General living expenses via private &/or gov't interests are always an unknown, since they bill you...eg, Electricity, Water, Land rates, Insurances etc etc...However, I always plan for these, & consider them paid-in-advance, & don't have to get into debt, or see a bank to pay for these fees...
I have no mortgage, & never had one. I paid for my little apartment in cash via bank-cheque, since I was earning good income as an engineer at sea.
My recent cars & bikes have all been paid for with cash out-of-my-wallet.
The last debt via bank-loan I had was in the 1990's for my RF-900R, which was paid-off-in-full in about 2-years, well before 2000. The bike was a 1996 model, & I only borrowed around 10-K. This is only $100:00 a week to pay back over a 2 x year period.
If I had regular work down here, the wages for my qualification are around 220-K per year now-days, but the work is irregular, & the last offer I got only ensured 2-3 swings at 6-weeks each. This means I would have been paid for 36-weeks in total, as you're still paid whilst on leave, to save on lump-sum-tax payment etc etc.
My little apartment apparently has tripled in value since I moved in, ( according to value estimates as delivered in my mailbox by greedy real-estate agents, who want my place to sell lol ) & I have a reasonable super-annuation that grows around 8-10-K per year, without me even adding to it. This I can't touch however until I reach retirement age, in another 15-years or so. And since I can't touch it, & the gov't uses this money for its own investment purposes such as nuclear submarines, that we don't want or need, I hold little faith in it being around when it's time to cough-up...The gov't here have let people down many times re super-annuation, but none-the-less, over 150-K is in my name, & I'm entitled to it apparently sometime in the future lol !
As you can see, I have no debt, & don't intend to be in any...Mom & Dad are still alive & well, fast approaching 80, & no hand-me-downs from them, & I don't expect or want any either.
It's very important to remember that I've never married or had any children, since I always wanted to have some security before I took those steps, like steady regular work & a future to look forward too...All I saw in my time growing-up in the work-force was less & less workers rights, fewer jobs, broken gov't promises, & a great many people suffering because of being in debt & having to live through the circumstances mentioned. And I can count the number of people I know that have remained married all their lives on one hand, & that's my mom & dad, & brother & sister...
That said, I'm honoured to be participating with the ET's & the change in the new world to come. Very rewarding & extremely satisfying to be able to help good people where needed, regardless of where they're from LOL ! Hopefully everyone here will be participating in some way too, but change is slow, & this new "awareness" is not for everybody, though it is everyone's to embrace & enjoy !

I know the weather has taken a turn for the worse here as it's pretty cold most days... not as cold as it will be the next few months -- but cold enough to where all the cars are put up for the winter.

I'm glad that you understand that I'm not lazy, & realize it's the gov't & likely the nuke industry via say Rio Tinto that stop me from working. They know everything about everyone, but they get really pissed-off once you've made regular contact with our Star Family, since you not only know the truth, but they have no hold on you any longer. R2. No vast fortune here...I live in relative poverty to be honest, but to me, that's better than having debt...I was never one to chase money, I just wanted a steady job that never came.

I won't speak for PowerStroker, but the cost of parts for his 460-rebuild will mean he'll have to dig-deep, but not deep enough for a loan per-se...And I figure he could possibly have it done for maybe 1.5-2 K USD...And that's with good bits & pieces, but he may choose regular items, get it running well, & sell-it-off. If I had it, I'd do the work & fit the cam + roller-rockers, knowing that the beast would see an easy 150,000+ miles without issue or complaint, at least from the engine.
