More clinton news network fake news.

You have all heard about it, read it on your "own" trusted source.

CNN claims "we printed a story based on false and inaccurate statements" .. "YET WE STAND BY THE STORY"

Wapo and Times reprinted and corrected the FAKE NEWS, CNN won't. Maybe why both Nickelodeon and Ancient Aliens have higher ratings??

Personally I trust NO left wing media reporting and they DO NOT FACT CHECK. Even when found wrong which is 95% of the time with CNN they still only bash the right, Trump and the truth.

CNN Refuses to Retract Trump Tower Story Despite Sources Backtracking

ratings-fake-news-400.png

CNN thought it had President Trump caught in a potentially impeachable offense lying about prior knowledge of the infamous Trump Tower meeting during the 2016 presidential campaign.

But its source has proven unreliable.

Their source was Lanny Davis, attorney for Michael Cohen, the former Trump private attorney who pleaded guilty last week to charges unrelated to Trump or the campaign. Davis said Cohen told him he witnessed the conversation between Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr., in which Trump Jr. told his father about the meeting, in which a Russian attorney had promised dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Davis since admitted Cohen did not make such a claim and that he is unsure whether the president knew about the meeting beforehand.

Last week, Davis told CNNs Anderson Cooper that Cohen does not have any information that Trump knew about the meeting in advance.

The reporting of the story got mixed up in the course of a criminal investigation, Davis said. We were not the source of the story.

But Davis has since said he was a source on the story to CNN and other news outlets. Further, the Washington Post and New York Post have outed him as confirming their reporting off the record.

Davis said he did not lie, he unintentionally misspoke and made a mistake.

Im glad to take ownership of the mistake. Now Im taking the heat, and its justified.

But another aspect of the story suggests he should not be taking the heat alone.

In the CNN piece, written by Jim Sciutto, Marshall Coleman and Watergate legend Carl Bernstein, CNN used Davis as a background source to confirm the story. The story also quoted him in the piece saying he had no comment which suggests CNN misled about whether Davis commented for the story.

But CNN has not retracted or corrected the story in any way, according to Newsweek.

We stand by our story and are confident in our reporting of it, the network told BuzzFeed.

CNNs defense appears to be that they were only reporting on the claims of their sources and not the underlying truth of those claims, the Daily Caller wrote. However, CNN has refused to update the story with any of Davis recent statements so that readers can judge whether or not the claims hold water.

CNN also did not write any separate headlines about Davis admitting Cohen had no information about when Trump knew of the meeting with the Russians, raising even further questions about transparency.

The Hills Joe Concha tweeted: Very difficult to see how CNN can continue to stand by its July 27 Michael Cohen/Trump Tower story given its own formerly anonymous source is now openly admitting to lying about it on the network. Retraction seems to be the only recourse here.

The day after the story broke, CNN asked Bernstein how he got the story.

Well, I talked to sources, he said. As did Jim Sciutto. It became very apparent the former attorney to the president of the United States was going around and telling people that the famous Trump Tower meeting, which indeed was convened for the purpose of collusion. Which is to say, it was convened by Don Jr., to accept information from the Russians about dirt on Hillary Clinton that, indeed, Cohen was saying that Donald Trump, candidate for president of the United States at the time, had authorized the go-ahead for the meeting to take place with his son.

What has become clear is that if Sciutto and Bernstein indeed had sources other than Cohen, they need to explain who and how. Because right now it looks as if CNN was fed information by a lawyer, ran it without checking and refuses to back off because a veteran reporters reputation could be tarnished.

Interesting you expect CNN to name all of their sources, but you frequently post things from right wing media that mention "sources" without naming them.

It's possible (highly likely) that CNN has other sources to back up their claim anyway, which would explain why they don't retract the story. Multiple independent source confirmation is a standard practice among real media outlets.

Perhaps a website that has an entire tab dedicated to Benghazi, shouldn't be telling CNN how to do their job?

If CNN runs an incorrect story about someone, there are defamation, libel, and slander laws that can be pursued by the victim in the courts. CNN is big enough to be sued, and they know it, which is why they and all of the other mainstream media companies are very careful about what they publish.

Trump has a team of full time lawyers on retainer, yet he is not suing CNN to my knowledge? There must be a reason.

CNN Hits Back At President Trump After He Attacks Its Reporters

 Andy McDonald,HuffPost 10 hours ago

President Trumps favorite news outlet to hate did not back down from the commander-in-tweets recent attack on its reporting.

He tweeted Wednesday that CNN is being caught in a major lie over a story purporting that he knew about the infamous 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Trump campaign officials and a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer. The president went on to trash legendary journalist Carl Bernstein, one of three reporters responsible for the story; Jim Sciutto and Marshall Cohen also reported.

CNN, via its PR Twitter account, jumped to the reporters defense, saying, CNN does not lie. We report the news. And we report when people in power tell lies. CNN stands by our reporting and our reporters. There may be many fools in this story but @carlbernstein is not one of them.

Trump was referring to a story on his former lawyer Michael Cohens claim that the president had prior knowledge of the meeting.

Cohens lawyer Lanny Davis has admitted to being one of the sources for the story but wavered in subsequent interviews on what he knows. Regardless, CNN has made it clear the story was confirmed through multiple sources.

CNN did not report whether Trump knew about the meeting before it happened only that Cohen was making that claim while hoping for a deal from prosecutors, Sciutto and Bernstein clarified in a story on Tuesday.

Were sure the president will accept that and move on.

There must be a reason....

I'd say the reason is to keep the population busy wondering what the next tweet may be, rather than the other questionable activities going on abroad...

Why is CNN avoiding the truth about Lanny Davis lies?

Last Thursday, we asked how long it would take before Lanny Davis again changed his story about what his client, Michael Cohen, knows about President Trump. It turned out to be four days.

Meanwhile, CNN is standing by a story that relied in part on claims that Davis now says he never shouldve made.

It all started with last months bombshell CNN report that Cohen, Trumps former personal attorney, was claiming his then-boss knew in advance of the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between campaign officials and a Russian operative.

The CNN story said outright that Davis had declined comment, implying that he wasnt a source even though Davis now says he was, and CNN admits it. That same night, Davis confirmed the story anonymously to this newspaper and to The Washington Post.

Last week, however, Davis publicly stated that Cohen knew no such thing, and had never said otherwise. He then fessed up to his anonymous claims to the New York and Washington papers, while still insisting he wasnt a source for the CNN report.

It was only this week that he admitted he actually was a CNN source. His excuse to Buzzfeed: He made a mistake and unintentionally misspoke. (Three times?)

CNN is standing by the story because it says it has at least one other source for it, and because it suspects Davis changed his story only because Cohen could face perjury charges, since he testified under oath to a Senate committee that he had no advance knowledge of the Trump Tower sitdown.

The network offers no justification for its own deception of reporting that Davis hadnt commented when he actually had, though anonymously.

Davis, meanwhile, has also retracted at least two other claims about what Cohen knows about Trump. Maybe all those years as a Clinton spokesman just leave him unable to tell the truth, but whats CNNs excuse?

Leaving this specific situation out for a bit and addressing the issue more generally... If someone lies to a media outlet, and said media outlet publishes what the person said. Who is at fault?

In my opinion, If the Media outlet claims it to be the truth based soley on that person's testimony and they are wrong, they should issue a correction/apology.

If the media outlet reports that so and so said something, but takes no position as to its validity, they should follow up with new info as it becomes available, and no apology would be necessary (from the media outlet anyway).

It would be extremely unlikely that something would be adopted as the official position of any mainstream media outlet based on an interview with one person alone.

In this case, it would seem CNN has more than just Lanny Davis as a source for the story. If Trump wants to sue CNN for defamation, the court system is at his disposal... Of course many more details would become public if he did, and there must be a reason he doesn't want any more details to become public.

EXACTLY. Times and wapo did correct the fake story. CNN won't.

So you're so fuking smart who is the secret source we don't know of? Lanny says it is false.

Lanny has been a bit flakey lately, and he wouldn't necesarily know everything CNN does.

Often times sources wish to stay anonymous (like if they happen to work in the White House), and often times some media outlets will find more sources than others. Perhaps CNN found another credible source that Wapo and Times didn't, and that would explain why they won't reveal the identity unless sued.

I would suggest Trump sue to find out, though the effect may not benefit Trump, and his lawyers know it.

OK. We don't know the whole story. We'll just have to wait and see. I heard $100mil suit, we'll see I guess. With ratings below Nickelodeon and Ancient Aliens they better have a good source or they are done for.
