2006 Mercedes-Benz W126 Christmas Thread

Well seems every year you see a few people with them. Usually its a luxury barge or a red neck pick up. This year I think I too will give it a whirl.

Anyone ever made one? I figure I will need a few strands of them 9 volt battery Christmas lights, a sturdy wreath and some chicken wire.

Perhaps a miniature Christmas tree to slide over the hood star or a giant red glowing bulb. I dont know why but for some reason I have always wanted to sport one over the snowy holidays.

Seems like it was Nov 1st yesterday and now thanksgiving has come and gone! Need to find a way to slow time down.

Here are some w126 X-mas photos for everyone. Please feel free to post some of your own!

Wishing Everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Well here is the 2007 X-mas tree photo. Just look how easy an entire tree fits in the back of a Mercedes!

Its just not Christmas without a ride out to the Christmas tree farm in the Mercedes.

She has been great, however she will be going down after the new year for repairs. I think its high time to replace the front end, fix the sun-roof and finally get that fresh coat of paint I have been promising her.

Got a nice little winter beater Black/Black 560 I am working to finish up before then. Most of all my Smoke Silver baby is about as rust free as they come, and I dont want to risk her when the snow gets bad in January. I will roll her thru the holidays, but I know what my New Years resolution is going to be already!

Looking back at all the years, and all the memories and good times I have had in this car I am truly Thankful this thanksgiving that I have had the opportunity to enjoy such a fine automobile. (Tear jerker moment, wipes tear from eye)

It has now become a tradition, and as such I had to add some new Christmas tree ornaments to this thread. While the SS Baby is a 560, I had some 420 badges lying around close at hand.

Enjoy my brethren Benzoholics!

Stoma is jealous as hell!

Ask around how much it cost to cut your own tree. I know your mom purchased them painted tree's in the Wal-Mart parking lot, but dont take it out on us.

It must make you sick that the very parts that keep you from driving your Mercedes, hang on a tree as an ornament!

Get a grip on yourself boy. You know your BS post always get deleted in the W126 forum, so why even bother?

Christmas tree mission 2010

Well the ride out to the tree farm this year was absolutely wonderful. With all the new front end work the ride was as smooth as glass. Although the ride back was somewhat stressful given the fact that a seal on the recently installed transmission gave out, likely because it had sat so long and dry rotted. Perhaps it was the 100mph pulls or the off roading thru the tree farm but a quick stop at Meijers to get some Lucas trans treatment ensured the problem subsided for a safe and un-impeeded ride home with the goods.

I honestly think this Mercedes is alive, sort of like the Mercedes version of Herbe. Despite the fact she was bleeding slightly she did not fail us and got us and the tree home safely.

In comparison this tree seems much smaller than the one year, however one year the tree farms tractor hay ride was broke down and we had to stuff an un-bailed tree in the trunk to bring it to the office for payment and bailing. This year they had the hay ride powered by two clydesdales, which I imagine is much more reliable. All things considering it seems out favorite Christmas tree farm is starting to thin out. I myself am a Blue Spruce kind of guy, and the selection just does not seem to be the same as days of old. None the less a tradition is a tradition, and thus we will keep going even if it means bringing home a Charlie Brown tree.

While the tree's there seem to be getting smaller, the saws they hand out are getting much sharper, as cutting the tree was a breeze.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas 2010 and a Happy and Prosperous 2011 New Year!

Christmas Tree Mission 2011,

We were kind of late getting into the holiday spirit this year, and given the current Administration it's no wonder. But politics aside the Benz had no problems bringing home the tree this year, and while we did not cut ours down this year I elected to go with a Scotch Pine rather than the traditional Blue Spruce. It also cost me 80% less, as buying a tree this late in the season comes with huge discounts.

Wishing everyone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a happy new year!

Thanks for reminding me Rastus! I almost forgot!

Guess I spent so much time building the kids Christmas gift this year I almost forgot!

This year we went to the same area (almost an hour away), but we were able to buy from family who started their own tree farm in the area! Much better selection of tree's too! I think this is one of the best we have gotten. The tree shown in this photo was grown for 9 years.

Well, this is the first time in a long time that I had to use another vehicle to get our Christmas tree, rather than ole' Goldilocks.

This year I needed to pick up a cord of Hickory with my Tree, and instead of getting the usual Blue Spruce, the woman insisted on a Douglas Fur. Had to shave nearly 4 foot off the tree to even get it into the house. lol

I think I am going to go pull the hood star off my 560 and hang it on the tree, in honor of the good ole' days when about the only thing we had going for us was our Mercedes. The weather has taken a brutal turn for the worse, and to be honest the hickory will come in handy during the cold months! Got a great deal on a whole truck bed full out in the country, as they charge an arm and a leg around here.

Merry Christmas everyone!

This is the first year we did not get a tree as the kid blew up the truck and the Mercedes is still awaiting it's new transmission. It worked out for the best as we had family in town and for the first time in 18 years we are visiting other people on Christmas now that the kids are almost all grown up. Looking back it was good times in the ole' W126 and maybe more to come - who knows.

Having not been able to cut our own tree down, we decided against artificial or them cheap, scrawny - dead and overpriced painted trees at the store... Keeping in Mercedes tradition we elected for "The best or nothing!", which in this case was nothing but on the bright side we don't have to worry about taking a tree down this year. We still did our outdoor lights and all the other decor, just no tree this year... Things are changing around here now that the kids are growing up, and it's not because I am changing them - everything just seems to be changing all around me - try as I may to keep it the same.

Merry Christmas 2019!

Merry Christmas 2023 to the Mercedes Fam!

We made it another year!

Was really missing driving Goldilocks this year. Lot of good memories in that car! I still have her, along with enough parts and another donor of the same lineage. As I get caught up over here, with the kids all grown and one out of the house and the other in college -- I'm hoping some time can be spent bringing my beloved 560 back to daily road service condition. I don't have any dreams of concourse level show quality, but I for sure would like to roate the 560 into the rotation of the other classics I currently have. Now that I have a work truck, the Mercedes is no longer the company daily. I've done so many work related things with Goldilocks the first five years of ownership I could never really enjoy the car. But while I'm not looking for concourse level quality in my 560SEL, I do think she is worth a paint job and at least being standing tall as a vehicle you could not only enjoy a few times a month, but also look good doing it! So that means, no more towing vehicles -- no more parts runs with transmissions in the trunk, no more loaning it out -- and for sure no more using it to test and sell old parts removed from donors!

Merry Christmas!

560SEC with euro-logs is what you need now. Or 560SL with Euro logs.

Retire Goldilox, there's no need to drive around with all those empty seats.

I'd for sure take a nice SL or SEC 560, even a crappy one at the right price!

But for me, it's this 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL, and with prices of even rough shape SL and SEC's today, I'm happy with old Goldilocks! Have you seen what they been asking for them? The days of picking up even distressed SEL's for $500-$1,000 are OVER!

I don't think I need to be buying another Mercedes unless it's much-much newer. The kid almost bought an AMG E class before getting his Corvette -- but it was too old for a warranty and cost even more than the Corvette! I told him if it wasn't an S class, it would be like buying a Mustang with a V6... he'd get no respect! LOL, it was a sharp car though, low miles -- but the risk of no warranty for him as a daily driver at almost $50k was just not a good idea. Yes he works for Mercedes, but as you know -- the newer the car the more expensive the parts!

Anyway, back to the 1991 560 SEL... if you remember I have brand new guides and top end gaskets installed. I also have fresh trans fluid, filter and gasket installed... probably not even a mile on the oil. All I have to do is fix the fuel and SLS lines and it would be safe enough to drive. Fires right up too! Although I should probably put a trickle on the battery before the temps really dip so it doesn't flatline and go bad. I think it might still be under warranty... but it's got to be getting close. Maybe I better check and see when the free replacement period ends -- to be honest it's been so long it might already have passed! LOL
