reply. I've heard of alldata, but I thought it's quite expensive...how much do you pay? And why you are not using it for Ford products?

I have no idea what it costs the dealer. I just fix cars and leave the money stuff to the people upstairs.

As a Ford dealer, we have access to actual Ford service information which is far superior, and far more complete than anything alldata (or any other aftermarket provider) has to offer.

I clicked on the link to check it out and I'll have to admit I'm not too impressed. First of all, who wants all their customer data stored on the "cloud"? What if the internet goes down?

Perhaps the software could use some more features. I have a lot of ideas about what would be the "ultimate" shop software but I get the impression the author of this thread may be in some way associated with the company -- am I wrong? I dont know but it's just the impression I get.

I certainly don't have any problems with people trying to promote their ideas but at the same time they should be prepared for constructive criticism. I'd also have to agree with PowerStroker that Fords probably has the best software for their vehicles, but Fords doesn't like to share. Actually to be quite honest I feel sorry for anyone who buys a Ford, because the entire business seems more like an effort to keep customers buying new cars than to build a top quality vehicle to last a lifetime. In Fords defense, that seems to be the objective with ALL automobile manufacturers now days.

It also seems that a lot of shop software is incorporating CarFax into their systems. You type in the license plate # and it pulls up the information stored with the state without having to punch it in. Only problem is, once you punch it in it tags the vehicles CarFax report as the car being in for service. I guess this could be a good or a bad thing, but not so much as far as privacy goes.

Rex is a professional shop owner.

Keep in mind though that professional means that one gets paid to do something... Not necessarily that they are any good at it ;)

I keep forgetting I'm not dealing with experienced shop owners.

Guess the question OP needs to answer is, what's your budget?

Dont mind PowerStroker, him and his buddies nearly had an attack of conscious when they first arrived. Seems they had weak stomachs when it came to "real" business decisions -- stuff like getting paid.. But you know them line mechanics -- all heart and no brains. ;)
