To obtain a search warrant from a federal judge, they would have to prove probable cause, and list specific things they are looking for. For all of the Bush & Cheney war crimes, they probably didn't violate the Presidential Records Act, I have a feeling that's what this is about.

Perhaps some of the classified ET stuff found its way to Mar-A-Largo (lol), & that's what the FBI wish to recover ???...Remember that the Don also unexpectedly visited the Walter Reed Medical facility at least twice during his term, & certainly, it is known that deceased ET's remain there on ice...

Desert Storm? I thought you were talking about George W... Yes, George Sr. had a successful campaign to liberate Kuwait from Iraq in the early 90s, and that war was legit. I was talking about when his son used falsified intelligence about Saddam having weapons of mass destruction, and used that to convince Congress to authorize a 2nd Iraq war based on the false premise that Saddam had something to do with 911. Lying to Congress is a crime. And then when there were no weapons of mass destruction, the goal apparently became to "liberate Iraq" to make Americans feel better about the lives and treasure we spent there. We should have been focused on Bin Laden that whole time who wasn't even in Iraq. Luckily Obama moved to focus back to where it belonged and got the job done.

If anything, destroying the Saddam's Suni government and replacing it whith a Shia government only served to make the Shia government of Iran stronger by eliminating their biggest regional adversary.

The FBI pulled another 12 boxes of government documents out of Trump's place. Whether they were classified or not, it is still stolen government property.

The notion that one would elect a president for no other reason than the entertainment value from watching them get "revenge" is an awful waste of our collective potential.

With regard to probable cause, the National Archives has been fully aware of the existence of documents that were never recived by them. When asking nicely didn't work they went to the Justice Department. I can't imagine better probable cause than that.

He had to power to declassify things when he was president. He never had the power to violate the Presidential Records Act, even when he was in office.

If you're a fan of Donald, then pray that when he was president he declassified everything they found yesterday. It was Donald Trump who personally increased the penalty for mishandling classified information. It would be a real shame if he now gets to face the aforementioned stiffer penalties he personally enacted.

I think more people, myself included, are worried about the precedent this sets. I recall when the Clinton's were accused of taking some dishes from the White House... they didn't raid their home to get them back. Same goes with the deleted emails and servers...

I'm sure MOST people will agree that some trumped up records charges are hardly worth tossing a former Presidents house for! I think a lot of people find this very disturbing! Absent some SERIOUS charges, I think the AG may get impeached... and going forward, other Presidents and administrations may just start using these raids on Democrat Presidents as well if an example isn't made out of the AG! I can assure you this isn't sitting well with ANY ex-President, regardless of political affiliation!

Absent some serious charges that go beyond what you suspect, I can't see this ending well for AG Garland. Even former AG Bill Barr wouldn't have pulled a stunt like this! And that's saying a lot!

You have to know deep down PowerStroker, that absent some SERIOUS crimes - this is not good for the Democrats! The problem Democrats have is the pattern they have set... from that BS Steele dossier, several failed impeachment attempts, and now this! All the while Twitter has banned an ex-President while providing cover for Hunter in the breaking laptop story... it's starting to look really-really bad!

I agree more details would be good. I find it unlikely that the AG and a federal judge would both sign off on this if it were just harmless unclassified documents though. Garland is probably professional enough to wait until after the midterms before announcing the findings. Time will tell I guess.

Pleading the 5th amendment 440 times was an almost coerced testimony for Trump given the fact his home had just been raided by the FBI...

This is why most professionals and higher up Judges don't mess around with Presidents, ex or otherwise... This is going to be messy!

Worst part is the longer the details are withheld, the more and more of a David vs. Goliath narrative will unfold... where Trump is David trying to fight off Goliath!

My understanding is the FBI wanted to keep this on the down low. That among the many documents that were stolen, was information about nuclear weapons. It was Trump who alerted the world to this raid, not DOJ. But because Trump let the cat out of the bag, the AG is petitioning to have the warrant unsealed so that we may see exactly what they were looking for. The only thing that might stop that is if Trump objects. Trump was also given a manifest for the items that were seized. He is free to release that information to us at his convenience. Already, right wing media is theorizing that the FBI planted evidence. Show us the manifest Donald, and let us know if anything on it wasn't actually in your possession, and do it now.

The failure of AG Garland to assuage the public and detail how this wasnt done for purely political reasons is gonna bite him on the arse. Already congressmen are stating that they will impeach and possibly indict for weaponizing the DOJ.

And Fraudci has announced his retirement, but that will NOT stop an investigation and consequences for trashing the economy and education for millions of people.

I couldn't really tell you what if anything Obama took, or didn't take... back then a President was beyond reproach and that was a good thing because some people questioned Obama's little all cash airplane payment in the dark of night to Iran. But this never before raid on an ex-Presidents house changes ALL of that precedent.

I don't deny that Democrats have done wonders in terms of opening up the credit markets for the small guys like me, BUT the fact still remains that Biden isn't touching this issue with a 100 foot pole and is denying any prior knowledge. That tells me that if the AG and FBI can't prove it's claims and make a conviction, then heads are going to roll... What did they expect to find in Mrs. Trump's closet anyway?

There is one other VERY questionable element to this whole situation... it's fair to say that Trump and Republicans pretty much threw cold water on now AG Merrik Garlands prospects of having a cushy lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court! I'm no lawyer, but that seems like motive, or at least a disqualifiable conflict of interest! It's also not very good optics that Trump was always picking on the FBI while in office, but again this was only because they been trying to make a case against him since the Steele dossier!

This was just a really bad idea if you ask me!

Biden beat Trump in 2020, he probably didn't need this! Since it's midterms, it's not even a reflection on congressional Republicans. People are uneasy, especially Trump voters who will also feel like they are being painted with the same brush as Trump should the Government he once ran convicts him of any crimes. I think the reason we have never prosecuted a President before is because no-body was ever that stupid or angry before... because I honestly believe there is no way to be President and not fracture an occasional law! For gawds sake PowerStroker, the President more or less has a license to kill! They are entrusted with the football!

What more does the DOJ or FBI need to prove. They asked for a warrant to search a place for some very specific things based on information received from the National Archives. And upon receiving said warrant, found exactly what they expected to find. Whether DOJ decides to bring charges or not, they found what they were after and our national security is better for it.

Like 12 more boxes of stolen documents, over 700 of which were classified. Some were even top secret compartmentalized which is only meant for specifically cleared people who need to know, and only to be viewed in a special secure government facility. Regardless of his political party, how does this not bother you? It's a crime to have these things, the warrant bore fruit, what more do you want?
