Is CarShield as crazy as Ice T selling insurance?

Depends who you ask... I am sure all the Law and Order fans who watch him on TV or like his rap music will no doubt be influenced to give it a try.

But what is CarShield? Is it any good? How much does it cost? What is the fine print?

Glad you asked, because I was wondering the same thing myself! So I went on over to https://carshield.com to see what I could find.

Shockingly, I did not find much in the ways of answers for any of these questions. The fine print, pricing struture and other important details are not posted without entering your vehicles information along with your own!

They have a section that says "Sample Policies" but this appears to just show the many tiers of coverage they offer, which are Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Aluminum and motorcycle and ATV.

But no "sample" prices! No advertiesed set vehicle age or limits that I can see either, which I would imagine all factor into price. They claim that Diamond is most like your typical dealership warranty.

At this point in the post I got even more curious and figured I'd get a quote on my 1996 Corvette with just under 60k miles. Upon trying to enter the information it would seem the cut off for model age is 1995 at this time, I'd imagine this would change to 1996 next year and the same each and every year thereafter but this is just a theory as perhaps they just want vehicles that comply with OBDII mandates which started in 1996.

They claim they are going to call me with a quote within 24 hours, so since this is a pending "review" I'll be moving the thread to the V8 Cafe until we hear back with the facts.

While we're waiting for a responce I should mention to the new members or people just visiting that I am an auto mechanic.

At the time of this writing the company does not accept CarShield, but this is only because we do not extend credit and services must be paid for prior to the vehicle being released.

As a shop owner I am curious if CarShield in any way affords them the protection of an express mechanics lien if someone does not pay their premiums. This would mean you would be in essence putting your vehicle up for collateral should you ever not pay your premiums. Like I said the fine print is nowhere to be found and that is why I am doing some research and actually seeking out a quote because I'll be honest, the commericals are somewhat annoying and we have recently turned down a few CarShield jobs because we do not accpet or even know anything about them... yet here they are, selling Automobile Repair Insurance like it's accepted everywhere.

I'll be very interested in hearing of their pricing struture for such an old vehicle.

I have read in other places that their basic plans start at $120 per month with a required two year term. No word on how that is paid, if your vehicle is collateral or if it's monthly installments based off credit where they get the full amount up front and some finance company bills you in installments. But this is just what I have read from others on a google search.

So now we wait.

I deal with a lot of sleazy aftermarket extended warranties, I'm sure this one is at least as sleazy as the rest.

LOL !!! I agree, & would be very cautious...

It all seems fine until the day comes to make-a-claim...And then appears that fine-print that was somehow overlooked...

That said, competition is just that, & may help keep prices down whilst offering decent service...

Always remember that your insurance policy is all about legal representation in a civil court, that you never appear in. Getting a little $$$ back is only a bonus.

I have heard nothing back from Car-Shield...

Not a single email or phone call!

It's like I submitted my information to a data farm! Not even an automated reply that my request was received!

Given this experience I would NEVER accept Car-Shield in my garage, and I would really be careful with this company because who knows what kind of liabilities and obligations you could get yourself into with them.

If they treat a new customer like this, imagine how they will treat you after giving them money!

This concludes my review of Car-Shield...

In other words Car-Shield is just as shady as the rapper ICE-T...

Feel free to add your own strories.

LOL !!!

I don't disagree with you, but it's only been a little-under 2-weeks....

Maybe they were swamped with calls & messages that have over-burdened the AI processors !

I doubt that Rastus... the commercials are still rolling all day every day...

It's a shame too because I was really interested in getting into the particulars of the contracts... it would seem to me since you have to purchase the policy for a minimum of two years that even if you did have a large repair bill early on that it's probably set up to where they just pay out the maximum of the policy, and you'll have to keep paying even though you are maxed out on your cap. Also curious to see if people are pledging their vehicles as collateral for the payments.... in other words, if you don't pay will they come repo your car and sell it off to make your paymets? Since they do not provide these details it's very sketchy at best and I sure as heck am not going to trust a company that takes over TWO WEEKS to even acknowledge receipt of my request for an estimate!

No doubt these types of companies keep the secretaries at the dealerships busy! They probably have to call daily and beg for their money! They might even send out PowerStroker to meet with the insurance companies CEO for breakfast! LOL
