Healthcare

Democrats...Healthcare is a right, therefore the government should provide it (tax payer funded)

Republicans...Okay Guns are a right, therefore the government should provide them (tax payer funded)

Now you see how stupid the argument is:  the government should provide something because it is a right...

I can see cost savings with a single payer plan leaving the actual medical services in the free market...

but there are TWO MAJOR concerns with who has ultimate authority to your healthcare decisions and life style decisions under a single payer model...

Can the government forbid you to drink alcohol, drink soda, what about smoking?  nope can't own a gun because of the medical cost associated to accidents?

or any number of things that the government should not control...

If single payer means giving up all our freedoms then it will never fly...and that is a very legitimate concern...

Try the VA. I'm a veteran but haven't used them in 7-8 years. They force all kinds of things on vets. Anti depressants like candy, which I refused then I was forced to see a shrinker because I refused what they told me to take! Not kidding, the VA sells small totes and you will see vets leaving with these totes full of VA prescriptions.

Why do they always ask me if I have guns? Not their business.

Force you to take injections which I also refuse, flu, pneumonia, tetnus, screw their injections.

Lab with pee and blood every time. Oops a spot of MJ in you? Lose your VA benefits till you clean up.

Persons want single payer? try VA system or listen to some vets.

Had a vet friend, Nam, black ops. PTSD to the max. They would give him a form of LSD as one of his meds.

The VA is far worse as the service are in a universal healthcare model not a free market model...

single payer only removes the need for primary insurance...

eliminating the for profit middle man between you and your service provider...

but I get what you are saying about the immunizations and annual vaccines, ect...

Worse is an understatement for sure!

Eliminate the middle man, yes good idea.

I do believe there is a better way but not sure our 535 can figure it out without screwing it up even worse. Not much faith in Govt run anything.

Yay, we agree on something!

but there are TWO MAJOR concerns with who has ultimate authority to your healthcare decisions and life style decisions under a single payer model...

We will set up Sarah Palin style "death panels" comprised of freely elected "death panelists" for the coverage decisions, lifestyle decisions are still up to the individual, and may weigh on "death panel" coverage decisions.

Can the government forbid you to drink alcohol, drink soda, what about smoking?  nope can't own a gun because of the medical cost associated to accidents?

no, but the government can levy taxes on certain things to give people a financial incentive to not do certain things.

See, not so complicated after all! Now let's implement this.

Then NO it will not fly...

If it turns anything over to the government beside the responsibility to PAY the bill the answer is NO...

Michigan just recently got a Democratic Governor and already the following two things have happened -

1st - Gretchen has proposed a near .50 cent gas tax increase to fix the roads that we already pay a large tax per gallon to maintain.

2nd - They are ending the insurance program the wife and I were on and mandating that recipients prove they are working on a monthly basis or they get dropped - this only targets stay at home moms and the very poor. Not only that they are requiring people to get checkups to maintain coverage! Basically forcing you to visit a Dr. for a health assessment or you will get dropped!

I received this letter from the Michigan Department of State dated March 1st 2019 and the funny thing is within that same bundle of mail they also had another company by the name of Wolverine Solutions Group from Austin Texas telling me that my healthcare provider has been hacked and exposed members health information! You can't even make this stuff up and I plan on posting a separate thread with actual copies of these letters!

So in other words, they want me to go to the doctor so that the criminals have something to hack in the next breech, because I have never once used the insurance myself and only carried it so that I wouldn't be fined for not having it.

Nothing funny here...

I agree, you're being screwed...

This is a dictatorship method of assessment...Forced to have some insurance to avoid a fine, then the company is "hacked" & your personal details are "sold to the highest bidder", & then you're forced to have a medical, so as to determine future ailments, & whether you'll be suitable for future coverage...

This is what they did to everyone in Japan after it was nuked in 2011. It also stops you being able to sue the Nuke Industry. And worst-of-all, you'll be getting the wrong drugs & treatment for your ailments if / when they arrive.

I'd pay the fine SELLC to be honest, because you're being forced to pay your own way for a Government investigation into how irradiated you've become, so that they can determine where you fit in their selective box...This means that they avoid being sued for negligance, insurance companies still make a profit, & you get the wrong medication & treatment...

I'd say you folks got nuked pretty bad...

Some people smoke and drink until they are 100+ years old PowerStroker... Lifestyle decisions just sounds like an easy way for someone who does not smoke or drink to get preferential treatment. Playing it safe is a good strategy for most everything but even paying it safe 100% of the time does not mean you're controlling anything but yourself and lot of people can't even do that.

I agree with Nuffan on this one, any excuse for a person to pass the buck or fall back on some law will only serve to diminish the care people get.

I still feel that any insurance not deemed fit for Congress is not fit for the people who put Congress there to begin with! PERIOD!

I will probably get some insurance on my own Rastus, I don't mind so much if it were just me but I would really have a hard time living with myself if any of the family didn't have coverage and needed it.

I appreciate your understanding with the "take this insurance or pay a fine" situation I found myself in.  I really did appreciate the fact that I had better insurance than what the mandated Bronze package offered, and the fact that it was of no cost to me was also nice. But it would seem there are hidden cost such as my privacy and having to submit for screenings even when I don't have any issues. I am sure if they look hard enough they can find a reason to get me hooked on their medications - or make a case that not taking their medications would be a detriment to my health...

I was really planning on teasing you about everything being about radioactivity... but recently I have learned they are dumping radioactive waste at landfills less than a 10-20 miles from my house. There was an article about it and that was it, no mention of it further until the trucks were rolling down the road full of this waste... then no more about it again... I have to wonder myself but they are paying the right people enough money to allow this to happen, what I don't understand is if this stuff isn't that bad then why the hell didn't they just leave it in Ohio rather than trucking it all the way up here?

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/wayne/2018/06/22/radioactive-soil-ohio-wayne-county-landfill/725741002/

Maybe you can make heads or tails of this article above and give me your opinion. I figured it would be in bad taste to tease you about your nuke position while they are dumping the shyte in my back yard.

Wow mate...

Nuclear Waste storage is big $$$, & no doubt, a local politician has a much fatter wallet for allowing this to happen.

I'd want to find out who's monitoring the levels of radioactivity being dumped...( You know the old saying, " Give them an inch "...)...

There's NO safe limit to radiation exposure, regardless of what they say. It damages DNA period.

They claim the stuff is only a little above regular back-ground radiation levels, so I'd wonder why not leave it where it came from if it's so safe ?...Why contaminate another part-of-the-country ?...And what background radiation levels are they using exactly ?...Are they pre-Fukushima levels or after ?...

We have to remember that the EPA raised the safe level of nuclear fall-out in drinking water by over 200-times, so no doubt their numbers can & will be easily manipulated to their advantage.

Take your Calcium & Magnesium tablets every day !!!

I did read the other day too, that in the 1960's a Nuke plant close to Detroit had a partial melt-down, & that if it went fully blown, would have left all of Detroit, Michigan, & the Great Lakes uninhabitable...But I say enough already about everyday events happening, yet alone digging-up stories from the past, so I didn't post after reading about it. ( What would be the point )?..

Yes, someone made a lot of money...And they'll likely turn it into a golf-course or something too !
