To me, this sounds like the BEST possible solution outside of going to war...
It is the ONLY option we have outside of war! It's a tall order but it would fix A LOT of problems and ensure that we take care of two birds with one stone,
Bird 1 - It will spur manufacturing in the USA like nothing ever before!
Bird 2 - It will put pressure where it's needed rather than going to war. Let them deal with it, and let them pay for it!
I'd be willing to forgo all the cheap Chinese crap and make my iPhones last a few years longer, or find US made replacements. If it meant not having to have the stigma of war on Republicans hands or anyone in the USA for that matter, then yeah! It's gotten to a point where we are being played by these Asian nations, let's let them choke on it! They can play their games by themselves! They can enjoy their new axis of evil trading partners and circle jerk themselves off at their little BRICS meetings all they want! Fu@k em'!

China is NOT the enemy here, even if they're playing the Devils Advocate. Both these Asian countries have leadership that lasts generations.
Mr.Trump is nothing more than a passing unpleasing blast of hot-air, that will pass soon enough, in their long-term vision.
I'd guess that more people world-wide would be affected badly, if trade was to stop with China. The US-of-A's economy ( which is moving along quite well apparently ) would stall, & the time needed to rebuild a manufacturing industry in the US-of-A would need years, many more than Mr.Trumps likely to be in office, & so this would flop before it got started. And as for the rise in your cost-of-living....
The US-of-A people would want assurance that sanctions & trade-closure remained in place for at least 50+ years, so that survival is possible.

No one really cares about these drawn out dictatorships in Asia... If they wish to be on the sideline for 8 years and beyond, then fine.
China is the enemy to some degree, as they allow this to happen... to a degree they encourage it and play devils advocate for their own ends.
I don't see how the American economy would stall, since we don't rely on China for our food.. Sure there are some things that would take a few years to come around but all of it would spur immediate investment here in the USA as companies moved to ensure they could compete in the future. Really the only one that stands to lose here is China and of course, North Korea.
There are no point in tariffs... Just ban trade all together! This way the option to even buy their garbage is off the table! I don't care what China is making, if there is no China option an American supplier will immediately pick up on it. Distribution here in the USA is no joke, we can easily distribute a product all over the country in very short order.
As the Chinese ships are sent back home full, they will immediately understand. Under a bull$hiting liberal Presidency it probably would take years, but under someone like Trump it will be quick and profound. I have to disagree with you on this one Rastus, I think it could solve a lot more problems than we even realize. It should have been done LONG ago!

Mr.Nixon ( see my avatar ) way back in 1972, opened the doors to trade with China.
It seems that heavy investment after all these years from the US-of-A & the world, has allowed a huge amount of manufacturing to be developed & distributed world-wide from China, with MASSIVE profits to be made for these "investors". These "investors" that reside State-side would need more than a little convincing to spent money at huge profit-losses to reinvest again in the US-of-A. Much easier to find another place like Bangladesh to start business again, & reap massive profit.
eg. If Nike has their sneakers made in "x" country for $00:02 a pair of sneakers, & then sells them in the US-of-A for $100:02, the profit margin speaks for itself. And this is how they ( & others ) do business. How much would the same Nike-sneaker cost if manufactured in the US-of-A ?...
Change takes a long time, decades when it comes to this type of thing & scale.
Personally, I'd love to see GM & Ford re-establish manufacturing cars here in Oz once again, but even this has taken over 10-years to wind-up, & the factories still trickle a few cars out, but not for much longer.
My first vessel that I sailed on as a Cadet Engineer with TK, the MV Iron Monarch was specifically built to transport Steel Slabs from Woolongong NSW, to Hastings in Victoria. These steel-slabs were then melted-down & turned into the sheet-steel that was used to make car-bodies & chassis. By the time my Cadetship was over in 2011, the vessel was sold-off. And soon after, GM & Ford were closing down. It would take a while ( years ) to pick this up again, though the idea pleases, as I'd likely have a job again...

Well let's put it this way... If them .02 Nike shoes can't be sold in the USA they become worthless here. So I am pretty sure Nike would either move out of China for now, maybe a neighboring country, maybe even Australia or the USA... Who knows! The point is there will be no profit for Nike with a China made shoe! So even paying .10 cents or $5 per shoe it's a heck of a lot more profit than NONE! Business 101 right there!
I'd think a ban on things from countries that support North Korea would be great for any country that also agrees that North Korea is out of control, because we would do more business with them rather than China.
