Common core and "education"

Thanks to common core, 8th graders in U.S. public schools scoring way below average.

According to a new report, about two thirds of all 8th graders across the country are not proficient in English and Math.

As reported by cnsnews.com

(CNSNews.com) - Sixty-five percent of the eighth graders in American public schools in 2017 were not proficient in reading and 67 percent were not proficient in mathematics, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress test results released by the U.S. Department of Education.

The results are far worse for students enrolled in some urban districts.

Among the 27 large urban districts for which the Department of Education published 2017 NAEP test scores, the Detroit public schools had the lowest percentage of students who scored proficient or better in math and the lowest percentage who scored proficient or better in reading.

Only 5 percent of Detroit public-school eighth graders were proficient or better in math. Only 7 percent were proficient or better in reading.

In the Cleveland public schools, only 11 percent of eight graders were proficient or better in math and only 10 percent were proficient or better in reading.

In the Baltimore public schools, only 11 percent were proficient or better in math and only 13 percent were proficient or better in reading.

In the Fresno public schools, only 11 percent were proficient or better in math and only 14 percent were proficient or better in reading.

Among the states, Louisiana public elementary schools did the worst in teaching students math and New Mexico public elementary schools did the worst job teaching reading.

In the Louisiana public schools, only 19 percent of the eighth graders were proficient or better in math and only 25 percent were proficient or better in reading.

This is our future. Hopefully President Trump gets rid of common core and localize education.

Between common core and GW's no child left behind it's pretty sad.

Can't read, can't write (text though), can't spell without a spell checker.

Can't do math. Ask a high school student if they understand the concept of square root, give me the square root of 9. "oh isn't that the check mark thingy on the calculator?"

No geography.

No US history, No world history.

No problem solving, no health classes, no PE (barely)

Too bad, these kids are not dumb to begin with, just are missing out.

RE: Common core and "education"

I'm torn on the issue... Kids will be kids and there is not a one size fits all solution for all kids when it comes to the way they learn. Some are early bloomers and some are late bloomers...

For me I'd say the biggest thing schools need to embrace is applied education, I just made this term up but what I am saying is that everything kids are taught needs to be applied in real life situations so the kids

can understand why they are being taught something and how it will help them. Obviously good teachers are implementing this into their curriculum but we have to be honest with ourselves that a lot of the real

trade secrets that kids need to learn in school, even in college - are often times trade secrets that never see the light of day in a classroom.

I keep seeing these videos (probably Asian propaganda) where they praise how Japanese kids are so great, and how they don't get graded until after three years in school, and how they all pitch in to clean up the school.. You sit there

and watch this video and after a minute or two you're like, wait a minute! All of these kids are Asian! There is NO diversity! That's when it hits you, these kids aren't advanced! They are just a bunch of racist who are living in a racist utopia

that would never be allowed here in the USA.

Even a late bloomer should be able to read and do math in 8th grade though. I knew seniors in HS couldn't do any math. The school in DF Maine, was looking for donations. I met with and told the Dean give the 60 student size senior class an 8th grade comprehension test. For everyone could score at least 60% I'll give $100 per student. Wouldn't take me up on it. Wonder why.

Speaking of Asians we hosted a Korean girl from Seoul 18 months. She knew more as a freshman than any senior would ever learn. They went to school 6am to 8pm and were caned if they misbehaved.

I know there are some good students out there, but the system as it is?

On top of those things you mentioned, I would like to add another.  They should bring back Civics Class.

Not 'social studies'...CIVICS class!  And by Christ, they'd better teach it properly.  None of this Liberalism Only shit.

Never go. I don't know what they are teaching anymore. Not much I guess. Calculators, cell phones, new math on their fingers, whatever.

You see any of these kids working in a store, ain't a damn one of 'em can count back change.  If the store computers go down, they're fucked.  They haven't got Clue One about how to count change back.  You can't make this shit up.

Im noticing a new trend here amongst the businesses that I frequent. Employees are now counting back my change, into my hand!! Usually they just stuff the wad of bills and coins, then I gotta stop and check what I got back.

It is refreshing and I was not expecting or ready for it. I certainly do appreciate it though.

You should see their faces when you try to pay with a $2 bill!

A friend of mine did that, and the cashier lady didn't believe it was real.  She called the manager over, and HE didn't believe it was real!  Neither one of them had ever seen a $2 bill, they thought it was fake.  They were about to call the cops and have him arrested when somebody came forward and confirmed that yes, there was such a thing.

I have several $2 bills.  For some reason, I had the wherewithall to hold onto them, because I knew the knuckleheads would be spending them left and right when they came out (the novelty of it all, y'know), and I just had a feeling that they would eventually become difficult to get ahold of.

Seems I was right again.  I'm SO sick of being right all the time.

Hang on  to them, good to fuk with the idiots. I love paying with a $20. Register says the change. Then come up with the penny, nickel whatever AFTER they ring up. Then they are lost, call a manager who is also lost. So fun!

Or deeper. Just love fuking with left, millennium, snowflake liberals. It's as good as when I lived in WA 18 years (79-97) and used to go to Seattle waterfront. LOTS bums. If you happened to make eye contact on a sidewalk you could see their gears trying to turn thru the sludge and KNEW they were going to try and bum money. Soon as the gears were turning (over a minute easy) I would go "got a quata?" Oh shit, should see them spin, they don't know what to say but they mad!!!!!. Then yeah I'd give them a couple bucks. One bum was famous, had a dog held a cup for $$$, looked like patch, McKenzie or something. He dies, made front page.

Off the subject need a good read. "Skid Road" It's not about bums it's about a road down to Puget sound they "skidded logs down" Seatle is north/south roads mostly. Skid row not, "Yessler Way" think it was. Seattle has underground lots awesome stuff. Now a days? Nah, I don't go anywhere. Too hard a time dealing with idots, libs, milenials, flakes etc. Not worth it. I can mail order or locally buy most what I need. Afraid of the fuks? No way. Want to avoid conflict? Yes.

That is terrorists goal and while left won't admit,,, they pretty much did it.

UAE labeled CAIR a terrorist org and one other org too. Isn't it about time we label a few as terrorists too? Antifa comes to mind.

RE: Common core and "education"

Even Bill Gates has admitted Common Core was a mistake...

For very few people common core made sense and probably made math easier for those individuals...as a whole it took a simple calculation and made it tedious...
